Stagg Jr. Batch 15 Review! Compared to Batch 12 and GTS 2020!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 31 июл 2024
- The 15th batch is
bottled at 131.1 proof and is around 8 years old. As
usual Stagg Jr. is uncut, unfiltered just like big bother Stagg. But George T. Stagg is usually almost twice that age around 15 years old.
This is the new batch 15, and after the solid batches of 13 and 14, does 15 get us back to the greatness of batch 12? Let's review batch 15 and do some comparisons today on the Mash and Drum!

So i had never seen a bottle of Stagg Jr in a store locally. A couple of weeks ago I found a batch 15 in a little store I never go in for $119. Had to pull the trigger even though twice suggested retail. Still better than secondary. Last week I go into another store that I haven't been in for months and there is another bottle of 15 for $80. No brainer, had to get it too. I haven't tried it yet as I need to share my good luck with friends so will have to wait until we can gather safely. Thank you for the review! Your channel has become one of my touchstones on the tube.
Thanks John! Glad you found two of these. Im still searching for a backup. cheers!
You have a wonderful tasting ahead of you. IMO Batch 15 is a sensory overload in the best way possible. Your friends will love you.
I feel that, hunted for a bottle of Blantons to try. Searched for a yr only to miss it by seconds or see it for secondary price at a local store. So I go to one of my favorite liquor store and they have a bottle @ 105 ends up being 116. Ok pull the trigger, second guess myself. Now a week later go to the same store and score EH Taylor, and Stagg Jr. @ msrp. So that little more I spent on the Blantons got me the in on the other BT allocates items @ msrp.
@@kevinsorgi8473 what do you think of the blantons
@@LeatherDaddy97 Blantons is very delicate and floral, if that's what you like great ....wasnt a fan and wouldn't buy another bottle unless at retail just for collecting. Even then I'd probably think really hard about it so many other great bourbons in 50-70 range, for what I paid many more in the 80-120 range
I can’t wait to to find the 15! Hopefully it will show up here in GA this week. Great review. I loved the history lesson! 🥃
Just scored 2 B.15 this week. And excited to say they’re my first Stagg jr! Your review has me too excited to try this today; actually, pouring a sample to give to one of the managers that allowed me to buy it.
Awesome video, great review and comparisons. Love the history stuff. 15 sounds wonderful! I def loved 12. I know Stagg Jr. lands on shelves around here in Indy, but I've never been lucky enough to snag one.
Nice video, really enjoy the history to start it off. I got a batch 15 a couple weeks ago and agree, it’s fantastic!
Love your videos Jason, keep it up brotha! The nerd in me loved the history refresher!
Awesome review. Loved the history lesson as well. Looking hard for it.
Was having some last night. I can't front had to put a ice cube in it. Great bourbon!
Great video love history
I love the 15. Totally agree on the “dangerously easy to sip”. Such great balance on this one.
Love seeing Matt being the first comment on here, when are we going to get some whiskey reviews from ya?
Dude loved hearing the history!! You always do a kick ass presentation of the whiskey and history!!!
Just posted a video of a double blind one of my Patreons sent me. I knew it was Stagg from the first smell. When I tasted it I was BLOWN away by that berry note. I thought it was an older GTS I hadn't had. This might be my favorite Stagg Jr yet. That berry note is INSANE! Great review man!
Right!? Crazy
Love the history lesson Jason. You should pick iconic bourbons and do dedicated history videos on the origin of each one. Keep em coming!
Great Review J!!! Love the comparison between the batches. Ill hunt down a 15 before they dissappear lol. I appreciate the shout out my friend. Cheers buddy
Thanks Jason..great review. For me (although I can’t enjoy some of the bourbons you review,)you are really honest about the Ones I can. Thanks for the insight.
Great comparisons. I hope it comes to New England. Thx for helping me choose the Woodford dbl oaked bottle. I'm not great at tasting whiskeys but I tasted burnt marshmallows. It is smooth and then the belated finished hug.....as you put it. Thx again!
Gaaaah! Had a sample this past weekend...just insanely good. Your reviews have been gold and the Stagg Jr hype is going the way of Wellers. Here in CT found two bottles at $200 and $300 respectively. Can't swing that. But you cant argue with the damn good bourbon that is Batch 15.
I'm new to your channel & let me just say that I enjoy your videos & I'm also new to the good bourbon world & I'm learning..I have learned a lot from watching your stuff.. thanks for what u do..I got into the bourbon world because I'm a cigar smoker & they pair so well..I'm in awe of your palate..
Love the history with the review, plus great review
Dude, thank you so much for this review. I've been putting off hunting for Stagg Jr. since I picked up a batch 10 a couple years ago, which was meh. Stumbled on a couple at my local Costco today after watching this, and grabbed them for $39.99!
I have 12 and love it! Now to find 15! GA is hard unless you want to pay crazy secondary prices...may make a trip to KY this weekend to do some hunting! Love the show and loved the music kicking this vid off! Classy!
I love history. American and bourbon history are so intertwined. Appreciate the story behind the bourbon my friend
the always elusive Stagg Jr.. one day I'll get my hands on this one for retail 🙏🏽
Great history lesson, Jason! Your channel is the most educational. Love your videos. This one left me wondering: What’s an example of an overly sweet bourbon? Thanks.
I just acquired a bottle of batch 15 and I think the pop tart description fits perfectly. It was so easy to keep sipping.
Great stuff man, ill be on the lookout for this !
I love seeing my two favorite whiskey tubers using each other as a resource. Cheers!
Can't wait to try this. I just found it today at retail. Woo hoo!! I'm going to have a good Friday night.
Loved the video and great info! Nice history lesson :)
One day, I'll find it. Thanks for the details, sir!
A buddy of mine just won batch 15 didn’t even know it was out yet had batch 13 and 14 and agree with you wasnt their best...now i gotta find it thanks 🙏
Amazing history lesson and review!
I Whiskey She Wines sent me here, really like the history lesson of Stagg/EHT! Great video
The 15 is personally the best bourbon I have tasted. Absolutely in love!
Got bottle on Dec 18 of batch 15 was gone 3 days later with help from family. Delicious and best StaggJr ever had.
Lucked into this batch stopping by a local store-limit 1, $49.99, got the 2nd-to-last bottle. Love love love it. Yes, it’s potent, but it’s so easy to drink. I find it even more dangerous than ECBP.
I heard Buffalo Santa may be stopping by my local store Wednesday...hoping to get a bottle!
Now I really want this batch after your review! Uhhh secondary is gonna eat me alive again 😂😭
B15 just made it to my area. What a great bourbon and I was fortunate to get my hands on one! It was only slightly over retail too.
I was able to acquire a couple bottles of Batch #15 (at SRP!) back in March. My grocery store received a shipment which included some "held-back" stock(?!?). Crazy. Anyway, I dug it so much that I went back to grab a "backup". I gave it a 4.75/5.00. I got, "cherry-vanilla ice cream" from this bad boy.
@The Mash and Drum, Like I said on your live with Cline, Batch 15 is Batch 12 turned up to 11.
Love Stagg Jr. 14/15. I didn't get a chance to try 12 but 9 is my favorite.
Lol love your pop tart note!! You like that one.
My bottle of brimstone is keeping me warm here in Iowa, cheers
I can’t wait to try mine now. I loved my batch 12 and was so disappointed with batch 13. I reached for my ECBP and Larceny BP way more than my batch 13. Now that I found a batch 15, I’m going to polish my batch 13 lol. Random story, I went out to get pizza (dinner) for my family and made a random stop at a local liquor store. I was actually there to pick up some Jack Daniels Single Barrel since I heard so much hype about and on my way out I looked in the back shelf and saw a Stagg Jr. I asked the worker how much it was and waited for him to tell me some ridiculous price. I looked up what batch it was and he told me it was $119. I said alright, I spent the same amount of money on worse... So glad that I bought it though. The dude behind the counter practically put it in my hands and told me to buy it or else someone else would lol. 🥃
Snagged one today. So good! Made my day for sure.
Was able to snag a bottle this afternoon. Delicious stuff.
*Great video*
So spot on with your notes
Honestly, when batch 14 had time to open up with some some air I thought it was the best batch yet. Can’t wait to try 15!
Just picked this up today cant wait to pop it
“Nerd Alert!” 😆 Love it Jason that’s why we’re all here! I personally really notice a change in Stagg Jr after it’s had time to open up. I drink them down 1/4 and forget about them for a few months. They always get better over time in my opinion. Have you noticed them change considerably? 🥃
Yeah they definitely change. Not sure I let them last long enough though. Lol
Wish me luck finding it! Cheers!
Recently drank a bottle of batch 7 I'd been sitting on for a few years. It drank hot not one of my favorites. Love batch 12 and every GTS I ever had. Cheers!
Not feeling so bad about paying well over MSRP now for the two bottles of batch 15 I scooped up. At $100ea, I second guessed scooping them up, but I just couldn't walk away from them....I rarely see them sitting out on a shelf.
Just got one! Gonna hold it for awhile before I pop it!
The guy nailed it for me. I had the privilege this evening of tasting with friends Pappy Van Winkle 15, Rare Bird (Wild Turkey), Blandons Original, and my bottle of Stagg Jr 15. It was a contest of wonderful sips. Pappy took the prize, Stagg Jr got second, and I def agreed with the Créme Brûlée flavor note as that’s what i said to my friends. I did not get the strawberry fruit notes, but my palate and nose are not as refined. This was a blast of a bourbon
Can't wait to try this one for myself because there's so many conflicting opinions on this batch 15. It seems reviewers either say it's the best batch of the last several recent ones or the worst
I have yet to open my Stagg 2020. I’m waiting for covid to end so I can enjoy it with friends.
I got too deep into a store pick new riff one night and bought a bottle of this at secondary... after trying it, I regret nothing.
My son literally asked me if we could get a handheld burner to sear salmon and tuna and... wait for it... finish off creme brûlée... I was like, wait a second, I just had some recently... But I hadn’t, it was the flavors off the Stagg Jr. that had left an indelible impression.
Got the 15 love it. Would you review some Japanese whiskey. I am curious about it
Was able to get a bottle of Stagg Jr., it only took a yr of hunting hard to find it. Now I'm scared to open cause if its really good it's not going to last. Hell the A121 ECBP I got is already 3/4 gone. Going to need to find another one asap.
Found a bottle of this in a hole in the wall liquor store right off Hwy 1 in Fort Bragg, CA. Haven’t opened it yet.
Never know what you’ll find in those weird little stores no one pays any attention to.
Love batch 15!!
That stuff is amazing man
so glad we got to try it for the first time. We were both equally amazed.
Retail for Stagg Jr. in Ohio is just under $47. I went to GE this morning and for the hell of it checked to see what they got this morning. Since I got there 2 hours after they opened I wasn't expecting much but Eagle Rare had been going around this week.
They got Stagg Jr. I couldn't fucking believe it. The woman said she had one more bottle and sold it to me. I literally never thought I'd ever be able to get a bottle but I randomly happened upon it lol...
AZ seems to have been way under allocated on batch 15. But I need to start drinking more before I buy more bottles haha.
I hear ya on that one.
Seems like with the sweetness the best ECBP to compare it to would be B520 with his sweetness over the salty peanut of C920.
Just bought 2 bottles of batch 15 for $70 feel like I won a lottery and can’t wait to try this.
Would you ever consider a cross over review comparing tequila expressions of corazon: George T Stagg, Old Rip Van Winkle, Buffalo Trace and Sazerac Rye to see how similar they are to their couter part whiskeys? I would be interested to see that comparison from a whiskey drinker.
Doing a 14 v 15 right now while watching. Keeping me warm on a cold night in Ohio 🔥 🥃
got 12 & 14, couldn't find 15 was hard to find this year
Thanks for another great review Jason. Now, is it worth calling in sick and driving three hours round trip for some Stagg Jr?😀🤔🤔🥃🥃
Ummmm...yup
Saw a bottle of batch 15 at my liquor store at $200. Had to pass. But great review! Also, I appreciate the history lessons from your videos.
How does Batch 15 compare with E.H. Taylor barrel proof?
My local store is running an auction on this and I’m winning so far, it ends soon so hopefully I land this bottle!
Hope you didnt pay anything crazy
just scored a bottle!
Great batch. Will you be reviewing batch 16?
I'm curious what you think about batch 9. I like it more than 12 each time I blind them. perhaps that is just my palate. I will have to do this same flight but blind with batch 9 instead of 12. Or maybe just add the 9 to it.
9 is one of my favorites too. Need to go back to it. It was similar to 12 for me from what I remember
@@TheMashandDrum I was lucky enough to have a few bottles of the 9. perhaps less people were chasing it at that time. I think there's one left in the closet. If you're out and need a sample, LMK.
So in your comparison with Batch 12 ( which I’ve never had but would be happy take a sample off your hands;) Is it a tie? Or do you have a winner? I got Batch 15 this Christmas! Glad I did!
I like the 15 but can see myself going to the 12. The 15 is sweeter.
How can u tell which batch u got
Found a stagg jr in my area but it’s $129. Is it worth that kind of money?
I called this in your top 2020 bourbon videos. Not sure why it didn’t make it. Released dec 2020.
I didn't get it until last week.
Is there any where on the label that tells which batch it is ? I have a bottle from may be 5-6 years ago but not sure which batch it is
You know what batch it is by the proof. Look up stagg jr batches online and you will find a list.
@@TheMashandDrum thanks
Store by me has it for $199. Should I buy it?
I can't tell if that's a William Larue Weller lamp or if there is a lamp directly behind the WLW bottle
It's a WLW lamp.
@@TheMashandDrum Thanks for the reply. The lamp is awesome! Heard you were in Ohio. I'm just down in Lexington, KY, and would love to host you for a drink next time you're in the area!
Perhaps do a blind, batches 12-15. They could’ve opened up plus there’s no partiality
So whats the most you would pay if you found it?
100-120. Love this batch.
Great review...alas Stagg Jr is like Blantons around here....a year ago i could find it all the time...now...zip, zero, nada.
I always have to go out of state to find these.
@@TheMashandDrum Appreciate you doing the hunting and reviewing! Of course it always makes me thirsty..hahahahaha.
So for about the same secondary price... Would you pick this or the JD Rye!!?
Wow. Hmmm... probably the stagg. But it's really a mood thing. I can reach for either of those at any time
@@TheMashandDrum ok glad I wasn't the only thinking on the same path there!
I was fortunate to snag 3 bottles at retail. Will hopefully be enjoying batch 15 for a while
Drinking Stagg Jr 15 while you talk about it. This has to be a simulation
You need to do a tasting head to head with Elijah Craig barrel proof B520.
Would like to see that too
Gotta add ECBP C920 if that happens!
It's like comparing red vines and beef jerky.
I like 14 but you do have to let it get some air.... Swirl and I get all the yummy flavors but is hot out the bottle
I hope it's worth a $162 because that's what I found it for and I had to get 2
Up there just behind Batch 9. Batch 9 still the reigning king, but 15 is runner up.
This is my favorite drink, but I cannot find it anywhere.
Did I miss the blind of batch 14, EHT BP and GTS 20?
No that will probably be the blind tasting soon.
@@TheMashandDrum sweet, been waiting for that.
Always 12
Pick up 5 bottles of batch 15 I was in shock when I saw so many in stock
"Dangerously easy" - yep, that's what happens when it seems like candy. You end up ECBP'd and #StaggJRDrunk. Be careful and #StayVertical...
Lmao. Yeah. Need to watch this stuff. Lol
Yeah that A121 ECBP is dangerous and gets even deadlier the more that bottle opens up....absolute killer
