Wow, just started to watch this retrospective. Mama D, at 86 is still beautiful and articulate and interviewer treated her with respect. This is an amazing retrospective with El on top of his game.

I’m a huge fan of Sis. Abney/Mama Dee... the love & closeness of El & her brings tears to my eyes...in spite of her age and “talk of damentia” she still loves God! I wish more artists would include their parents bcuz they really are the backbone of the family! A lot of negativity can always be found about Debarge, but If you don’t know the whole story, I just wish ppl would stop talking! Coming from the Christian background and church organization we come from, you’d understand why she married so young & why she stayed! I love you Mama Dee & you look good girl! El, I’m always a prayer away and I continue to pray for all of you... children and grandchildren included!
I love Debarge and I remember when Switch first came out and they will billed as the next Motown supergroup. But looking at this now, there is no way if they were just coming out that they would be stars because of how much things have changed. Think about it ... a bunch of guys with high voices singing love songs? Not them nor the Bee Gees would make it nowadays. But it's great to go back and I love it when those old groups tour. So many great memories and so many loves won and lost over the years with this type of music as a background. Love can feel good but as these songs point out there is also pain! El Debarge really digs in deep and hopefully todays music fans can appreciate it.
For her age, her singing voice. WOW, WOW, WOW. I plan for my lawyers to get into contact with El Debarge's agents, to have him sing at my oldest sons' wedding in Singapore. Maybe do investment talks with their life story movie.
Love that song teddy riley? El can sing anything and his mom s voice is flawless she’s the truth he’s very straight out in a lovely way! She loves god! She funny sweetheart a strong mom she went through so much God was her only strength! I’m amazed by her she taught all the kids to sing and it made them famous ❤️

Man be quiet. You don't know whole situation. During her situation in the 50s-70s there was no opportunity available for her to get out of that toxic situation. It was very unfortunate so didn't have no choice to stay and only rely on faith in god. Multiple times she called the cops on her husband for domestic violence and abuse and they did nothing to press charges against him since he was a white man so there was no win situation. She should of definitely try sued him for neglect, abuse, and rape but that would be so difficult as a black woman.
