Winston Churchill was a man whom I admired since I was in grade school in the 60s. I always enjoyed watching WWII historical footage, in which he was part. His speeches were inspiring and uplifting, and I am sure we're a great comfort to the British people of the time. I have read several books on Winston Churchill and grew to admire him even more. I have always loved British history, and Lord Mountbatten's speech in the video brought it all together..

Well then, perhaps vanity in a certain measure is not half as bad as people say, when it serves the right purpose at the right time. A shy and humble man, too, I daresay, is at times just the kind whom we need at our side, or even leading us, though not at others. Life and the world would be terrible if we all had the same propensities.

All this would have been unnecessary without the idiocy of 1914.
The British are also at fault for being unable to accept Germany‘s economic ascendancy under Bismarck.
The Kaiser was Queen Victoria‘s grandson, and never could imagine a war with England.
Still, Lord Mountbatten‘s beautiful English intonations speak of a certain greatness and resolve that Churchill exemplified in the dire situation of 1941.

Ah yes the gay lord. I always find it strange that people want to praise Sir Winston Churchill.
The claim that he played a major part in defeating Germany is slightly untrue.
It was the Russian Army who really defeated Germany. It was at a huge cost 21 million Russians dead.
Lest we forget Churchill and Roosevelt handed half of Europe to Russia after the defeat of Germany.
Churchill was of Empire and could not perceive the sun setting one last time on what he considered glorious days.
He was a racist as was Mountbatten they believed the British Empire was just and fair.
As it fell apart they became antiques from another age .
Does anyone now care what they had to say?
The truth is nobody cares about a war that was fought almost 100 years ago.

    • @MrJm323
      @MrJm323 Месяц назад

"It was the Russian Army who really defeated Germany."
No, they did not. Sorry, comrade!
If it wasn't for the Western Allies, the Germans and Russians would STILL be battling it out today!
For one thing, the Soviets contributed absolutely NOTHING to the strategic air bombing campaign which devastated German industry. For another, the Soviets were on the receiving end of enormous material aid given to it by the United States. For still another thing, President Roosevelt held the Western forces back so the Soviets could grab off more of Europe. Berlin's fall would have been far easier if the American and British forces would have been allowed to take it.
