This has become an interesting and exciting odyssey --finding other higher notes of this scale ---this is great progress --thankyou !
No words to say thank you for your video, it has allowed me to have a peek of how to use scales in a piece of music, I knew that this was the only way to play a piece of music like this particular flamenco song, you did a great job explaining how to apply it. I am an amateur player; I usually play pop music by ear. I wish I could find more videos like yours in RUclips but I have not been that lucky finding more videos that explain clearly how to apply scales. This is going to become my first flamenco song because now I know what I am doing and not have to memorize the notes. Thank you again!!
I am glad to have found this video. All the others are pushy about what has to be done. This one is relaxed and informal to a point that it is easy and comfortable to learn. I do need to get a nylon string acoustic cause playing on a steel string gets a little harsh.
Excellent. Got lost at times but was able to find myself. Thanks man. Keep teaching
Your playing is so incredible I watching this video on repeat 🔁
4:18 second scale, watching it in slowmo. thx dude
I want to thank you for sharing... I will never play this style. But it was a pleasure to hear. Great lesson!
for all the people who are confused.
E Phrygian = E F G A B C D
E Phrygian Dominant = E F G# A B C D
Phrygian is the 3rd mode of the Major Scale
Phrygian Dominant is the 5th mode of the Harmonic Minor scale
Thank you for pointing out these necessary facts; so rarely done by even the best instructors.
Thank you thank you
i dont understand the g# the lesson is key of c start on the E (3)
This makes more sense. He didn't say which e Phrygian 2 or 3 was. It was confusing me
Thank you very much for a very interesting video, it is very useful

How can I use this scale on Spain (Chick Corea) solo? Should I use the D major scale or the Bm scale?
Any tabs for your amazing licks in Flamenco E ?
Hi what guitar do you have is very nice
Man I feel so DUPID. Would this help if I wanted to learn to play say Ottmar Liebert songs like snake charmer, Sante Fe, etc? Is there any body that breaks his music down to learn to play it? Thk you.

Nice..!!!
I love Flamenco, and I wished I had waited to access many FREE tutorials.
sounds phrygian good
What guitar are you using?
You should had played an entire song using the Phrygian scale to hear the final product. Thanks for sharing.
Gets a bit hairy above the safety of the 3 rd frets--I think one has to get familiar with the SOUND -----of the scale
so its minor scale strating from key of e
what i took from this video is that you end your phrases with E.
What exactly is the difference between E Major pentatonic - open position scale --and E Phrygian open position scale --?? Are they the same ? or can you show any difference in scale notes ? Now I am totally baffled ! One instructor says they are the SAME ????
Can this scale be a played over C major
Yes E Phrygian also works over A Aeolian (Natural Minor) they are all the same notes as C Major
7:25 and this one
I don’t understand how to construct the scale?
Im confused. Why do you resolve with E major? I thought phrygian was a minor scale? It has a flat third. Shouldn't you be playing an E minor chord? Is this a major or minor scale?
I'm not a Flamenco expert but how about this. The E Phyrigian (C Major scale) is not being used over the E chord. The passage resolves to E Major - at which point you have to play E or another note from E major like, say, G#. While he's playing his 'E Phrygian' runs a different chord is implied. If you want to sound Flamenco with just chords you can play F Major to E Major. The E Phrygian runs work over the F, so maybe it should really be called F Lydian
It is similar to minor. But the natural minor scale starts and ends on the 6th note of each major scale following the same pattern as major.
Are there Drums in FLAMENCO?
.must be a DRUMMER!?
interesting, but can you elaborate on the G# within the E chord? That's not in the"C major" scale
It's C augmented.
The Flamenco (or Spanish) scale is simply Phrygian mode with an added major 3rd. So in this case you have e,f,g,a,b,c,d,e . The g is a minor third add the major 3rd and you get e,f,g,g#,a,b,c,d,e . That is where the g# comes from.
Flamenco guitar uses the first three modes a lot so stay in Ionian, Dorian, and Phrygian modes and add that major 3rd of the Phrygian scale and practice with a metronome for speed. Start at say around 60 bpm and when your comfortable at that speed bump it up two to four bpm.
That E major chord would come out of Phrygian Dominant NOT Phrygian.
E Phrygian = E F G A B C D
E Phrygian Dominant = E F G# A B C D
It is very confusing naming for the Flamenco scale to be called Phrygian dominant. The Phrygian dominant is nothing more than a mode of the harmonic minor. True enough like real Phrygian, it has a flat second. So what? If you want to hear real Phrygian mode, turn to Scorpions "Sails of Charon." One of the songs off Metallica Hardwired sounded to me true Phrygian. True Phrygian with the flat 3 is used a lot in metal and not much elsewhere. It has a very dark feel, totally unlike harmonic minor.
Sen kesin Türksün :)
Very Nice sir.but fort débutant should better to add notes.thanks a,lot
I am now a student.
