This is one of the most inspirational videos I have ever seen. For real, I have something to aspire and work to. Hope one near future I have my modest set up as clean and practical as you have show us it can be. Thanks
to cool the room look at a "ductless Mini Split" unit. the better ones are super quiet, energy efficient, and don't look bad. there would be an outside unit which mounts on the ground (or Wall) which is also quiet and a line set from that to the inside unit so you only have a small hole in the wall. the power to the inside unit comes from the outside unit so no wiring issues in your studio. They also come with a remote control to control the fan and temperature! so you can turn it off if necessary when you record. Some come with heat options if you need that in cold weather.
Thirty-six minutes and thirty seconds of pure awesomeness Kevin! thanks for sharing, I have learned so much and I hope to use the knowledge to advance organizing my video production area to be a place more conducive to getting work done in a more efficient manner. Cheers bro, keep the good stuff coming! 😎
Perfect timing Kevin as my next week Stay At Home project is to reorganize, tightly up wiring, and work on set lighting positions that are remotely controlled. Looking to combine three areas into one. Your very detailed walkthrough has my creative juiced in overdrive. Like you, line power any day over battery power. Thanks for the info.
I can never imagine a stage in my life stable enough to be able to do this for myself. Was great to see this! It's like a bat cave for a film maker. I am also a drummer and quite particular when it comes to cable management haha.
Great setup, I’m in the process of making my first at home studio learned some and confirmed some ideas I was working over, also have learned that once organized to keep it that way I can never make an accuse to not put stuff back where it belongs as soon as I get finished, once’s one starts down the path of ‘getting to it later’ all will be lost to the dark shadow of clutter and disorganization. To bad it took me a half of century to figure it out.
Where did you get those wonderful toys lol Love the set up I need help with mine I’m trying to use my camera setup Can’t figure out how to get it into the computer.
I did the sound blanket thing too. Will you hang it from hooks on the ceiling. But then I discovered a better way, I’m looking at your set up right now it will work perfect. You can get one of those pull up bars that you put in between doorways and hang it in between the top of the stairs from one jam to another, they have oversized carabiners that you could use to go over the pull-up bar, and then use those carabiners to go through those brass I hope you have. That gives you the opportunity to set it down and you don’t have to worry about drilling into studs drilling into your drywall doing any kind of anchors. Because those blankets can get kind of heavy, and trying to do anything outside of drilling into the studs, you run the risk of it ripping through the drywall. Anyway, great video. Just my two cents.
I hate you Mr Clean! Now I feel like I need to clean the house. 😉 Did like the idea of pressing it power cords under the baseboards. Hadn't thought of that, but it will definitely help clean things up. Great setup Kevin, enjoyed the tour.
Yep. My thing was trying to handle ANYTHING that got in my way of production, no matter how seemingly little. There was a lot, and now there is a surprising feeling if freedom and not having things get in my way. Walk in, produce what was intended, clean up, next. Mr. Clean? Yeah...slowly working towards that bald head. 😂
That was a great video. Thank you! I may as well invest in that phone stabiliser you use...looks good to me! Congratulations again on your RUclips award! 😎🤟🎥
Yoou bet! The Movi Cinema Robot? I love this thing - couldnt' find it anywhere or I would have linked it. If you find one somewhere please do let me know.
Kevin, Your A.C. problem. I just solved the same problem you are have by using... "AC Infinity CLOUDLINE Quiet Inline Duct Fan with Temperature Humidity Controller." Their on Amazon. Depending on you heat duck they have 4, 6, and 8 inch. They are programmable and probably the best I've found. You'll still need to choke back some of the feeds to other parts of your house, but they really helped my situation. Also, there is a formula they use for square feet and tonnage of your Air unit. You may want to check that out as well. Also, the room temp varies depending on how/when you have lots of lights on. -keith
Nice setup. I use the same headphones.....I use Canon g30 camcorder and ninja 1 atomos recorder. I would add a wire to wall to secure that tripod incase someone bumps into it and you 3000 camcorder falls to the ground.
Yep. Fortunately the monopod is awesome, and it is very rare anyone is in that area. Even the lady who cleans stays away, so I'm usually good, plus, it's rigged so I can quickly release and go, although I like your idea, some QR to the wall. Thanks.
I always thought the brick background was a green screen. Its way easier in post to edit non green screen footage as to key out the video and producing a alpha channel and bringing the green screen footage back into davanci resolve to actually edit in smooth real time takes awhile. So your saving a ton of time in the editor without the green screen. Also no bulky bank lights.
Totally right. I got away from green screen, although I've done it a lot, for this setup, it's way easier to just throw a backdrop behind me, and it looks legit.
I still have the 8 x 8 green screen. I don't use it anymore but it is by far the best one I've ever used. I want to sell it but i keep thinking I might need it one day.
As for the a.c. issue, look into a mini split unit. YOU will not have to rip your house apart to install it. As for an a.c. being quite? Don't think that is going to happen.
Pretty funny story. When I got the ATEM I realized I needed a stand. My wife happened to have an iPad stand she never uses, tried that, and works great. Have searched everywhere and can't find it, or something like it.
Kevin, I'm really impressed with your review. Just when I thought I had bought everything I needed, you managed to help me spend a few hundred more. W.T.H., I knew I saved my stimulus money for something! Seriously, I went down the list and it was very helpful. There's two things I couldn't find on the list... 1) the 34" monitor, 2) your brand of toilet paper. lol. I know with your sense of humor the T.P. comment would give you a chuckle:-) I think a great video would be reviewing the kind of profits that come from the sales of the referred items. That part was extremely organized and well done. Thanx, -keith
Oops! It was mislabeled. 6:50 Alienware Laptop amzn.to/3gyoIEf should say monitor. The T.P is way more expensive than the monitor. :) Sales of the items? You mean the affiliate links?
@@BasicFilmmaker Affiliate links. Yes that's what I mean. Damned I couldn't think of the word when I was writing the comment. I'm 77 so I give myself a "little'" forgiveness for the memory thing! Uh, what were we talking about? Oh yes, the monitor! -magic keith
Nice setup. Are you taking the stereo out of your mixpre and going into your camera? Isn’t that line to mic level? What advantage does the 4K camera give you going into the mini pro?
Stereo out to cam. Yep. Line level on camera. Not really an advantage 4K into ATEM at all. 1080 works just as well. The real trick is to use OBS and have it upscale the signal to 4K with ceratin settings. It's cheating.
I use a Mitsubishi mini split to cool my office. Half my house is an addition and it wasn’t designed with the initial air-conditioning system so the mini split solves that problem very well and I didn’t notice any rise on my electric bill. Note it is very quiet I had a recent installation estimate for a 2nd unit @ $2900.00 may have gone up in the past few months...
Thank you for showing your upstairs setup. B4 my Mom moved in (following my Dad's passing) I had 3 rooms to video in. Family comes first, now I have a tiny room in the corner by the kitchen. It really tight but I've been able to work it out... not perfect but it works. I'm not as talented as you so the push to expand is not dominant. Oh, by the way... I can't stand stuff on the floors either! People think I'm mental for wanting clean & tidy...
Thanks for the tip on the A/C. Not as talented as me? LOL! If you can shoot in a tiny croner by the kitchen, I'd say you're way more talented than me. :) people who are messy accuse people who are tidy of being mental. Hmmmm...wonder who I would listen to? :)
In your stand-up shooting set, I would love to know the distances from camera to talent, talent to backdrop, and lens focal length. I have 9' from wall to wall and am always looking for how people work in their space.
Thanks Kevin - I really appreciate you taking the time to put the graphic together and answering my question in detail. I'm still dreaming of a 20 x 12 x 10 man-cave some day, but I'm getting closer to a decent locked down setup through trial and [lots of] error. Cheers
Disorganization destroys my enthusiasm. Have gear sitting around doing nothing because of the amount of effort to put in place. A lot to move around, move again, set up, tear down, and reorganize.
Hey Kev. I'm going to sneak into your house..... Not to steal anything, but just to move all the remotes to different locations, and to swap all the labels on the drawers...... That would really mess with your OCD. The rest of this message has been retracted.
I would hate to show you my unorganized mess in my back room. Needs a BIG BIG clear out of things I never use that I think I might use and know deep down I won't use. Come on admit it how many of you like me.
