that is because in D3 they decided "F it we can just change the story to be whatever we want and people wont notice, hey who still remember D1 anyways right? Right?"
Interesting thing about the mithril sword, seeing as how mithril really was never mentioned again in the series (was it?) and in D3, Leoric has a mace.
Back in the day the games weren't only great. They were also hard! You had to actually use your pots and run away many times. Today your character dances around a little and sends his shiny waves of death and all your opponents die instantly...
As a class other than the Sorc in nightmare and hell, yes, it's pretty brutal. Problem in this video is he wasn't using a mace. Although it doesn't have the "50-150% extra damage to etc" attribute, clubs and the such hit more often and do more damage in Diablo 1
First off, allow me to say thank you for bringing these videos as I've not played the original Diablo yet. That being said, these videos are just plain fun watching with the music and awesome voice acting going on. I honestly felt bad for Wirt since he was a kid before finding out he's actually a jerk. I'm still up in playing the first one of the series if I can find the time to afford it lol. Thanks again guv; your effort has not gone to waste =).
for some reason i can't do this quest. That ogden guy talked to me at the start about it but i have gone on to level 14 and now that i realized what i was ment to do i can't because nobody will talk about it and i can't find anything on level 3 after going through it many times. it's frustrating.
Do you recognise Chris Metzen's voice at 3:24 . He also did Thrall's voice in Warcraft 3 and WoW, and a shit ton of other additional voices. Ahhh I'm such a nerd :)
@Metallicgnacio possible that Lazarus was just trying to find a way to get people down there, and even after Leoric died, his son was still a pretty good reason?
not sure if it was missed from video or my memory, but i recall one point in leorics dungeon where their is a sqaure block of skelos standing side by side in a tiny room, i bricked it wen i first opened that door, and also their is a secret area in leorics dungeon. its such a shame quests such as these are missed from thedark5 and thehell mods.
king leoric scared the soul out of me when I saw him I just ran back to the upper level. Imagine a 14ft skeleton with his 10ft long sword running twice your speed towards you that is shit scary! tip: a axe always comes in handy towards king leoric
Agreed. The very first time I saw that thing I almost shitted on my pants and got killed, obviously. Blizzard editors were genius when they created this kickin ass story.
raixom, many of the quests are randomly generated so some you may not encounter first time round, infact i can recall completing the game many times before i was suprised to see i hadnt yet done the dark knights helmet quest or the toxic river which never seemed to appear for me. thanks for the reply keboo, yes that definatly the level i was on about, the chamber of bones with the room full of skelos!
@vghardcore Ahh too bad, cause the online experience is quite something. Nice to know you fixed the display issue by yourself! Just out of curiosity, how did you fix it? I thought about a batch file that would kill explorer.exe process then launch Diablo.exe (Diablo.iso in case of an non-cd play), since explorer.exe causes this :/
Yes, Albrecht was Diablo, but that boy who was lying on the altar sure was the one who went with Lazarus into the labirynth and he was taken by the Butcher to Lazarus.
@highmario1996 the quests are random, the only sure quests are Lazarus and Diablo, you probably got the butcher or poisoned water supply quest instead, maybe both :o
@weskerv2: negative first of all it doesn't suck YOUR life away but does with your enemies (each hit some random percentage of your damage, i think up to 12) you also can take it off whenever you want to. at this state of game it has also a very high armor class and later on it's one of the most important items in the game for any meelee (maybe royal criclet tops it)
Hold on, didn't the first guy some "Some months ago..." referring to Leoric's son getting kidnapped and his eventual decent into madness and death? And then wort said he "[doesn't] care about some king that's been dead longer than [he's] been alive"? How does that add up?
@brandon77091 His AI only allows him to chase you for a while though... I always fight him in the big square room with crossroad (near the place where you find the lever to open the bars) and I run around, he mostly raises skeletons and seldom comes near to hit me. It is good to exp if you are quick enough to kill enemies and collect stuff :)
@deuschritter Its funny that his speech barely changed in Diablo 3, "How dare you break the warmth of life into my tomb ! Prepare yourself mortal, to serve me for all eternity !"
So how it is exactly? 0:07 Ogden says only "some months ago" when the events are started, it wasn't even as an instant how the king succumbed to madness but a slow progress. Then 2:35 Wirt says that "the king had been dead for longer than he's been alive". I never really understood Diablo's background story timeline. Diablo who had no physical form in Sanctuary needed a mortal host to possess its body to be able to manifest in a physical form. First he chose Leoric, but the king was so tenacious and strong in spirit that Diablo's evil couldn't completely possess him, instead he was driven in to madness. However Diablo had a much easier job with Leroic's sickly son, Albrecht. So how long time did it take when Leoric was fighting his inner fight against Diablo's possession (when he made those executions including his own wife)? How much time has it been until the prince was kidnapped and Diablo possessed him and used him as his mortal host. Then how much time has it been since Leoric was killed by Lachdanan then buried and then the actual events of the game when the heroes descended into the Tristram Cathedral visiting Leoric's tomb in which Leoric was a skeleton already not a recently buried deceased. Someone please explain me!
Lol writ just being his sarcastic self lol. Like you said leoric is the prime candidate for diablo host. Also true diablo have no form but that dosent mean he cant corrupt leoric remotely by using his soulstone. When lazarus kidnapped albrecht, leoric is still a main choice. The kidnapping are supposed to weaken leoric will so diablo can gain control over him. Fortunately, after corrupted leoric atrocity, prince aldian along with his knight and priest killed him resulting in diablo changing his plan by using albrecht body instead. Leoric got corrupted > leoric started degrading > albrecht got kidnapped > leoric getting madder (tristan slaugther etc) > prince aldian and his party kill leoric > lazarus prepared albrecht as replacement host > aldian embark to tristan as warrior > diablo 1 game
@vghardcore Do you still play Diablo? I'm searching for people to play with. Many people stopped when they figured out there was a disply issue when playing D1 on Windows 7, but Blizzard made a .reg file that corrects this.
I found King Leoric's treasure chest, over *100.000* in Gold!! thy master is called Greed Eternal. All hail King Leoric This game is pure genius & i think that its much better than Diablo 2
People complain that blizz retconned the story so that the warrior is also the son of Leoric, prince Aiden. However, this lore is never ruled out by any of the games. Why is it not possible that a wayward son came back to his home town to find his father and brother in trouble, then hides his identity to protect himself and then helps out his old town. Nothing wrong with the lore here....
@SolarVampire He's a total badass in Multiplayer mode. Not having any of Butcher's stupidity, it's almost impossible to defeat him as a warrior if you're not a lucky with the drops.
sixsixrevolver how did leoric believe anybody was a traitor when he was driven to insanity? Like I didn’t pay close attention to how leoric used to be good then turned bad
lol...I know your pain. Leoric, in single player, drops his crown, which happens to have lifesteal. In single player, Leoric doesn't have lifesteal, but in multi, he does. That means ANY damage you're taking will heal him. My suggestion is to have a warrior with a shield 'tank' him, and have the other person learn holy bolt up to rank 2 and just spam it as often as possible (bring mana potions). If you have no warrior, both just use holy bolts, he goes down fast with that spell.
Yeah. I was hoping that we could fight the butcher again. who knows. but at blizzcon Leoric was awesome. His weapon was HUGE. and he looked awesoe. such a fun game. already!

To be fair I remember people using Apoc or Nova or Fire Wall or Flame Wave in D1 and having all the opponents die instantly there also.
Diablo 1 is really not that hard.
You say that but there are harder difficulties which can make it feel an awful lot like the old days

No wonder Leoric is bigger than the rest of the skeletons.
In Diablo 3, his huge battlehammer adds to his size, and in that game, he's as tall as an elephant.
