Wow, memories! I was a partner in a comic book/games store back then. Always trying to find The Next Big Thing LOL. I kept trying to get kids to play Panzerblitz, etc but when there was a D&D game brewing, it was never a competition! So I dove deep into those waters.
Oh to be that young and (relatively) innocent again...
Thanks for this video, it really brings back some good memories.

I owned everything in that catalogue with the exception of Imperium and Blue Max. "A House Divided" and The Space 1889 Soldiers Companion are the only remaining items in my collection.

This is so weird! I just opened up my Sixth Fleet box the other day to see if it still plays as entertainingly as it did back in the '80's, and I came across the Avalon Hill catalogue from January 26, 1985. I got a kick leafing through it to see what was available and what the prices were. Maybe I'll do a quick video on it soon.
GDW was one of my favorite publishers back in the day. For some reason, they seemed to handle the multiple genres (board, minis, and RPG) better than anyone else. Their RPG products were just as good as their wargames, which were just as good as their minis rules. Other companies I still have GDW wargames, minis, and RPG products on my shelves. Pity it fell victim to the seismic shift in the industry in the 1990's. But it's nice to see GDW principals like Frank Chadwick and Marc Miller still producing in the hobby thirty years later.

I've still got my dot matrix printer playtest copy of Air Superiority around here somewhere. My first playtest credit is in that game.

I have always been curious about Air Superiority but I have never played it.

Despite its age, it holds up really well. If you can find a decent copy at a reasonable price, I'd recommend picking it up. I don't think you will be disappointed. Surprisingly (for a tactical air game) the solitaire suitably is good (and there are some designed-to-be-played-solo scenarios included in the game). Air Strike was a sequel in the same system that focused more on ground attack, and also contains a number of solo-designed scenarios. I find JD Webster's air games (Fighting Wings is the WWII equivalent to Air Superiority) to be a fantastic blend of good physics models and playability. It's quite hard to find an air system that does both of those things well, but JD managed to do it.
