Setting aside the fact that Gacha games are extremely popular. People who play these games also vote for them in these awards shows (TGA specifically) because whenever they won an award, they gifted rewards as a thank you to the players. Expansions should just be its own category giving room for recognition of new games so the industry has room to grow. Yet still recognize a great game expansion since a lot of effort sometimes goes into them.

It's pretty expected to see this happen IF you know the numbers but of course a lot of us who only really care about the now and what's new in the gaming space are going to overlook those titles.
Tbh if the next player's voice top 5 would be all gacha games I wouldn't be surprised. I did a bit of research and the fact that wuthering got 30m in pre-registration and zenless had 40m is very surprising. And that gonner game gfl2 has already made 12m$ in a week is crazy. Also let's consider that they all are live service games which tend to have a big player base
Bots not gamers. It’s pretty obvious bots flooded that award. It’s never looked like that before. It has always been the best games. Now it’s 3 gacha games and a dlc. Lmao. How anyone watches this trash is beyond me. Geoff has helped ruin gaming

I've said it a million times - hardcore gamers, especially the ones leading the discourse on Social Media, are completely out of touch with mainstream gamers. And it is the mainstream gamers who determine what Sony and Microsoft ultimately care about. That is why so many of you are always surprised when you see Sony coming out with endless remasters, EA focusing on endless microtransactions, and Xbox putting their games on other platforms.
4:08 sadly yes. Live service games are very popular but gamers are very picky. When you hear "we don't want live service!" They are actually saying "we really want interesting live service games!" Actions speak louder than words and this is a perfect example
Currently with everything going on with the awards I don't trust it, is all about money. I'm going to watch the trailers when the show is over tomorrow.
Im a gamer 44 years old. Have a PS5 Pro, Switch, gaming PC, Steam Deck, gaming is my passion... I'd never vote for game of the year. Yet, these gotcha gamers are crazy about these games and will away care about voting for them
The main reThe main reason is that the sales of these high-scoring games this year are too low and their influence is too weak. For example, FF7rb has 3 million copies, Astro Bot has 1.5 million copies, and Metaphor has only 1 million copies. If it is last year's BG3, Zelda, and Resident Evil 4, then besides genshin, it is difficult for the other two Gacha to make the final list.
Should also be a wake up call for the western players. Because wukong had 60% sales in china and elden had 40 or even 50% of its sales in china... they are buying more games than us easily.
I kept saying to myself since SOTE came out "Shadow of the Erdtree is the best thing I've played all year, but it doesn't count because it's DLC" I'd have conversations with friends and a lot of us felt the same way. Granted, I'm a big Souls player and so are my friends, I've put 300 hours in SOTE alone across 7 playthroughs of the DLC. I get it, it's a DLC that you need the base game for, although you can't deny the quality and content of said DLC is better than a lot of base games that came out this year, that's why the TGA's included it.
I used to have some faith in awards, but when High on Life in 2022, then last year Cocoon & Jusant got snubbed (even though they were clearly in the upper echilon of games) I bowed out. We've had some great games again this year, Neva, Still Wakes the Deep and even The First Descendant, and I bet none of them get a mention.
I feel like the fans vote should only be for games released in December 2023 to now. Each year, it should be games released in the within 12 to 13 months instead of just any game that is popular, even if it's released like 5 to 7 years ago. Then again, the Game Awards was never really done a great stop with the award side of things as people only care about trailers
I'm seeing a lot of comments talking about players voting for Genshin and ZZZ because they will receive prizes in the game if these games win and yes I believe this is true, but I don't think it's the only thing that contributed to this line up . games as a service have a huge number of players who dedicate hundreds and sometimes thousands of hours to these games and many of them don't play many other games, these are their favorites. We all live in our bubbles and we believe that the games we play and watch content online are the most played and talked about games in the industry, but if we leave our bubbles it is very clear that these types of games have a bigger player base. bigger especially when we consider that most of these people are in China which has a huge population. so even disregarding players who hope to gain something in exchange for these votes, I don't think it's a surprise that they are here
I don’t even remember players voice being in there for multiple years now; all I remember is 2019 showing everyone it was a mistake to not nominate Three Houses for GOTY when it won the players voice award
I’m a casual gamer and honestly I like all these finalists (haven’t played Wuthering Waves though). I think you have to keep in mind just how many people actually play gachas, especially coming from Hoyoverse. Hell, I have friends that don’t even play video games or keep up with the industry that ONLY play Genshin
Wuthering Waves is another open world gacha game. It’s essentially a Genshin knock-off, made by a company known for copying whatever Hoyoverse does. It had a very rough launch, but it’s stuck around and has built a small but loyal playerbase, known for being very vocal against Genshin. People really want a “Genshin Killer” for some reason, and if I had to guess that’s probably why this is here.
Kuro Games as a company is pretty funny honestly, every time Hoyoverse makes a game, you can expect Kuro to make a very similar game within the next few years. They’ve done this with Honkai 2, Honkai 3 and Genshin so far, and even made a copy of their HoyoLab platform, even being caught using an unedited copy paste of the HoyoLab terms of service for theirs lol You’ll probably see their name come up again in a few years, there’s likely a Honkai Star Rail-like game in the works
Funny now that Genshin has basically copied 2 Tower of Fantasy (super dead game compared to it) characters now. First with Xianyun copying ToF’s Ling Han down to the color scheme and multi-jump skill idea. Second with Mavuika copying ToF’s Nola with her red outfit color scheme again and using a motorcycle. I do still play all 3 also (Genshin, Tower of Fantasy, and Wuthering Waves). Have seen the incredible crazy downs of Genshin. Lots of players still say competition is good. Hell we have been telling Hoyoverse to make gear load outs for 2 years with them still nothing to show except almost useless inventory filters but dead af game Tower of Fantasy already completed a gear loadout system with THREE updates to it and almost as good as Monster Hunter’s system. It’s insane how Genshin was so complacent until WuWa arrived on scene.
There are a lot of good titles this year from as shown from the prelim Players Choice list. However, those games don't have the following compared to Gacha games. Furthermore, its a factor of how vocal fanbases for gacha are compared to non-live service contenders. Elden Ring is a cultural phenomenon for gamers and is still relevant despite the issue with the DLC. For those who don't know, Wuthering Waves is another Breath of the Wild style open world where you can climb on anything and has Nier Automata like combat. I personally enjoy it and think its the highest tier of gacha alongside Genshin where the games feel like free AA and AAA games. Im actually shocked Wuthering Waves was a finalist because it didn't seem to get much buzz outside of day oners.
Ww coming ps5 in like 2 months. Might try, i do like genshin but its way to easy and i just use charachters i like no meta or anything. Heard ww is a bit more difficult atleast.
Tldr: games are similar, devs couldn't be more different. Wuthering waves and genshin are similar games. From the release of wuwa to now has really shown the difference in the people that make both of them. The makers of genshin continue to spit in their players facesand try to trick them with crocodile tears, while the wuwa devs continue to listen to suggestions of their players and actually make good changes. The difference between both games may not be that big, but they make a huge difference.
Im more concerned with having ign and other judges as rule for those 90% judge 10% vote parts than players choice awards no one trusts ign but here they are deciding for a huge part more than player votes thats like cnn voting for best reporting 2024
As it's been stated, gacha games give rewards to players when the games get nominated for game awards shows. And while it's entirely legal given TGA is a private show, it's certainly very unethical. Unfortunately, I don't believe Geoff gives a darn because to him, it's more publicity with no cost to his bottom line. And it's up to Geoff to decide if this is the environment he wants for TGA.
3 of the 5 are gacha games (one of which didn't even launch this year) vote-stuffed by their fanbases to get free pulls. Either put the gacha games in their own category or make a rule where gacha games can't bribe their players with free pulls. Until then, this so-called "player's voice" award is a joke.
Even the 2 game not live service here were bought by more than 50% chinese people... the 3 gacha are also chinese games... i dont think its a coincidence.
No, you're just delusional and refused to accept that Geoff Keighley has been fixing the game awards for almost a decade. People are delusional if they think that the player's voice was ever actually the player's voice.
To call people delusional while spouting delusional nonsense. It’s actually shocking how rotten your brain has gotten due to obsessing with nonexistent conspiracy theories. The reason it’s like this is obvious but you’re too broken for rational thought.
@@ct2651 “popular vote” based solely on the word of Geoff Keighley was is bought and paid for. Also, a vast number of gamers won’t vote on this based solely on who’s running it and that is if they even know about the poll. Did you not see how IGN manipulated their player poll?
This is definitely showing the more casual audience that the Game Awards pull in that simply don't care about specifics of the awards and just want their one game or that really popular title that was kinda of a trend game almost

TGA is the biggest joke ever in the entertainment business. How come that a such individual like Geogg Knightley having a such limitless power in the biggest entertainment industry, who the FUCK is he actually!?
Bro Fr. Geoff Keighley just decided one day that he wants to be the fave of gaming or something and just assumed everyone would love him but every year the awards gets worse and he looks more and more like a joke. L
You guys are all a bunch of suckers and don’t see the big picture that Geoff Keeley is making. He is seriously going to make black myth wukong win. Although I wouldn’t approach this the same as Geoff, it’s cool that he’s making the real winner win.
My hot take is these Chinese games probably shouldn't be nominated at all because they have an entire demographic that is restricted from playing other games and having a diverse perspective on them, skewing public votes like these.
Wuthering Waves is a gacha game from a smaller studio than Hoyo. Check out the gameplay. Its way higher quality than other gacha games combatwise.. comes to ps5 in January
This comment is going to come off as a long rant but most of the games here don't belong in players voice lol. A 7/10 at best soulslike game, a DLC, and 3 predatory gachaslop mobile games. One of them of which didn't even come out this year and released way back in 2020 so that one's definitely a wasted slot and shouldn't even be there in the first place and should stay in the best ongoing category where it belongs. And for some reason, I barely see anyone talking about how Geoff Keighley and the TGA officials let China players vote NINE TIMES ALL THROUGH DIFFERENT PLATFORMS/WEBSITES (including the official TGA website) making the votes for players voice specifically this year Region-Based. And this is not made-up because there is a highly lengthy detailed google document that someone wrote up with evidence that explains how China casted their votes this year compared to general global players. It even shows the names of of the websites and screenshots of what the websites looks like when a Chinese player wants to cast their vote on that specific platform. And all of this was because of Black Myth Wukong's massive popularity in China due to to the fact that this game is the first Triple A game they've had in years After the CN government banned game consoles in 2000 and the banned being lifted back in 2015. It's obvious that the TGAs giving China more voting opportunities ifself is meant to be biased towards Black Myth Wukong Because Geoff Keighley want as MUCH eyes on the TGAs this year (like he does every year tbh) so getting most of the BMW fans that come from CN would be a huge benefit for him. (Most of the player count for this game came from CN) The whole thing is scummy lol. I wish I could post the link to the document in my comment but I'm not sure if RUclips would let me. And when it comes to the 3 gacha mobile games making it to the top 5, this is mostly because the Companies (especially hoyoverse) that make these games bribe their players to vote because they're usually promised free premium currency if they win anything. Obviously this is gonna give gacha players extra incentive to vote for their game and one of the main reasons why genshin, a 4+ year old gacha mobile, has made its way to the top nominationed games for players voice since it came out in 2020. With all in this mind, I don't think gacha mobile games should belong in players voice and should be replaced with actual games. I think bribery from the gacha companies shouldn't be allowed imo. All of this explains why 4/5 of the games in this year's players voice are Chinese games, and also explains the lack of variety in this category. The Game Awards are a complete joke and continue to get worse and worse every year.
@FreakGeSt So I'm being salty for saying that that China had a massive when advantage when it came to voting in this year's player's voice? Make it make sense. The entire thing was region-based.
the combat, character animations/kits synergies are amazing, but the story is almost entirely slop. it's baffling how much better kurogames did writing in PGR and how none of it transpired into the next title of theirs however, the devs have the courtesy to give you a skip button for basically every single dialogue so one you've read several sentences and have determined it's slop you don't have to waste your time on it any further. can't say the same for any hoyo game
Where are gamers voting? This is the first i've ever heard of this. If this is through the same people as "The Game Awards", a corrupt organization that is fully bought/paid by the industry that wants to promote their own games, then most gamers were not voting, because we know this isn't a legit place to vote.
Personally, I didn’t play a lot of games that came out this year, which is why Wuthering Waves got my vote. I find its combat pretty enjoyable and its upgrade/gear system is a lot less frustrating compared to something like Genshin.
Setting aside the fact that Gacha games are extremely popular. It's called "buying your vote", which is partly why TGA is ruined.

It's pretty expected to see this happen IF you know the numbers but of course a lot of us who only really care about the now and what's new in the gaming space are going to overlook those titles.
Some of these nominees (still or not) just bought their way into these awards anyways, so what's the point?
Tbh if the next player's voice top 5 would be all gacha games I wouldn't be surprised. I did a bit of research and the fact that wuthering got 30m in pre-registration and zenless had 40m is very surprising. And that gonner game gfl2 has already made 12m$ in a week is crazy. Also let's consider that they all are live service games which tend to have a big player base
Gamers: " How DARE you placing Erdtree for Goty?"
Also Gamers:
Yup, they voted for it...
Bots not gamers. It’s pretty obvious bots flooded that award. It’s never looked like that before. It has always been the best games. Now it’s 3 gacha games and a dlc. Lmao. How anyone watches this trash is beyond me. Geoff has helped ruin gaming
Not the same people.
The game awards is a pile of crap fueled by advertisements.
Black Myth Wukong and Elden Ring are the only 2 choices up there I don’t question.
I'm voted BMW
Dlc used to have it's own category
I like Black Myth Wukong and Shadow of The Erdtree. Shadow of The Erdtree is my vote, because while I don't think it should be a viable vote. But it is, and I genuinely prefer it over BMW, I got much more enjoymemt out of it, I think it has more replayability amd more content.
I've said it a million times - hardcore gamers, especially the ones leading the discourse on Social Media, are completely out of touch with mainstream gamers.
And it is the mainstream gamers who determine what Sony and Microsoft ultimately care about.
That is why so many of you are always surprised when you see Sony coming out with endless remasters, EA focusing on endless microtransactions, and Xbox putting their games on other platforms.
well said! they're playing the games, not chronically online talking about them.
It is pretty simple. I will tell you why on the anime games in one word. Waifus.
4:08 sadly yes. Live service games are very popular but gamers are very picky. When you hear "we don't want live service!" They are actually saying "we really want interesting live service games!" Actions speak louder than words and this is a perfect example
"Fan Vote is what really matters"
What TGA has done is guaranteed I won't be watching it live and will just wait until the day after to see the new game announcements.
The Game Awards are a joke. The End.
balatro #1, all categories
God no
That trash and Elden Ring shouldn't even be up there
Currently with everything going on with the awards I don't trust it, is all about money.
I'm going to watch the trailers when the show is over tomorrow.
Im a gamer 44 years old. Have a PS5 Pro, Switch, gaming PC, Steam Deck, gaming is my passion... I'd never vote for game of the year. Yet, these gotcha gamers are crazy about these games and will away care about voting for them
Those gacha games are not even fun.
@wifi961 yeah, but these people fall in love with these characters
*Gacha
The main reThe main reason is that the sales of these high-scoring games this year are too low and their influence is too weak. For example, FF7rb has 3 million copies, Astro Bot has 1.5 million copies, and Metaphor has only 1 million copies. If it is last year's BG3, Zelda, and Resident Evil 4, then besides genshin, it is difficult for the other two Gacha to make the final list.
Chinese fans showed up. Simple explanation.
When you said it backfired, I thought for sure we were going to see Concoard on the list.
If you noticed most of these games are eastern for players choice. What does that say about western games? This should be a massive wake up call
Exactly
black myth wukong #1
I'm so un-invested in who wins at these awards that I thought they were already over with!
We all live in our bubbles and we believe that the games we play and watch content online are the most played and talked about games in the industry, but if we leave our bubbles it is very clear that these types of games have a bigger player base. bigger especially when we consider that most of these people are in China which has a huge population. so even disregarding players who hope to gain something in exchange for these votes, I don't think it's a surprise that they are here
Both wukong and elden ring have 50% or more sales number in china, meaning yes, china chose all winners this year.
Am I so out of touch? No. It's the children who are wrong.
I don’t even remember players voice being in there for multiple years now; all I remember is 2019 showing everyone it was a mistake to not nominate Three Houses for GOTY when it won the players voice award
interesting... didnt know three houses were so popular.
I love how he kept saying it's 6 games when it's not even 5, it's 4 and a DLC.
I'm just watching the TGA because me and my friend like to make fun of it every year.
They’ve done this with Honkai 2, Honkai 3 and Genshin so far, and even made a copy of their HoyoLab platform, even being caught using an unedited copy paste of the HoyoLab terms of service for theirs lol
You’ll probably see their name come up again in a few years, there’s likely a Honkai Star Rail-like game in the works
Kuro are so much nicer to their players then genshin is, so I'll pick them and a good copy anytime
@@randombread1456 tbf hoyo has also copied some works from others in the past, most recently in the Sunday trailer for HSR
@sintel4671 Yup Genshin was called a Breath of the wild copycat. There was boycott in china over it
Funny now that Genshin has basically copied 2 Tower of Fantasy (super dead game compared to it) characters now.
It is their nomination and choice. Why are gamers so angry about the choice made by others??
Elden Ring is just Dark Souls cross platform 💀
Tldr: games are similar, devs couldn't be more different.
Wuthering waves and genshin are similar games. From the release of wuwa to now has really shown the difference in the people that make both of them. The makers of genshin continue to spit in their players facesand try to trick them with crocodile tears, while the wuwa devs continue to listen to suggestions of their players and actually make good changes. The difference between both games may not be that big, but they make a huge difference.
We got to player's choice and they responded with "Gacha~"
Im more concerned with having ign and other judges as rule for those 90% judge 10% vote parts than players choice awards no one trusts ign but here they are deciding for a huge part more than player votes thats like cnn voting for best reporting 2024
I'm just watching for the world premiere trailers
I'd just watch a recap or summary after instead of wasting hours of my life watching Geoff keighley being cringe and trying to be a celebrity.
I think it's easiest to see that the Player's Choice is the Asian block voting while America and Europe didn't participate.
No, you're just delusional and refused to accept that Geoff Keighley has been fixing the game awards for almost a decade. People are delusional if they think that the player's voice was ever actually the player's voice.
I still can't believe gaming channels like this are falling for this nonsense. No weight should be given to anything done by Geoff Keighley.
@@MrMpa31but we are speaking of the popular vote here, thats on the players.
The market speaks louder than Twitter
Its gooners 😂
Dude even Spawnwave is noticing something is off lol
Geoffy gaslighting executives into thinking that service games are still the big thing.
They make more revenue then any paid games. So yea profit wise they are.
Gacha games who promise their players free rewards for voting and/or winning should be banned from the competition henceforth.
WTF… I DIDNT VOTE FOR ANY OF THOSE…. I voted for sh2
This is definitely showing the more casual audience that the Game Awards pull in that simply don't care about specifics of the awards and just want their one game or that really popular title that was kinda of a trend game almost
Elden ring didn't come out in 2024. It shouldn't be in that list
Genshin Impact didn't come out in 2024. It shouldn't be on that list.
Everything else is fine.
TGA is just Geogg Kinghtley's own vanity show about his fancy +$10000 sneakers, his unbridled love towards Sony and his eternal love for H.Kojima which he's going to engage with him.
He is not gonna make anything its players voice, genshin fanbase will mass vote and win been like that for years.
@ the Elden Ring DLC is a full diversion so people won’t get mad when black myth wins game of the year. LMAO
My hot take is these Chinese games probably shouldn't be nominated at all because they have an entire demographic that is restricted from playing other games and having a diverse perspective on them, skewing public votes like these.
Disappointed that Sonic X Shadow Generations didn't make it
The Sonic army is lost without it'ts general Chris Chan to rally the troops for stuff like this.
Bro john is devastated, me too man 😭
These kids are out here still playing Genshin Impact. I've been hearing about it since my kid was in middle school. He's about to graduate now.
who the hell let the casuals vote?!?!?! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I don't think SOTE should have been nominated for GOTY because it's a DLC, but I hope it wins because it'll be funny.
Same, i voted for just that very reason😂
I wonder how many people are going to watch it this year.
I'm not. Gonna keep my streak alive of not caring, nor watching. 😊 👍
Probably a lot. Never understood the hate for TGA, aside from the time they were cutting off dev speeches
Probably tons.
Nobody watches for awards. They watch for game announcements. (And steam deck giveaways)
The show is only good if you can find an entertaining streamer watching it to make fun of it.
The fact that GT7 always never gets nominated for on going support and community awards make the game awards a joke to begin with
Wuthering Waves is a gacha game from a smaller studio than Hoyo.
The Salt is so powerful in this coment.
Just say you hate china dude
Tldr
@FreakGeSt So I'm being salty for saying that that China had a massive when advantage when it came to voting in this year's player's voice? Make it make sense. The entire thing was region-based.
Tldr: dude hates china
More and more I see why Jeff has the split at 90-10
I think many people dont bother voting and just watch to see the results
China got 4/5 Nominations 🤣
Wuthering Waves is a really, really great game. It is a gacha game, but totally do not have to spend to enjoy the gameplay and story.
Making that game run decently on a phone must have been a herculean task
the combat, character animations/kits synergies are amazing, but the story is almost entirely slop. it's baffling how much better kurogames did writing in PGR and how none of it transpired into the next title of theirs
however, the devs have the courtesy to give you a skip button for basically every single dialogue so one you've read several sentences and have determined it's slop you don't have to waste your time on it any further. can't say the same for any hoyo game
These are casual gamers who probably don’t watch SpawnWave or were born after the year 2000😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 please have QUALITY CONTROL!!!
Sorry that people don't like what you like
@ no, did you read half the comments here? Most hardcore gamers don’t like these casual games😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣

TGA is becoming one of the worst things in gaming
I'm so tired of arguing with people about stuff that really doesn't matter. All I want from gotys is to pay the developers more respect, that's it.
The Gacha games do have the unfair advantage of offering players free content as celebration of a win, so it isn’t a fair comparison
Black myth better win this over 3x slot machine + 1x DLC.
Love the game of the year madness excited to see your are doing it again this year
Gacha games and whales hide the truth tbh
Gacha games are there because of the community, not because of the rewards. They give it just on the premise they even got nominated.
