i know some people thought the show was too “sunshine and rainbows” (no pun intended) but i think it’s great for lgbtq+ kids to see a hopeful & positive side of discovery and coming out. cuz even if you didn’t/don’t have the same experience as nick and his mom, or you don’t have a friend group like charlie’s, they’re out there & you’ll find your people❤
its crazy because this show still contains soooo much conflict but in this case its just more internal conflict. not every lgbtq+ story has to involve homophobia and even then this show still had very evident homophobia. def nont sunshine and rainbows, just a more positive side indeed despite also a lot of non positive things going on (homophobia for one)
Right? I feel like people always want to see struggles but hello we experience/see it every day in real life, it's okay to watch something fun without all the problems related to lgbtq+ for once haha. Same with the book 'Red, white and royal blue', I saw comments everything was resolved too easly and I think thats compleatly fine, let me at least read or watch something where the world is how it should be, let me dream!! 😅
I actually liked that it was more rainbow and sunshine as a lot of LGBT media seems to be very depressing. I heard season 2 will be much less happy and deal with some heavier subject matter. It was refreshing to just watch something where everything didn't go to shit and have toxic relationships everywhere.
It’s been renewed for season two and three! it’s based on the webcomic by Alice Oseman and it actually follows it pretty much to the T. They’ve already started filming season two
Between actually rewatching it myself and watching reactions to it, I’ve probably watched Heartstopper 25 times, and I continue to be impressed at the chemistry between Kit and Joe, and at how exceptional the acting is across the board. There are so many little tiny details in the acting that convey the things that aren’t said with words. Like many adult gays who’ve watched it, this show is quite cathartic. It’s something we wish had existed for us when we were confused kids. In our day, all portrayals of gays were either as campy comic relief or tragic - no characters who we would want to (or for the many of us who aren’t campy queens) could identity with. Seeing a very realistic portrayal of the self-discovery process and of healthy gay young teen “puppy love” is incredibly meaningful and important.
They've already confirmed that Isaac will have his own storyline in the upcoming season. The reason is that he did not exist in the webcomic and was created specifically for the show. Also, I regret my original take on the show saying it was too unrealistically positive. But then I realized that was sort of the point, young people need stories that are wholesome and positive.
Yeah no this season is the lighthearted one but the next one it’s going to get people in the feels. Also Elle being bullied out of her school, Charlie being harassed by Ben and the other boys, and Tara has to deal with girls insulting her and calling her gross, and she rans away bursting into tears. That’s lots of conflicts that are realistic. So the entire episodes are not full of wholesomeness. It keeps things balanced but test the point of the series it’s to be a normal series where teens and older kids can enjoy. Drugs, violence and sex are not common on must young teens lives, specially outside the US.
@@louisastone3510yes. Alice changed Aled to Issac bc I think she still wanted him in there but Aled did not much to the story line so she changed it to Issac bc he has more of a story line in season 2
@@makncheese9628 I think it was more because Aled actually has his own story and his own book, Radio Silence, and Alice Oseman didn't want him there but ignoring his story (which doesn't have much to do with Charlie and the gang)
"If she can say that, then you should be able to just, like, hit her with the clarinet. Both of those things should be allowed if one's gonna be allowed." OMG Bev, that comment made me HONK! 🤣
I think one of the reasons I love the writing of this show is that the problems the characters face sometimes have to do with their identity and sexuality etc, but their identity or sexuality isn't the problem. Like, Elle, her problem is a new school and making new friends, and while her being trans has to do with her changing schools, it could have been any other reason. Her falling for Tao and not being sure is she should pursue could have to do with her being trans and not being sure if he like her back because of that, but it's not about her being trans, it's about them being friends, and her being unsure if they would still be able to be friends if he doesn't like her back for any other reason etc. Her being a trans girl has influence on her life and her decisions etc, but it's not her entire storyline. That goes for most of the other characters, like, their identity is of course an essential part of their character, but it's not the only thing they are, or the only thing they experience.
This show deserves praise for so many things but I feel like the amazing set design is often overlooked. The artroom is a particular treat. Most of the classrooms actually.
During your Stranger Things season 4 reaction, I was really struck by your sensitivity and empathy towards Will. It made me feel really comfortable and warm inside. During that reaction you mentioned having watched Heartstopper, which ALSO made me feel safe here. So I was overjoyed to actually see that you had filmed it! And this reaction is so sweet and wholesome, as well as insightful and thorough. Just what I’ve come to expect from you. Thank you for this! 🌈
fun fact! 27:33 the HS team actually had to send this clip to both Kiera Knightly and Orlando Bloom to get their permission to put it in the show so they actively know that this scene was used for a bisexual awakening!! (also how dare you say Pirates isn’t a gay movie, pirates are ALWAYS queer)
"Lots of gay people are good at sports" is actually a more meaningful quote than you'd think. And I really hope they'll reveal why in season two, along with all the other queer people in the story.
One of the things i love about this show, is it's so damn realistic! No cliché scenes or drama in my opinion. It's what a lot of people go through and i love it for showing that. I'm still watching the video, but i love it so far :)
The shirt Issac was wearing in the bowling ally was on sale in a clothing store across from the bowling ally and behind the scene staff went over and bought shirts for themselves (including Alice I believe), and so for a good part of the day, they were dressed like Issac.
incredible reaction!! another excellent (but slightly darker) queer show is young royals. i think you'd love the drama if you wanted to give it a shot!
Young Royals, the show that makes you fall in love with Omar Rudberg as Simon the same way Wilhelm does. While I love Young Royals for queer reasons, it's also the absolutely best love story I've ever seen in my life. What a masterpiece of acting, writing, directing, cinematography - a future classic.
This is my favourite of all the Heartstopper reactions I've seen; thank you. The simplicity of this beautiful show makes it so powerful. It's so real and so unapologetic in its optimism. And Kit Connor's forced coming out this week takes the show to another level as a manifesto for decency, respect and love. Peace x.
wow, this reaction was so good. your appreciation for the story and the actors is so heartwarming. I think you would really like the show Young Royals too, it's a queer story but it has a bit of a darker tone to it, while being very realistic to teenagers lifes/feelings/conflicts, also has amazing acting and pristine soundtrack :)
This is actually based on a comic book series!! I really recommend reading them. the artist/author is amazing and has amazing storylines! Also theres gonna be a 2nd season!
I’m beyond late to this video but I just wanted to say I hope you’re doing well! There were certainly mixed reactions when I came out but over time I’ve found incredibly supportive ppl to surround myself with. You deserve that sort of support and kindness in life 💚
Adding to the comment suggesting Young Royals. That show is a masterpiece. The acting, writing, directing, cinematography, etc. is absolutely off the charts.
My 11yo adores this show. No idea if she is queer or not, but I am stoked. It has so much good modelling of so many things for tweens and tweens. Not just navigating romance and lgbtq+ identification. But geneal friend and family relationships. More so in the books. Looking forward to later seasons. I really liked how Alice dealt with mental health.
Agree about you reacting to Young Royals, though I wouldn’t say it’s exactly like Heartstopper. It has a different, more grown up, yet equally beautiful vibe to it, and I think you’d really appreciate the storytelling choices and the use of soundtrack on the show. Cannot recommend it enough 🥰
the way that i JUST started searching for new heartstopper content TODAY and you popped up as the first result!! mayhaps the youtube algorithm does work sometimes
You should definitely watch Pride, it's such a great story! It's based on real events and it's about LGBTQ activists joining miners in protests in the 80s in London. Moonlight is amazing too, touching story and beautiful pictures. These 2 movies couldn't be more different but love them both
really really wanna recommend you watch young royals. it is INCREDIBLE. the season 2 just came out 4 days ago. you would absoluely LOVE the show based on what ive seen you like:) its a swedish show, so if you do end up watching it i suggest watch it in swedish audio with eng sub instead of dub.
I love that you did a poll and ended up watching something that was completely unknown to you. Like, I'm happy that you got to watch it (even though I didn't know about your channel/you before watching this reaction). Heartstopper is such an important show. I don't think it's importance can be overstated.
Loved this reaction! Funny that you mentioned Isaacs's shirt, it was a whole thing on set, the staff all went and bought the same shirt to wear when filming those scenes! Isaac's actor, Tobie Donovan, has a behind the scenes vlog on youtube that's a really fun watch.
Hi, just saw this reaction video for the first time and you are just wonderful in your reaction to it. You reacted to certain scenes which so many did in the same way. What a great reaction video, I adore Heartstopper, and can't wait for season two due this year.
I appreciate your reaction and your appreciation for this beautiful show. I was a little disappointed you didn't react to some of my favorite scenes (episode 6, Nick telling Charlie he told Darcy about them, telling Elle at the milkshake cafe, episode 7 Nick calling Charlie "Char" etc). I agree that you should watch Young Royals. I was resistant to it at first because it is grittier than Heartstopper and I don't like when people compare the two shows, esp. since Heartstopper is targeted toward a younger audience. But Young Royals is excellent and the acting is also fantastic.
HS is such a beautiful show! So heartwarming and innocent. A nice different take on a queer relationship, a healthy one at that. You should try Young Royals next! Similar in some aspects but completely different shows, both equally amazing!!
@@AttackOfTheBees why would you say so. i thou YR was so much more gritty and life like. the dialogue in heartstopper just seemed so much more unnatural to me.
@@sashagray6196 I mean YR is not meant to be realistic or about normal people's lives, it's built into the concept of the show. I get there are some more realistic and relatable elements included within that, but the idea of it being seen as an accurate portrayal is just funny to me. I do think there's quite an interesting parallel where YR has a fantastical setting and plot, but they've toned elements of the characters down from what you'd expect to seem more grounded and normal (in some ways at least), whereas Heartstopper has a much more grounded and normal setting, but with somewhat fantastical elements to the characters who're very well spoken and far more emotionally intelligent than you'd expect.
First time watching any of your videos and I can imagine you became a lot of people's "Nick" after watching this. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings about this great show. You're one of those "people on the internet" that young, confused and inexperienced people can watch and feel like there are allys out there who want to learn and understand what they may be going through. People who can see the pain, confusion and love that we all go through in life and talk about it in the most awesome way possible. Subscribed!
I love the fact that they got Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman (Best Actress, “The Favourite”) to play Nick’s Mom. She always brings her “A” game, no matter the size of the role.
"its not like that for everyone" yup when I came out as bisexual to my parents I was told I ruined the family. so when I watched this scene it broke my whole heart
Love your chill, accepting, thoughtful vibe. Heartbreakers is the first show in a long time that I binged and then rewatched a second time. Feelgood show.
Great review. I was so overwhelmed with emotions when I first watched it there was no way I could have articulated the underlying feelings of the characters like you did while watching. For me, two of the best scenes were right before the first kiss and right after the 2nd kiss. You saw anticipation but I saw the outright panic a person has when they take that first step/risk to affirm their sexuality and same for after the 2nd kiss. Kit delivers a masterful performance.
I love your reaction! Literally spoke my mind. I have watched several reactions but this is refreshing and makes me feel how I felt the first time I watched.
I really enjoy your perspective on things. It’s refreshing to see someone review a positive story about a coming of age story and see that it is in so many ways a universal experience we all need to watch and be open to.
you always made me feel like your channels are a safe space, but this is like an upgrade of safetiness(??? I don't speak English sorry but just thank you🥺❤✨
The assault moment that Nick breaks up is such a trigger for me, even so many years later. I was leaving an Episcopal Youth Conference where I'd had a really good time with my youth group friends when this one guy kind of grabbed me and took me into a dark area of the outside of the building and told me how cute and flirty I had been being and shoved me up against a pillar and stick his tongue on my mouth. I was so shocked because I liked him but I was really into my other friend, who was at this point this guys best friend (fyi we got together and 40 years later we've been married for 35 years). My future husband had been walking slightly before us and didn't realize what had happened until I told him later. The crazy thing is I was wearing a heavy sweater and baggy overalls. So never thing a girl (or boy on this case) must have been asking for it. By the way I shoved him off but i think I just kind of laughed it off at that point. Part of the complication was I had had a slight crush on this guy as well. I was 15 and he was 17. My future husband was 18. This dude tried it again another time at future husband's house. We were there with this guy and his girlfriend who was really sweet but clearly has a bit of a crush on my husband (boyfriend by then). For some reason I don't recall they were in another room and the asshole was sitting in an easy chair talking to me. I was standing next to the chair talking to him and he grabbed my belt to pull me onto his lap to try to make out with me. Remember, his girlfriend was in another part of the house. I shoved his hand away and he got really pissed because the day or two before he had injured his thumb really badly in print shop and hurt it by shoving it. He called me a b***ch, believe it or not. Crazily we stayed friends with this asshole for another year or so and final oh my future husband just had had enough on my behalf. He just saw what a toxic human this guy was. Talking to a friend a few months back who has dated him and kept in touch to some degree, she said he got really abusive with his second wife. This friend wound up coming out as a lesbian in her late 20's btw, after having a lot of toxic hetero relationships. Anyway, Ben shoving Charlie up against the wall and forcing an unwanted kiss brings that all back so vividly. Not that I ever forgot it but it was so similar. Only I had to shove him off myself because no one else witnessed it. Oh yeah, in youth group we'd do this thing called a "jelly roll" which was when you'd hug one person and they'd turn and hug the next person or something like that. It as really an excuse for horny teens to have safe physical contact. All the other boys would kind of politely rotated their hips away in order not to press their inevitable erections against the girls (future husband had a super hero ability to repress them when needed) but this guy would intentionally grind it into the girls he was into. God, he was so gross and 40 years later I'm still embarrassed I ever had any kind of crush on him. FYI, my husband is also a drummer which was partly what attested me to him in the first place. ❤
"I never thought this would happen to me" is an all too common feeling for so many queer people. We are made to feel unloved from a very young age. Everyone deserves to feel loved.
When people react to Tao, you have to remember he has all the best intentions for Charlie, but goes about them in the wrong way. Also, remember we the audience get to see everything about Nick and Charlie, but from Tao's point of view, since Charlie has told him nothing about his growing relationship with Nick, Tao simply views Nick through the friends Nick has, which is mostly but not entirely homophobic bullies. Tao has never seen the soft, kind and warm side Nick has for Charlie, and that Nick would actually be a strong friend for Tao if he just got to know him better, which gradually happens in season two.
Thank you for sharing your reaction to this show. Your comments to the characters and the situations are very kind. Except for the "coming out" thing, these are the experiences anyone may have in life. That's why the show is so heart warning.
Heartstopper was a Graphic Novel at first and the general idea behind it was that hard topics will be covered with a very optimistic view. The show in general keeps that theme although a few more dramatic parts where added as the show would have too little conflict otherwise. Because of the very extreme color grade and some obviously fake seeming parts (like the rain and snow) I also personally think this show is made as a retelling from Charlie and Nick themselves which then explains the more fake elements as you normally remember something in a way better (or worse) light than it actually was Lastly although in my opinion not quite as good (also due to the limited time) I think Love, Simon is very similar to this as well (it explores these themes with an optimistic view that in some ways shows how things should be) and I also think it was one of the projects that made Series like Heartstopper possible
You should watch the film English film Beautiful Thing from 1996. It has a similar feel about people discovering their feelings and is a lovely heartwarming film.
Love this show. It's cliche how deeply I react to it. Read the webcomic and was equally elated to see it on screen and terrified it wouldn't live up to the story I loved. Even though I knew Alice Oseman was involved in writing the script. I'm so ready for season 2 now!!!
The whole playlist is on Spotify; also, all the brilliant background music commissioned for the show is available on Spotify under "Adiescar Chase", the music director...
i love how you're saying it feels realistic, because that's a thing most people somehow complain about with this show... that it feels unrealistic. some people say it's too sweet and ideal, too sugary or whatever, and then others say homophobia like this doesn't even exist anymore, that it feels fake... both of them takes which confuses me to no end lmao, i'm right there with you. this was realistic as hell, and all the characters felt like real people with complex emotions and a lot going on for them, and i adore it to bits. glad you did too!! when you mentioned having seen heartstopper in, i think it was a stranger things reaction a few weeks ago, and i got a bit sad because i thought you'd just seen it on your own and i wouldn't get to see your reaction to it, but i'm glad that's not the case!
I love that you loved heartstopper and I agree it is such an true depiction of what it’s like to go through these things! Have you seen the haunting of hill house and the haunting of bly manor ?I think you would really like them even though there are scary/creepy bc these showes have so much heart and are just in general amazingly written and shot…and also I just really want to watch you reacting to both of the shows hahahaha (especially the endings) I love your reaction videos!
U should watch young royals next!! Season 2 came out last week!! It’s also an LGBTQ+ show but really different than heartstopper. It’s about prince Wilhelm and his classmate Simon. Wille has responsibilities as prince of Sweden and it’s a lot for him. He’s also trying to figure these feelings he’s having for Simon. If u plan on watching it, leave the Swedish audio on with English (CC) subtitles .

COMPLETELY LOVE THIS VIDEO 😭💛 So glad you could appreciate the show in such a beautiful way.
I just found your channel and I’m enjoying all your videos !
Hi, just saw this reaction video for the first time and you are just wonderful in your reaction to it. You reacted to certain scenes which so many did in the same way. What a great reaction video, I adore Heartstopper, and can't wait for season two due this year.
This show is so great. Kit Connor's smile melts mu heart,,, The way Charlie's sister just appears m cracks me up...
Do we ever get tired of saying how cute Charlie & Nick are together? No, no we don't ❣️
They are currently filing season 2, and have already agreed to season 3 as well. Looking so forward to it! It’s an amazing show!
Kit Connor mentioned in some interviews how he enjoyed playing the character because a lot was so internal, and the challenge of representing that.
HS is such a beautiful show! So heartwarming and innocent. A nice different take on a queer relationship, a healthy one at that. You should try Young Royals next! Similar in some aspects but completely different shows, both equally amazing!!
if you enjoyed heartstopper then you might enjoy young royals too! it’s a accurate portrayal of teenagers and lgbtq characters
While I enjoyed YR a lot, I think Heartstopper is by far the more realistic one.
totally second this
Haha Young Royals is good, but although I kind of know what you mean the idea of it being an accurate portrayal did make me laugh 😄
Subscribed!
the show is confirmed for 2 more seasons!
I love the fact that they got Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman (Best Actress, “The Favourite”) to play Nick’s Mom. She always brings her “A” game, no matter the size of the role.
I really hope you are going to review season 2 when it’s out because I loved your reaction, thank you! 🌸☺️
loved heartstopper! you should watch young royals! season 2 just dropped 4 days ago and it was Excellent Television.
Nick (Kit Connoer) played 'Elton John' as a boy in ROCKETMAN where also got crotical praise.
Not me checking everyday for your next GoT reaction. 😂
This friend wound up coming out as a lesbian in her late 20's btw,
after having a lot of toxic hetero relationships.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that !!!
Instant subscribe. What a beautiful reaction!
I love the soundtrack. And this show.
It's time you watch young royals
I really enjoyed your discussion about it. Such a great show!
Because of the very extreme color grade and some obviously fake seeming parts (like the rain and snow) I also personally think this show is made as a retelling from Charlie and Nick themselves which then explains the more fake elements as you normally remember something in a way better (or worse) light than it actually was
Lastly although in my opinion not quite as good (also due to the limited time) I think Love, Simon is very similar to this as well (it explores these themes with an optimistic view that in some ways shows how things should be) and I also think it was one of the projects that made Series like Heartstopper possible
This is my comfort show
You should watch the film English film Beautiful Thing from 1996. It has a similar feel about people discovering their feelings and is a lovely heartwarming film.
They really do have a great soundtrack 💜💜💜
Love this show. It's cliche how deeply I react to it. Read the webcomic and was equally elated to see it on screen and terrified it wouldn't live up to the story I loved. Even though I knew Alice Oseman was involved in writing the script. I'm so ready for season 2 now!!!
The whole playlist is on Spotify; also, all the brilliant background music commissioned for the show is available on Spotify under "Adiescar Chase", the music director...
yes the soundtrack appreciation is so real!! This show is so wholesome
btw love the reaction/commentary. It felt honest and rather vulnerable
So nice to watch a reaction where someone doesn’t hate on Tao the entire time.
Pride is one of my favourite movies! Definitely would recommend that film :)
i was just about to comment the same!! it's genuinely such a good film, definitely worth seeing
Young Royals is another beautiful series❤️
Pirates of the Caribbean is for the most people a bisexual awaking 😊and this you tuber is real it's Courtney J he is also bisexual and he is great
i love how you're saying it feels realistic, because that's a thing most people somehow complain about with this show... that it feels unrealistic. some people say it's too sweet and ideal, too sugary or whatever, and then others say homophobia like this doesn't even exist anymore, that it feels fake... both of them takes which confuses me to no end lmao, i'm right there with you. this was realistic as hell, and all the characters felt like real people with complex emotions and a lot going on for them, and i adore it to bits. glad you did too!! when you mentioned having seen heartstopper in, i think it was a stranger things reaction a few weeks ago, and i got a bit sad because i thought you'd just seen it on your own and i wouldn't get to see your reaction to it, but i'm glad that's not the case!
If u plan on watching it, leave the Swedish audio on with English (CC) subtitles .
please react to young royals as well!! its such a good show and deserves more appreciation
amazing reaction video, thanks.
I'm sorry but I'm dying laughing at 31:30 with you cutting off your own face 😂😂
Thanks for giving this show a chance! I always love your reactions, you're always so in tune with the emotions and small details. Also your appreciation for editing, soundtrack, characters. So good. The wait for your videos are always so worth it.
No tao slander for once😭✨️loved your reaction and hearing your thoughts on everything!!
You should watch young royals too! Season 2 just came out
Reinforcing this now that the third and final season has just been released. Pretty sure you would love this show
LETS GOOOOOOO!!!! BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE
I think thats what make me cry the most while watching this, not having all those suportive people arround me when I came out ☹️. Btw season 2 and 3 confirmed.
I get SO excited when I find a reactor I love, and you’ve got me! Subbed and am excited to see what else you have on your channel! Keep it up! 💛xo

you have to watch young royals, it’s a pride series it’s about the swedish royal family. it has a great story and goes over a lot of serious and needed to talk about topics, it’s just a very good show. also season 2 also just came out so if you watch it and like it there’s more!
