    This is completely brilliant, I did not realize you could remove the suction strainers without the pool water draining out when you loosen the fitting on the outside. This solved the biggest problem I've had and I didn't need the blue adapter - there was a threaded adapter and stepped hose fitting that came with my pool. Thanks so much!

    when you put the stopper in the left pump intake and it has a larger hole than normal, it lets more water in that way INSTEAD of the vacuum hose side. That means you have less suction on the vacuum attachment, not more. Not trying to flame, just trying to point that out for others. My pool came with actual stoppers that completely shut off one side when you are vacuuming.

    • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  5 лет назад

      I had one stopper that came with a small hole for vacuuming. I tried with a complete stopper one time. If you have a clog your pump won’t like it. Just what works for me.

    Nice setup, I need to check out your other videos on how you set up that pump and everything. We have the 12' Ultra Frame pool which came with a super weak 530 gph cartridge filter pump. Just upgraded to the 1500 filter pump last night, plus added a surface skimmer and seems to work amazing at keeping the water surface clean.
    One thing, the skimmer came with that little gray cap with the little hole to put onto the 2nd strainer grid. The instructions for the skimmer say that it's needed to get enough suction at the skimmer for it to work properly. I plan to keep it on there, but you don't think it would make the pump work too hard do you? If I didn't have the skimmer I wouldn't have that little restrictor piece on the other inlet.

    • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  6 лет назад

      Patrick94GSR it should be fine. I plugged one of my inlets with my old filter because the skimmer absolutely would not work without it.

    • @Patrick94GSR
      @Patrick94GSR 6 лет назад

      Yeah I tried removing the little cap last night, and the skimmer wouldn't work without it. The floating basket raised up maybe 1/4 inch, just enough so that the water couldn't go in. I put the cap back on and the basket sunk back down 1/4 inch and water (and surface junk) could flow in once again.

    • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  6 лет назад

      Patrick94GSR another thing I figured out: make sure there is no air trapped under the lip of the blue floating part. Dunk it in the water inside the basket a bit before you set it.

    • @Patrick94GSR
      @Patrick94GSR 6 лет назад

      well I found a piece at a pool store for 3 bucks that would let me attach a pool hose to that blue cap piece that came with the skimmer. Tried to vacuum with it that way but my 1500 cartridge pump didn't sound like it liked it too much. Plus I don't really like the idea of pulling in junk off the bottom of the pool into my filter cartridge. Oh well, I'll just keep vacuuming using the siphoning method. Works great after a rain when I need to remove some water from the pool anyway. Otherwise I only lose a couple of inches and will just put it back with the garden hose if I need to.
      Next task is to close it down for winter, using a tarp that I hope will stay in place for the next 6 months.

      I bought a brand new intex sand filter this year. And it threw sand into my pool from the get go. After exchanging sand 3 times to no avail. We bought a micro leaf net. It's small enough to catch dead algae and pollen. We taped it over the entire bottom filter part just to stop the sand from escaping. 3 weeks after we bought it, this finally got it to work with no sand being thrown back into the pool. Backwashing still works perfect. So far so good. It was basically useless til this simple fix

      I drilled the grid material out with a narrow step drill bit. You want to get rid of all of that grid or it will get clogged with the junk you are vacuuming out of your pool. You are essentially creating a "tube" that goes directly into your intake hose then your filter.

    Are you using an aftermarket pump? Doesn’t sound like an original lol. I bought my kid a 10’ quick set last year and a storm took it out this year. Saved the pump and through wall fittings because I’m a pack rat. Bought a 14x43 Coleman Power Steel pool as a replacement and it has the same weird kind of fittings as yours. But I watched your video and got really excited at the possibility of legitimately vacuuming my pool without the need of a garden hose powered vac. Sadly the fittings from my old pool are different. Going to search around for replacement fitting I can use to make this! But for now my garden hose powered vac will do, I use a 1/4 horse sump pump so I don’t have to put more water in the pool

      TheRandykiser I had a maintenance contract at a local hotel for about 9 years and learned a lot about pools doing so. Sand filters are super low maintenance when it comes to parts. As far as I know, sand only need replaced every 4-5 years. I’m working on a diy one with a black 33 gallon drum. Hoping it will act as a semi solar heater, Iowa’s weather is all over the place lol. Also on my 3rd prototype pool skimmer. As much as skimming a pool with a net is very zen like, I’m sick of doing it lol.

      @@TheRandykiser oh ok. We have the original basic filter system that came with our 22'x52" Coleman Swim Vista 2. Kinda hard to find sand pumps atm, or even pools for that matter, thats why we settled on the one we did. We bought a little round skimmer thing that hangs over the lip. • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  4 года назад

      Mikey Rast maybe you could take out the filter, close the unit back up and disconnect the pool return hose and just vacuum, letting the water be evacuated as waste. This would save your filter essentially using it as a vacuum pump to suck debris and water out of your pool. You would have to plug the pool return outlet in the pool to keep from losing too much water. Then just top off you water level when done vacuuming.

      John Smith that's right. Adds a step but you don't waste as much water and the big stuff still ends up in the basket.

    I don’t understand how the pool is being vacuumed when the other end of the hose wasn’t attached to anything?

    • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  5 лет назад

      xBlackMermaidx it’s attached to the pool inlet.

    How did you put up a power switch on your wall?

    • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  4 года назад

      It’s a timer. Just plugged in an extension cord to an outlet then to the timer, then to the pump/filter.

  • @hmarie2494

    Could you connect the vacuum hose directly to the filter?

      @randykiser2201 Год назад +1

      Absolutely but its a little more work in my opinion. But it would be just as effective.

    I'm in Australia and laughing at how we have the same challenges with the same products. Why one of these pool companies does simply make a 2 way switch into the pump puzzles me. They would sell a bunch easy.

    • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  7 лет назад

      Koo Baa I took my first pool down for the winter so I don't know. I may try it and see. I would be afraid the cold temps may weaken the vinyl and not hold up during the next swim season.

      Definitely put it away for winter if it's a bestway or intex and clean and dry it before you do. It'll last way longer. Mines 10 years old and still looks pretty new

    When you vacuum the pool where does all the trash go ? I have a stock pool filter and recently got a vacuum and i have no idea where do connect it too

    • @TheRandykiser
      @TheRandykiser  4 года назад

      Surphe XBL it just depends what kind of filter you have. A sand filter traps the material in the pre-filter basket and the sand, to be emptied or backwashes later. Filter cartridge systems will just trap the trash in the filter. You may want to bypass the filter all together and just empty the water as waste as you vacuum, then top off the pool water level.

      amandeep kour what Pump/filter are you using? If it’s the stock unit that comes with the pool you may have trouble. Not enough suction.

      Isela Perez you may want to have your water tested for mustard algae. Looks just like dirt in the bottom of your pool. You have to treat it.
