One of the most underrated reasons to use CBX for a flight is that you avoid landing and having to go through customs when you land in another Mexican airport. I've flown from LAX to Mexico City and the wait time for customs was absolutely horrible. Guadalajara and Cancun were not fun either. When you fly internationally you have to go through customs once you land and depending on the size of the airport and the time you land, it could be a long wait time because there are multiple flights coming in. Also, the customs officers on the CBX Mexico and US sides are much nicer than the ones at the airports. I usually take 1am flights and cross in 15 minutes into the TJ airport and 10 minutes back to San Diego if you don't have bags to check in. I've only ever had two instances where it's taken an hour to cross and it was because we had bags to check in so they have to be weighed before entering the CBX and then checked in after customs and there were a lot of people so everything had a long line. The CBX ticket can be bought on their app or website alongside parking and shuttle services. CBX ticket prices depend on peak travel seasons. I've paid $10 for a CBX ticket during the low travel season. It's also cheaper if you buy it earlier rather than waiting to buy it the day of your flight. You can also buy it bundled with your flight by choosing the TJX airport instead of TIJ airport. It will be an option for you on the Volaris or Vivaaerobus (don't know about the other airlines) apps but it costs a few more dollars, usually. I always check the CBX app to see which is cheaper and buy accordingly. When you do that you only scan your boarding pass because the CBX ticket is bundled in. Also, you only have to pay to enter Mexico if you stay more than 7 days. The tourist tax is like 40 dollars but it depends on the peso. It was about 30 a year ago. You can fill out the FMM at home and print it to save you some time if you think you're going at a peak travel time. You can also pay the FMM tourist tax online prior to arriving. I've traveled to Mexico every 3 months for the past 3 years and I've tried every other way to travel to Mexico since I'm about 2 hours from the CBX but the most cost effective and efficient is the CBX so if it's an option for you because it's not far then I would do it. The shuttle services are very limited. There are other options if you live in LA, San Bernardino, Riverside, Perris, or other cities so check to see if there are buses that take you to the San Ysidro border and you can walk in to Mexico yourself if you're feeling brave (it's not scary but it might be for you) and take an Uber or taxi to the aiport or the bus I took to San Ysidro from Fontana (El Corre Caminos) takes you to the aiport but you change to a shuttle bus once you arrive at San Ysidro then another shuttle bus once you pass the border (you have to get off the shuttle and cross in walking but it's a small office for people crossing in a bus) and use another shuttle that's already finished their inspection with the Mexican officers and they take you to a taxi (van) that takes you the airport. OR you can Uber to the CBX once you arrive at the San Ysidro bus station which I've done recently because due to construction on the Mexican side wait time to cross INTO Mexico in a car was over two hours. There are so many options it just depends on what you want to spend and how much time you have to get to your flight.

@@marisol033 if you're referring to the CBX ticket and you bought on the app or the website then still no. They send it in an email as an attachment and you'll scan the QR code just like with your boarding pass. Both are needed before you can cross inside the "bridge"

    • @victoriael12

The main reason why I like using CBX is to avoid the long customs lines. Using CBX to fly into Mexico is considered flying domestically so you don’t have to deal with the long Mexican customs line furthermore coming back into the US and going through the CBX US customs line is a breeze as well. I just find the whole process more efficient.

Since I am from Texas I usually cross the border and use Monterrey airport for cheaper flights. The Tesla superchargers in Mexico (or at least the ones in my route) are still free. So I spend no money on charging from home to Monterrey and back. There’s only toll roads fee and we usually save $200~/person on flights.

I use a similar strategy. When flying to Cancun, I just cross the border and go to REX airport (45 min away) for a way cheaper flight.

CBX is fantastic. cheap and fast both when you are checking in, then you walk out at your destination. There is one big problem - transportation. Parking is expensive, there is no public transportation. Lyft and taxis are expensive. Best way is to have a friend deliver you and pick you up.

For a moment, I thought it was bus or shuttle service to bring you to airport. CBX is just a toll for you to cross the bridge on foot on your own and just simply another extended entrance of the airport which sits right by the border wall.

Thanks for the great video. Question; when I fly into San Diego, how to get get clear down to CBX from the San Diego Airport? An Uber is another $51! It's really starting to add up, and that's just one way! So, I would have to save at least $150 or more flying out of TJ to have it even make sense. Plus the general hassle of so many transfers from airport to Uber to CBX to TJ airport then to wherever I am going in Mexico. Then I must do the whole thing again to get back. Am I missing something here?

    • @MaxMilesPoints

No not missing anything it’s much easier if you live in San Diego or Southern California. Also Some people have to fly out of Tijuana because a lot of the smaller airports in Mexico are serviced out of Tijuana.
