I’m so happy to be reporting to you from PRAGUE - Woohoo!! This is the city that kicked off my travel bug in 2012, and until this day, it's my absolute favorite city in the world!!! Join me in this video, where I show you what it’s like to travel to here on a tight budget (of $50 per day) vs. a luxury budget (of $500 per day).

You are hilarious, and I don't think I've ever seen you so tipsy in a video. You managed to get equally drunk on the cheap and expensive budgets. The clubs you went to remind me of one of the first videos I ever filmed of a rave in 2010 and the fuzziness caused by the bad lighting in your video adds to the old-looking effect. I have been a victim of the picture scam in the USA a few times, once in San Francisco and once after going down a water slide at a water park are two examples.
Hi, would you like to come to Zambia again I can take you to places where every Zambia fear to go and have the experience,it's called chibolya and that's where we find everything that is fake including something simple as cigarettes
Will you be adding more countries? 2 of the countries I want are not available :(
Can u go to one of British overseas territorys
The Honest Guide has a phenomenal page documenting travel to Prague, and also educates about the cities scammers.
Yep :)
Every city should have it´s own Honest Guide!
@@drewbinsky you should do a colab with them. I figure it would go well.
But this is new scam 😁😁😁😄😄😄
That stand with ham is also one of the most popular scams in Prague.
As a Czech person I can confirm that we don't smile much at strangers, but once we get in a conversation with them, we can be very nice and warm-hearted. 😊 Drew, this video is a genuine portrayal of the Czech nation. 👍
now explain this to my REALLY EXTRA extravert friend🤦♂️😂 He loves to talk to strangers and he hates Prague for cold people... Everytime I go for a walk with him I get embarrassed for him hahaha
Thank you!!!
@@procuberider7841 well, you must find right people! when they cant speak english, or they know just basic phrases, they are feeling uncomfortable, and don't have self-confidence to talk to a foreigner. So they choose to get away as fast as possible xd

I just left Prague yesterday. It was my first time there and I’m from Toronto, Canada. I’ve been all around north and South America, I’ve been to plenty of cities in Europe and I have to say, Prague is also now my favourite city in the world. I absolutely love it. I’m in Berlin now and will be in Amsterdam very soon! Thanks for influencing me to do all of this Drew! You’re the man.
So happy to hear this !!
Try Vienna, Budapest, Antwerp if you haven't
Try Ghana ( Accra, Obuasi and Kumasi )

As a Czech person I felt really bad while watching you eating Svíčková😆
Yeah
he also didnt eat very much of it
for some reason they think dumplings are bread so they touch it and eat it by hands - yuck!

You can not walk a loop around the city in an hour. Prague is 496 km² in total. :D You can walk across the center. Prague is actually massive but all the stuff you want to see is pretty centered.

Hence, i think she working with Resturant because they wouldn’t allow her to hustle in their premises
Exactly thank you:) that’s what I said too:)
She even let the other guy pay with card. Scammers don't have that usually
Maybe she gives a small portion of her earnings to the restaurant
Yeah, scam was a bit strong of a word.
If in India they would have demanded money as soon as the camera clicked, and if you refuse, then complain that their day is ruined because now the light is gone.
I worked in that restaurant and she is a different company. But our restaurant gets some money from her sales. But since they are scamming people and saying that they work in the restaurant, they're making the restaurant's reputation worse.
In 2015, my teenage children and I spent the summer in Berlin and we had our choice of cities for a side trip we could go to Vienna, Prague or Tallinn. I picked Vienna, and it was a total bust with my kids. I so wish we had gone to Prague but we will get there for sure. And you are still a young traveler, I am 60 and my husband is 63 and we still do hostels, concerts and pub crawls and anything else that looks fun... we might be the oldest people there, but who cares?
Vienna is my favorite city in the world and I've been to 107 countries.
Sounds amazing, keep going :)
This!!!! I love meeting older travelers. Such a unique and different perspective!!
@@Unknowngfyjoh I've been to Vienna for the first time in 2021 and I think it's very overrated, there is noise, cars everywhere, constructions everywhere, grey buildings from smog, not well maintained historical places (like everything is covered by asphalt instead of nice cobblestones and there are always some weird 90s structures around)....most of cities in Czech Republic look much better and much greener, you don't have to travel like 30 minutes to Danube islands when you want to see a tree in Prague, you have parks everywhere and not those artifical habsburk like parks like in Vienna, but real parks.
@@Unknowngfyjoh Vienna is actually a lovely city, we just went there at the wrong time - it was the middle of summer it was during a heat wave it was 105゚ there was nothing to do for the children since they were so museumed out after going through so many museums in Europe already...
8:05 You can actually make a loop around the city centre in 30 minutes but definitely not around the whole city, the whole Prague is a lot bigger than you probably think. It would take you several days to do that

*Prague is my favorite city to visit in Europe. I visited this gorgeous city in 2019 and I was amazed by everything. Words can't describe the happiness when you are there and time seems to go so fast. Also, Bratislava (capital of Slovakia) was also unbelievable beautiful and we had such a great time around the city.* 🤩
never ever come to prague again, we don't want people like you here that voluntarily get scammed, don't finish the meal in restaurant yet praise it, eat dumplings using hands and say that beer is cheaper that water. You are not welcome.
why bold?
As a slovak i can only say that bratislava is shit compared to prague

From 1:34 - I live about 200m from this pub. And yes, it's perfectly normal to have a pub downstairs from some appartments/flats :) By the way - you don't go to the bar to ask for beer here - you greet the waitress, then sit down. She will come to you.

Czechs outside Prague hate prague bcs it's overcrowded, expensive and too much noisy/big. But everywhere in our country you can find cities like this, but less crowded, cheaper and with locals. I personally go to Prague only to visit friends, or concerts or some ocasion activites, but I rather go somewhere else to make a trip. Really everybody, I know Prague is must have for you, but don't forget about the rest. the Czech trains will take you everywhere cheaply :)

I loved Prague, the 6 bridges from mission impossible and the church up the hill is cool, Mozart museums where awesome plus the vineyards and the carousel was cool

Glad you like it here! Seeing people from all across the globe appreciate my country is just heartwarming.
@@chaotix7275 A fantastic country
You have low standards
I love your channel, your enthusiasm for travelling, interesting places, cultures and people. And I'm very pleased with your warm relationship to Prague. :) There're just two things that bother me and those are exactly the same things I've seen in your previous video(s) about Prague: 1. Prague is definitely not as big as London or Paris, but you can't simply walk through the whole city in an hour like you've said on several occasions. That may apply for the city center, but that's it. And I'm not talking about suburbs here, I'm talking about regular districts where most Prague citizens live. 2. Prague and Czech Republic in general are the very synonym of Central Europe. Geographically, historically, culturally and economically. For almost a thousand years (= most part of their existence) they had been in the Western / Central European sphere of influence (Holy Roman Empire, Austrian Empire, Roman Catholic Church etc.). Yes, for four decades they were a part of the Eastern block, just like East Germany. Czechs are West Slavs on paper, but in reality their Slavic ancestry is genetically heavily mixed with Germanic tribes and some Celtic influences. What I'm trying to say is that they have their own unique Central European identity. Saying that they have "Western standards, but Eastern culture" is simply a nonsense. Btw, Prague itself is a mixture of Czech, German and Italian architecture.
Hi I am local guy and I have to confirm that Prague is NOT that small - east to wet by car it takes 32 Km !!!! and it contains from 5 basic circles:
1.) "touristic ghetto" - Old Town, Josefov (Jewish town), Malá Strana (Lesser Town/Small Side) , Hradčany (castle complex)
2.) circle around this: Vinohrady and Dejvice (historical middle and upper midle class area), and former historical working class areas - now middle and upper middle class area - huge development, huge gentrification = sky rocketing prices = city centre for locals - Smíchov, Vršovice, Karlín, Libeň, Vysočany, Letná, Holešovice
3.) First republic villas on the hills over this 1. and 2. areas - average prices area 4 milion EUR, but you can also find here the bigger ones
and many of them cost 40 milion EUR and for more..
4.) behind this areas is belt of high block of flats mostly from 70´ 80´and early 90´ whre live most of the Prague people - the hudreds of thousands people ver ygood connected by busses, trams and metro lines with the city centre
right behind the adminstrative border of prague is 5 th belt of very modern so called "satelte cities" - modern new age family houses and villas of middle class = residental areas simila rto belt "3" fast grown by any village around Prague (belt 3 was built between 1918 and 1938, belt 5 has been under construction since aroud 2000 untill today
belt 6 - towns gentrification of mostly working class towns up to 20/30 km from Prague by people working in Prague with good education, which can not touch any mortgage for buying an appartment in Prague - so they go for that much cheeper ones in those very close towns
@@milenacadova9636 Thanks for this, as a tourist all I know is numbers 1 and 2 on your list but I often wondered about those grim looking apartment complexes you can see from the City Centre and assumed that is where 'regular' Prague people live :)
Correct, Prague is west of Vienna I think.
I always wanted to visit Prague! It looks so beautiful😍
As someone who lives here thanks for your love for Prague and thanks for learning that "Ř". Your "Ř" is great!
That looked wonderful and fun! I am 1/2 Czech on my maternal side. Lithuanian on my Father's. Years ago when I was 40,after my father died and left me some inheritance thought about going to both the Czech republic and Lithuania, yet was afraid to go aloe. I wish all the RUclips and other internet stufff was available to guide me. I am so glad you studied there and that you love it there. I have an older Jewish friend who studied the language when it was under Communist rule. He speaks highly of the country and Prague.
Hey Drew, amazing vid as always :)
I'm curious, do you watch Bald and Bankrupt?
Fellow expat American living in beautiful Malostrana prague, last 18 years…. Ironically I run a small international tour company so am all over the world and never seem to get much of a chance to enjoy my adopted home :), but I can confirm pretty much every experience in this vid! Many “hidden gems” in this city that tourists rarely find. Good work!
You didn't get scammed.. you got lied to. Theres a difference. A scam means you were cheated out of something. You got two nice photos served up in a nice folder for an agreed upon sum of money.
19:16 so that was Solicitation instead & not a scam near a local business. They should ve reported😮
We were in Prague in 2002 and sat at that same spot. We were surprised that there was a 100% surcharge for sitting there compared to the menu prices. It was worth it. What a beautiful city. I also bought 2 small watercolors.
You inspire me to travelling man. I would have never even contemplated the middle east until I saw your videos!
Great video! Hope to visit Prague Soon.
That bread like thing in the cheap restaurant is indeed bread, but it is steamed instead of baking. It is delicious with any saucey meat. There is also a sweet version which is more like a bun with filling and then has vanilla poured over it. These are also popular in Slovakia. Greetings from Hungary!
We eat them too in Poland 🙏Yummy!
It reminds me of school food, but it was very delicious
I know it as Germknodel (or smth like this) and i saw it only in austria - i failed to fing it both in italy and munich (but i had a day or so in both cities). But yeah, its delicious, and also the versions i tried had poppy groung with sugar on top of them (and the sauce)
it is not bread but dumplings.
@@Iowen Yes, Germknödel is austrian. We have similar dumplings, but smaller.. Anyway, the common history of Czechs (and Slovaks) within the framework of the long existence of Austria-Hungary gave the Austrians and other nations of this empire the opportunity to get to know some of our traditional things..
We actually have dryers, but sometimes it´s no space in the small apartment.
I’ve spent a lot of time working in Prague and I’m actually going back this summer. This is the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen.
Dryers aren't for 'ultra rich', we just don't use them, they're not common in Europe, not just in the CZ. FYI:)

It has nothing on Budapest, in my opinion
Please don't come to Prague, I beg you
It is awful
@@jj-if6it Exactly! Budapest is superior
Agree, old Prague is an astonishingly beautiful city and is possilbe to visit on every budget. Just try to avoid the busiest times of the summer or it can get so over crowded. I just came back from Poland and have to say Krakow. although smaller, can hold a light to Prague and is also very reasonable on the wallet.
Prague is ugly
Indeed Prague is beautiful but overcrowded, overpriced and overrated. I love Budapest and Cracow better. The churches were closed and opened only for paid concerts. Beautiful castle but not much to see inside. Empty interiors filled with overwhelming crowds of people. My friend compared Prague to an old lady with to much make-up.
I toured Prague a while back , and I must also say, it's my favourite city aswell
As a fellow czech person. Im proud of prague this one time.

As a Czech, I appreciate your love for Prague 😊 Also if you have a chance, please visit next time also Brno, lovely city, with totaly different vibe 😁
I will be visiting Brno in a few days, what are 2 or 3 three things that I must see please?
1. leave, absolute hell and dont get me started on Ostrava i live 20 km away so i dont recommend visiting either@@magicalexanna
Drew, next time you’re in Prague, you should connect with Janek and Honza from the Honest Guides channel. You could have saved yourself from falling for the photo scam.
Cheers!
What is a photo scam ? Or when did it happen in the video?
Great video. I moved from the UK to Brno (2hours) from Prague 4 years ago and it changed my life for the good.
Those two scams in Prague were easily avoidable but as your budget was $500 it would make sense to go with the flow. The ham you can order just 100g of ham. The girl selling the photos was very tame when it comes to scamming. Again she gave you the option to buy, or not and I feel she wasn't 100% lying by saying that she works there.
I definitely agree that seeing the city (or any Czech city) on a budget is the best way to see and feel the city vibe as a local.
Love ya Drew!
I know this is expensive but it would be cool to see a series where drew spent the most money in a day, or on the most expensive food, only on like some of the high end places. Not EVERYWHERE. No matter what it’s great content.
I was on holiday with my friends In Prague, huge and great city 9/10

I'm really sorry, but somehow it doesn't suprise me :D
I was never pickpocketed and my life and I am born in Prague. But I see that many people have phone staring on you from back pocket and such things, when they walk like that, it's obvious that someone will steal that.
