    What a wonderful tutorial, thank you so much! I love the fact that you don´t just play the piece and show the fingering, but also explain the time signature, the chords which are used in this piece and the structure of it.

    Wonderful tutorial Julian, many thanks for your excellent pedagogical skills and obvious joy in bringing them to a wider audience. My teacher gave me this piece to learn so your tutorial makes a great compliment to her direct input. Personally I imagine this as skating on ice with the different sections gliding or spinning gentle turns - whatever works :) You have chosen to share your knowledge and the comments show you have impact in the jungle of what is available on YT, no small thing. Thank you.

    Hi Julian! Brilliant tutorial as always! Just a 'quick' question - I don't really understand why there are rest signs below the notes. Could you explain why perhaps? Would be much much appreciated!
    Thanks so much,
    Julia

      Ah, good question Julia. If we look at bar 1, we see 2 lines of music in the RH. The melody on the top (2 x held As) and an accompaniment (rest D, F, rest, D, F) so the rests are necessary in order to notate this 'alto' line in the RH. I find it useful to imagine the music being played by different instruments. Does that make sense?

    Great video again, Julian!
    I'd love to see you upload something on sight reading. It's something I've always struggled with, especially in an exam scenario

    • @JulianLambert
      @JulianLambert  3 года назад +7

      Me too! All my ABRSM marks were pulled down by my lousy sight-reading. The only way I got better at it was playing huge amounts of music. There were no short cuts ...I'm sorry to say, but we learn so much from playing through lots of music. Perhaps pick up some anthologies of easier music, play hymns, easier grade pieces ...keep going, don't stop, miss out a note or two if needs be but KEEP THE FLOW.

    Are you sure the left hand fingering is correct at 10 min in? G, D, Bb, G, D, G, G, D, Bb, G. Measure 9 and 10.

    How long do you think it would take for a grade 2 student to learn this piece? (And other pieces) I.e 1 wk, 2wk etc. thanks !

    Hello there! This is SMASHING and so helpful. Can I please ask about the sixth note on the bass clef in bars 9 and 10 though? Your version is so much easier to play than what's written. Is it OK to play these in an actual exam or would I lose hundreds of points? Thanks ever so!

    • @JulianLambert

      Well, it's not correct but, whose going to notice? 🤔

    Does it need to add the pedal? For 6 years old student?

  • @mayyad1979
    @mayyad1979 2 года назад +1

    I am struggling to get it to sound nice. On my electric piano it is not too bad, but when I try it on my acoustic, it sounds too loud and messy with the pedal. I am starting to get frustrated.

      As grade 2 pieces go, I think this is one of the easier ones although to play it as beautifully as Julian will take a lot of time and effort. Definitely something to aspire to, good luck 👍🏻
