    Scahill was underplaying Russian election meddling a year ago, even mocking those who wanted to investigate. Now he says there's definitely something there, but money crimes are more significant.
    Russians inserting themselves in our political process is pretty important to me and has affected my life more than Trump's financial crimes. I say these two things converge and can be investigated & prosecuted concurrently.

    • @Unclejamsarmy
      @Unclejamsarmy 6 лет назад +1

      Carol McKee there was less evidence then. I encourage you to look up the intercept article showing the shockingly large number of stories claiming evidence of Russian attacks on the electric grid, state voting systems, and on and on that they completely retracted, usually without an apology and with as little attention as possible. It’s possible for mainstream media to wildly hype and overstate things, naively believe the word of intelligence agencies when they produce no evidence AND also have legitimate reporting, investigation, facts. That is the case with Russia. The absurd idea that relatively tiny groups of trolls, and RT, one of the lowest rated cable news channels managed to have significant influence on the election is a shameless and obvious lie when those same channels were responsible for giving trump billions of dollars in free coverage and covering policy than less ever before. Btw RT employs such notorious Putin shills as Larry king, ed Schultz, thom Hartmann and others. They tend towards anti-imperialist hosts which fits with Russia’s interests but hasn’t the slightest bearing on the legitimacy of that standpoint. Many of us are anti-imperialist and deeply critical of Russia.

    • @Unclejamsarmy
      @Unclejamsarmy 6 лет назад

      Carol McKee to be clear I think there has been mounting evidence that points to Russian collusion but obviously it hasn’t been proven yet. It’s wildly unlikely Russia swung the election and few serious peolle claim that. The evidence suggesting financial crimes is the strongest, and may have just as much influence on your life if it means they have leverage over trump and thus US policy.
      Point is there’s tons of lies and bullshit and bad reporting about Russia from reputable sources, and plenty of good reporting. Most of the good reporting hadn’t happened a year ago. Many of the claims that have been made have already been debunked and more almost certainly will be. There will also almost certainly be more good reporting and evidence. Nothing is black and white👌

Russia has significant if not the largest oil and gas reserves on the planet. America provides the enforcement talent for this operation.

    Towards the end, Scahill says Bernie Sanders voted for regime change in Iraq, implying he voted for the 2003 Iraq War. That implication is incorrect. Sanders voted against the resolution to go to war In 2003.
    He did vote in 1998 for a Clinton admin. resolution advocating for "regime change in Iraq".
    It's unfair to paint the 1998 vote as his position, because after all, if America had listened to him, we would not have pulled the trigger.
    -- Scahill is also trying to include Greenwald's tongue lashing of him, 8:15, don't point fingers at Russia until you see the evidence.
    Overall a good talk. I just take two issues with his statements.

    It looks like Trump and Pompeo could swap suits without a problem. On a more serious note, there will be no solutions to the many problems of US politics without major campaign finance reform (modest personal contribution limits, no corporate money, and some public money) and much better voter turnout. An old professor of mine once said that choosing representatives by a lottery system would cure many of these evident problems. At the time I thought he was crazy, but 30 years later I'm thinking he may have been onto something. Of course, none of this will happen, and yet 300,000,000 weapons are in the hands of an electorate increasingly impoverished and alienated. It could be that nothing will happen for years, and then suddenly everything will change, and not necessarily for the better. Have a great day everyone.

If we didn't want Shiite/ Iranian influence to be dominant in Iraq why in the world did we get rid of Saddam? I'm sure many Iraqis (both Shiite and Sunni) remember fondly the days of Saddam's rule which though brutal allowed for women e.g. to become highly educated and occupy important jobs.
