Is that their prime? I have the Olympus 40-150mm f/2.8, which is very nice. It's as sharp as I've seen, which is saying a lot for a telephoto. You lose some on the long end when compared to the Leica 200, but the ability to pull back to 40mm is pretty handy. I have the 12-40mm 2.8 as well, so they work pretty nicely together. I just keep hearing about the Leica 200mm, and it makes me curious. I doubt it'd work with the OM tc I have though. I know Panasonic and Olympus have no reason to want to work together, but it would be nice if their lenses, etc. were more inter-compatible.
as I have stated in my comment - this lens (200 f/2.8 prime) is the best (to my knowledge and experience) for this kind of work, managed to get mine half price due to it being re-sold + hair being present inside the lens (never found it btw) = best buy ever for me. Happy to answer any more questions
Hi, thanks for the vid. Currently using the G9 for wildlife, and have the G9 II on pre-order. You have me confused a bit: on some video's it is mentioned 'shot on the G9'. Is the current G9, or the G9 II?
Thank you for your reveiw all that is needed to know was in their given the right amount of time. Looking forward to your lens review and outside of the camera new PD, examples improved image quality ie dynamic range, how the camera balances detail in the high lights / shadows and the Leica setting how Leica is it ? Thanks again.
It's marketed for wildlife and outdoors, but if you use an external SSD to record video, you need a power adapter for the battery. So you'll be rather restricted. It's a nice feature, but I don't know how useful outside of indoor/studio use. The battery not being upgraded is good for backward interchangeability but not as helpful for situations like this. I am curious if there will be adaptations done in the future to help with this. I'm not sure what could be done, but I'm sure someone will think of something.
if you have uhs-ii cards many of the video features are unlocked, not sure i know of many sports and wildlife shooters who need/use apple prores, but that might be a niche category. and if you shoot ssd to unlock the really high end video features it would be perfect for any sunny sports event, even some light rain as well, idk how many sports cameras are rated for weather sealing at this price point regardless of video spec. the problems you are describing are not unique to this camera and are not really mainstream problems at all. the camera has PD on usb c, if you don't want to swap batteries, but all the pros i've ever known simply carry extra, even in the old days. even then, the battery lasts something like 2+ hours recording video depending on what codec you are using, not sure when you would really need much more than that on a single wildlife shoot. again, these are non-issues if you know what you're doing. plus there is nothing else that shoots 60fps afc raw no blackout at this price point.
Useful video clip. Although I use OM System and Sony cameras and lenses I do have the excellent G9 and several Panasonic lenses. However, this G9 mark ii is definitely ticking the boxes for video particularly the 120 fps 4K and slow motion. Looking at using my Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 with x1.4TC and the in camera stabilisation for video that requires a controllable frame size, as well as my Sirui 24mm Anamorphic M4/3rds lens. All looking very interesting 😊😏
If you aren't too worried about the extra 5 MP and don't need the additional video features, it's really a great camera. I've had it for a year, and I can't say enough about how nice the jpegs out of camera are. I don't even know how to describe the quality they have. It just is. I have had fairly good luck with autofocus as well, though it does fall off in low light. I'd say if you can, test it out. I was able to with my local camera store. They let me use it for a week, and I could return it for a full refund if I didn't like it. I also got the bundle with the 12-40mm f/2.8 pro ii. It's a nice lens, far better than most that are bundled with cameras in this way.
It depend on what, (probably on photography) if yes that´s the diffrenet story ( I also decide in past move to OM-1 or panasonic example) but for video you will faced some issues if you search deeply (focus on panasonic or sony if video)
As was mentioned in another in another comment you seemed to purposely omit the loss of the top info screen, which is so handy I bought a G9 recently at a great price used and I don't feel that I made a mistake by not waiting for this 'upgrade'
As a long term G9 shooter I can tell you definitely didn't go wrong with the original G9. However, the new G9II is on another level. Definitely upgrading to this one and keeping the original G9 as a secondary body.
A sad omission after having a G9 since introduction esp if in a new location needing to quickly check rather than having to use the viewfinder or open back - I still use my 2x GH4Rs without the top screen of course but... still feel that top screen very useful. Thanks for the info you gave. @@nightowlnzab

g9 mk II sounds like a great hybrid camera informative review Thanks Park Cameras.
Great review.. exciting times! Love the original G9, so much bought two, one from Park cameras.. and the new one looks very impressive.
yes, the Leica 200 f/2.8 is a gem. Nice to hear that the new G9 utilises a dual ISO gateway system - good dynamic range.

Great review as always. I haven’t watched for a while and at first didn’t recognise you. You’re looking great 👍 fit.
Thanks for the video! Do you have any experienced, how the new AF performs in combination with a speedbooster and a non-native lens (i.e. from Canon)?
Show us AF with viltrox/Sigma 18-35! No one has yet tested this!

That combo with the 200mm is so sexy.

So, how does the G9 II perform shooting a Wedding? (I found squirrels don't seem to pay much for their Albums!)

Any thoughts on this vs the OM-1? Quite the savings available on a used OM-1 right now. Makes me wonder which I should go about buying. Thanks!

Do you know if Phase Af works in 4k 120?
Yes

What happened to the Top Screen which was/is very useful on G9? No mention or did I miss it?
It’s gone, this model is based on the S5II body, and that doesn’t have a top screen.
Yeah sadly that's gone

yeah it sux that they dropped it. It was part of the G9's unique appeal. I use it constantly.
I'll be able to afford the Panasonic G9 mk II to replace my original G9 about when the Panasonic G9 mk III shows up. .....oh well.
Same price as for the original G9 the time it was released. 🙂
