Lego Technic Compact Steering, Drive and Suspension Unit (with Instructions)

- Опубликовано: 29 сен 2024
- Hi! Welcome to my latest video, a compact, (if not the most compact out there) steering, suspension and drive unit made entirely fro m lego technic! In fact, it is that small that there is only 1 stud between both suspension arms. This allows (with the wheels shown in the video), a total width of 18 studs, which as most of you probably know, is not very big! Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the video.

Thanks for watching :D and don't forget to subscribe, like and so whatever else you guys do!
This design seems to have little trouble with steering ....
Hothrik Arya how
@@Lemzipnorth Observe the suspension arms at 1.27 . As he is steering the wheels, the suspension arms are bending. Over a time of use, I don't know if it can result in any serious damage but some damage is sure to be seen like weakening of parts.
It seems so. I built this model, and found steering bent the parts. I like this model which only uses very traditional parts but it's certainly challenging to have driving, steering and suspension altogether.
@Jofuss The conqueror Exactly. Also, the steering arms are bent while turning, see at 1:27
I am building it anyway, just using it for a model which is meant to be in a shelf for most of the time and could show that it has some “functions” if someone asks for it lol
This is the best compact design I've ever seen... Thank you for making this!!! Absolutely amazing
AK 47 thank you! 😀👍
I’ve made better. It’s just about getting my ass to do it again.
i modified it to have longer suspension travel so its more suitable for crawlers or that kind of builds. nice
Thanks so much for the tutorial it helped me a lot!
Very cool build
He uses the rarest lego piece☠️
I see a big problem. The Cross joint is not in line with the steering angle.
The thing is that the pivot point of steering differs from the pivot point of the CV Joint. And steering arms touch the suspension frame.
I've assembled this thing and it doesn't work.
I'm impressed by the flexibility of this model! I wish that I could build as good as you. :-)
Polish Polandball wow! Thanks!!😋😋👍
this could be used for rear wheel steering in a small car with dual driveshafts
It's so small ! good job !
antoine ddp thank you!! ;-)
Great job man!
It doesn't have suspension. It has a bottomed out spring without any dampening.
actionmethod in what way????
Real dampers can't be built of lego yet. This is as good as it gets. :)
ThinkCleverAndSmart yeah, that's what I thought... 😉👍👍
what is the u shaped peice in the instructions?
I love lego
me too!
soooooo where are the instructions??
Nice ...is there a generic lego technics kit that can be purchased to build suspensions like this? Thanks
Thanks! Sadly there isn’t one that I know of, however you can purchase the pieces individually from a website called BrickLink!
@@allaboutlego1540 OK ...that is sad. I have never worked with the lego stuff...but I wanted to use it to mock up things I would create full size.
Frets Nirvana in that case you could buy any kit with suspension in it as there are plenty out there - just not with my specific design
Tutorial plis
Pleas ..make an List with every Stone you yous
Arne Kleffmann a parts list can be found in the instructions (click the link in the videos description)
U can post th insturaction of it?
Yotam Bs instructions are in the description... 👍👍
Thanks
Где инструкция?
No differential - crappy steering.
The compact radius makes it actually good for rear wheel steering
Using that ball joint tie rod system, you can get more steering angle by shortening the rods coming out of the steering knuckle. The way you have it makes it easier to turn and maintain an angle, though.
Cars Simplified I know, already tried that before uploading this video, but it didn't work, as it was impossible to fit a wheel on, without it falling of straight away. That's why I have done it how it is done in this video. 😉👍👍
Since this video was made, I have actually made some improvements to how far this unit steers (I won't make a new video, but you will see it in some of my up-coming MOC'S) 😋😋😋
Pls tell me where can I buy this
All About Lego answer
EAJ 02 as it says in the video, the link to instructions is in the description.
All About Lego I only see the front suspension instructions
EAJ 02 aren’t they the instructions that match this video? But if you did want more, then just click on the large title at the top of the website which says ‘The Building Block Blog’, and it should take you to more instructions!
i really need this but im not finding all what it needs :c even tho i know i have them
edit: and i have no clue how long sticks it needs there kinda no way to know it
Omg, I can't thank you enough for making this vid! I was literally LOOKING for this! 😁😁😁😁
GUYS DID YOU KNOW IF YOU SPIN EACH WHEEL IT TURNS
tutorialllllll!!!!!!! plz
There is one in the description it's the moc, a pdf file
WHAT AM I EVEN DOING HERE? I DON'T EVEN OWN LEGO! WHY HAS RUclips RECOMMENDED THIS TO ME? I CAN'T EVEN START TO TELL YOU HOW ANGR - OHHH NICE SUSPENSION...
EricH1983 haha😂 thank you very much!
please could you make the instructions ???👃
Asagggh! I've been looking for this for so long! THANK YOU!
One thing that confuses me and disappoints me is why don’t Lego use the wishbone from 8165 and 8880 for the steering, it just seems a awful lot better than the 5 hole beams etc, after building the Chiron and Sian each corner of the car seems far to complex to the point that it’s ugly and far from clean aesthetic, 8880 simple clean upper and lower wishbone track rod/steering arm and hub, clear clean and simple
anyone else has a problem with steering? like when the steering stops on the five? I have a simple fix, replace the five with a three ( the axil circle axil one.) the drive might not be as good but it turns better. hope it helps!
Hey, does this system function with the power functions rc set (small motor + sensor) so if you release the lever/joycon will it co back to natural?
Thank you for the information . A very nice tutorial, I will use it . By the way I’ve build a lego technic car, and will be very happy if you look at it .
Is that it in your pic
The universals arent in the same axis that the wheels steer on .
Plz remember me one you're a really big RUclipsr
Ps that's really cool
And did you win that BMW contest? Hope you did
Brick by Brick thanks!! (Lol, I will) and I got runner up prize in the BMW contest! 😜👍👍
All About Lego can I plz get an link to the video?
Brick by Brick what video?
@@allaboutlego1540 did you remember him?
Here's a narrower version: ruclips.net/video/_p4_VPCKUnk/видео.html
I watched this video about a hundred times for inspiration btw, wouldn't have made it without it :)
I know in a little late😂😂 but I just made it but I modified it to not have independence suspension then I used it on a tiny monster truck😊😊
Yes it has Steering, Drive and Suspension, but the turning radius isnt great and theres a lack of a diff.
thanks, man... BUT can you please make this into a car? but not too hard
Well, this steering system is bending the whole thing... is there any solution to take away that half-stud wide, four studs long bar?
BL-10 et HE ! -Tumbler73- yes! I made some improvements to it once I had made the video, including removing that, so it is a lot better now! 😀👍
All About Lego Oh great! Is there anywhere i can see how it is now?
BL-10 et HE ! -Tumbler73- I am uploading a video at some point of a car I have built using this suspension, you should be able to see from that video 😉😉👍👍
All About Lego Awesome, i subscribe not to miss it :D
BL-10 et HE ! -Tumbler73- thank you!! 😉😉👍👍
I need a turning mechanism that uses common pieces cuz I don’t have weird lego pieces
very simple,impressive,compact,and inspiring (FANTASTIC)
shadow fight 2 Thank you! I am glad you like it!! 🙂🙂👍👍
Would you happen to know the size of the long Lego technic axels?
This is really good.....
But, i can't even stick 2 bricks together.
lol
Thank you👍
Who knows what the part number is for the piece he used for steering?
Should've put springs horizontally on top of the assembly, make a 90 joint like a formula suspension would.. makes space for a differential and larger steering rack. But it doesn't have the same suspension travel.
You could use the two drive inputs for skid steer as well as the rack and pinion, then the model would turn even better than any vehicle. Interesting design! :)
The Lego Garage hmmm.. I suppose you could, but this is for more of a 'realistic' way of steering. And thanks!! 😜👍
My only problem is, the lack of parts :’((((
very neat design! your videos are just getting better and better :)
Dgustafsson13 thank you!! I am glad you like it! It means a lot 😊😊😊
You are also a genius man I'm following you from the very beginning ❤️
Great design, keep it up :)
Thanks!
Man, you’re crazy, the unit is genius! So compact but so functional! And the music… 😍 You made my day! I’m proud of you! Keep going forward! Have a nice day 🌆
Thanks for 800 subs!!!! 😉😜👍😉👍
Come on, let's be real a LEGO car that compact isn't going to weigh that much, give it realistic suspension.
can it be make remote control with powered up?
I was finally able to build this using the instructions from the link and it came out awesome! I’m trying to incorporate it into a Lego RC project I’m working on
Should I use this on my Ferrari 488 Pista that I’m making.
Go for it!😁😉👍
Thanks
Nice Suspension but I think the steering radius is too low. But if you modifyt it you can use it for suspension at the back of a lego car.
This is really awesome!! Something I suggest is to make the drive a single input then splits with a differential. This is how they work on cars.
Thank you! And yes you are right, that would be a better setup than the one in the video, (and it would work) however I did try it before coming to the solution you see in the video, and it ended up being quite big, so would be pointless for small compact cars. 😉👍👍
All About Lego oh I see. Still pretty awesome.
Diego Zambrano thanks! 😉👍
I don't have shock absorbers so I used rubber bands
No the radius is ridiculously terrible.
parazels83 ok, please tell me how to improve it! 👍👍
All About Lego I have no idea. Maybe your scale and functions don't let make good steering.
Actually this is often an issue even in larger models when using amortization.
parazels83 yes, you are right, it is very tricky at this scale, especially when you have drive and suspension as well!😉👍👍
All About Lego the problem with the steering is that the center point of the wheel is not aligned with the u-joint's middle. Otherwise o don't think it would not be that bad, also you can increase the length of the beam (the secondary steering option for the people who didn't have the special bar with ball joints) by one and it would have been better, and still compact
This is like 15 euro fucking exüensive
Mine didn’t turn as well as yours and I used the second method. Any suggestions on how to fix it?
Awesome video!I love the way the text shows up,how it presents the creation and the music fits perfectly. Well done!
Norbert Kelemen thank you! I am glad you like it 😝😉👍
The pivot point has to be aligned with the pivot point of the U-Joint. Using CV joints would be better here.
Can you do instructions to this axel
Vilmer Eriksson it already has instructions! (You can find a link to them in the description) 😁👍
1:49 my steering is not working so well. The rotation is not much
Damn Cat exactly. I can’t call that steering
Nice, it's a 3in1 package!
Awesome Suspensions me too builds suspensions from Lego Technic (:
I was looking for a compact suspension idea, so that I can incorporate it to either a wagon or a stroller, so that I can use it as a bicycle trailer. Thanks
use a differential system for the drive, it is single input dual output.
seb Trotman that would be the best way of doing it - but my aim here was to make it as small as possible, and adding a differential would make it at least 2 to 4 studs longer. So that’s why I used this method :D
Great engineering! U should be engineer
Why would even have suspension?
I mean its not the real world plus the lego cars are not that heavy so there no reason to add it.
Have I done anything wrong ? The radius is like 1° for me...
Очень редкая зубчатая рейка, такую сейчас не найти и при поворотах вся конструкция "играет", надо добавлять жесткость.
Instructions please
Plamen Trifonov there is a link to them in the description! :D
I have EV3, how can I make the small motor return to center when I'm not inputting on the controller?
La que yo invente es mucho mejor
looks too flimsy and doesn't seem very compact without a differential, but i like the idea of using those U shaped pieces to guide and hold the drive for each wheel.
12171010011010 technically it does have a differential, because both of the wheels can be independently connected to a motor, which allows them to turn at different speeds. 😀👍👍
well if you have two different motors sure, but with such a small design they would take a lot more space than just one. With your design if you have two motors for drive you still need another for steering, unless you work out a way for both motors to control steering together, which would be hard.
12171010011010 it is not impossible, the Mg Metro 6R4 rally car you see in the video uses this suspension setup, with two L-Motors, a Servo motor, and two AAA battery boxes, and it still has room for an interior, and is relatively small... 😉👍👍
nice work, my mini trial truck has smaller driven and suspended front steering mechanism. your design is nice also ☺
Green Gecko Lego Technic Creations thanks!! It has, although isn't yours a live axle and not independent? 😀👍
Not much steering lock on it
could it be that there is a slight flaw in the steering mechanism?
The cross joint is offset by 1 stud to the pivot point. this means that the joint is not just folding when steered, but moving. this movement can only be allowed if there is one more joint an each side AND accepting the fact the axle between these two, would move axially (i.e. the joints would slide apart and together slightly).
Yes, you are correct - it has been a few years since I made this and I honestly can’t remember why I ignored the fact that the Universal joints were offset from the pivot point. However, looking back at this design now I think it would be possible to swap out the universal joints for some other Lego CV joints which would move the two pivot points together, hence removing the flaw in the system that you mentioned? Thanks for your comment!
What size is the steering axle
Tip add peice numbers to the instructions.
Tip add peice numbers to the instructions
Nice can you make it With air
So essentially you placed portal gears pretty much as the hummer,’s
make a in instruction video
Instructions on how to use it but not build, though it looks like one could build it from images.
For the instructions, click on the link in the description of this video - which should take you to my blog. Then In the first paragraph there is a link you can click! :D
@@allaboutlego1540 Ah. I was referring to the video itself.
The_Human-Wither ahh, ok, well at least you know how to find them now
Wheres the differential....?
Looks kind of like my ideas in my channel
Critycal oh yeah, never noticed that, I suppose it does 😊👍
do you have a video with this on a full car ?
Yes - check out my MG Metro 6R4, it uses a slightly improved version of this
Can you do that with FADY? I have trouble dealing with it
Thanks soo much for the design it is perfect for the ford mustang moc I am building. Also which of your mocs did you use the upgraded one in I would love to make it.Thanks
Sorry I found the video and have now uphrafed it. Works perfect well done
this is good! But I think the steering would have to be replaced because the whole thing is bending like hell.
Jeff Girouard thanks! Which part do you mean is bending? 🤔👍
when you turn the steering wheel, it makes every piece bend
Jeff Girouard I didn't notice that to be honest, but I did improve the steering (which you can see in my latest video)
The clearance to the bottom is not sufficient. The rest is fine.
Nice work!
- I tried to make a 'good' car on my channel, not nearly as good as yours :)
Still Thinking thank you! I am sure yours is great too👍
Omg thanks for this comment. I wanted to try making the one in this video but I dont have the parts in this model so I went to your channel and yours has the parts I have so I just combined them both and made mine
