Matthew, I understand your thought process after watching this video, but Juice was not at all glorifying drug use. If you watch the video back, it shows him and his friends partying, using drugs, having fun, and then it progresses into the next morning, everyone looks like they’re sick and empty and rotted from the inside out after using drugs. and in the chorus he says “i might throw uuuuupppp- i’ll be okay” meaning the drugs are so addicting he’ll keep taking them regardless of how they make him feel, ultimately ending in his demise at the end of the video, his friends are holding a funeral for him. so the video depicts the fun part of the drugs and then what happens after due to addiction, overall showing drugs as a bad thing, not glorifying
The song was trying to to explain the life of a drug addict which was himself and how the end result of the drug addiction is death. That’s why he had his own memorial at the end

Long comment incoming as I want to answer some of the questions you asked in the video :) First off: Yes, the dude in the beginning was pouring out lean from his styrofoam cup. This leads into your "what's codeine?" question as well. Codeine is a very potent opiate (like morphine is), and is the active ingredient in lean. Lean is cough syrup (containing codeine) and sprite (or mountain dew), and sometimes candy like jolly ranchers. Lean is usually purple due to the cough syrup, but can be orange as well. This depends on the brand of cough syrup. Juice was *not* glorifying drug usage in this song, despite what it might sound like. This is clear by the first line of the song; "Lord have mercy, I know that these percys finna hurt me", with "percys" being slang for Percocet (which is oxycodone -also a very potent opiate- and paracetamol). He knew very well that the drug usage and excessive partying was hurting him, and has mentioned this in other songs as well. The way I interprate it is that the memorial at the end of the video was signalling this knowledge as well Hope this clears things up somewhat, keep the good content coming
Codeine is not a very potent opiate. It's actually the second least potent of all commonly prescribed opiates/opioids. Morphine is about 6x more potent than codeine. Also oxycodone is not an opiate, but a semi-synthetic opioid. Oxycodone is a lot stronger than both codeine and morphine.
As an addict, most of juice's songs aren't glorifying drugs. When I hear this song, especially "Are they working? Tell me are they working?" it hits so hard. Many addicts look to cope with drug use and juice pointed that out in many of his songs, he was very much aware of his situation just like many addicts who are far into their addiction. We understand we could die, but we also cannot give up the thing that brings us relief. It is so hard, and juice is probably the only artist I have listened to who has perfectly embodied the struggle with addiction in his music. A lot of his music videos also tell a story, most of which the regular listener will not recognize but to those who have experienced it, we can see it perfectly.
I thought it was interesting how you said mixed emotions between the beat and lyrics, I think it ties to the song being called Black & White (i.e. not everything is as it seems), while it's a hype song, it's really just an outlet for all the struggles in his life.
i remember when this song first came out and it was an instant hit, it was such a hype song for all of my friends and i. we would play it in the back of the school bus and just jam out. after his passing the song feels so different. i always new about his drug problems and how he needed help like most people but it really hits different knowing that he’s gone. it’s makes the song a lot more sad and less of a song you can listen to happily.
@@MatthewRunaway he’s showing how badly it messed him up and when he says he might throw up it’s showing that messing him up but when he says ‘I’ll be okay’ it’s showing how addicted he is.

Codeine w/ promethazine aka "Lean" is a prescription cough syrup with opioids similar to oxycodone and morphine. The codeine cough syrup is usually poured into a double styrofoam cup with sprite. Popular name brands of codeine include Wockhardt, Hi Tech and Actavis. Also its called lean because after you drink it you're slumped

The video show how it feels to be on drugs, partying and having fun and then it show how you feel when the feeling goes away that’s why everyone was sad and blanked out in the second half and yeah that was basically a vigil for themselves. And lean is real strong cough syrup and people mix it with soda and jolly ranchers the effect it’s that it makes you drowsy and sleepy
Lean is prescription Codeine or coughing syrup with some kind of soft drink usually Sprite and codeine is what they used to make lean so that’s what he meant when he said doing codien with my white friends

The song is about how juice is trapped in life. He doesn't glorify drugs he just talks about what's going on. For example when he says I party to damn much you people can't keep up. He was talking about how people do it for fun but he does it because it's a way that he lives because he's addicted and can't escape his fate that's awaiting for him. He knows that death is close and that the drugs are the only thing helping him cope with this problem.
your explanation of juices songs is prob how I would describe mine/our, it's just a bunch of kids who were exposed to the real world at such a young age but were just laughing and partying through it together
Lean is a drink that you could get with mixing a couple things and it is a pinkish purple color that you shouldnt fall asleep when drinking very dangerous could kill you, you could mix with blueberry faygo and some cuff syrup to get it btw
Lean is Codeine Cough Syrup. Codeine is a pain killer similar to morphine, the liquid is dark purple, its mixed with Sprite and Jolly ranchers to taste almost like candy. Super addicting just like any pain killer.
The funeral/memorial at the end is explained in a Twitter reply He said to someone once that asked what the end of the video was and he said something like you do drugs and you die so he wasn’t glorifying them. And juice was pretty religious and mentions god in many of his songs. Keep up the good work!!
codeine is cough syrup which is the source of “high” you get from drinking lean. Lean is normally codeine + sprite + jolly ranchers (for taste) hence the name “dirty sprite” used in some rap songs.
Lean is just cough syrup basically but you can make your homemade version with Jolly Ranchers, Cough Syrup, and Sprite or mountain dew!.. not the same and as strong as the real one but it’s close
The reasoning for the ending being his funeral. He was going for the idea that people think famous artist who died early hasn't actually died but rather faked their death and moved away to somewhere south living it up leaving their old life behind them.
Codine is a part of the cough syrup that you make lean out of. That’s what makes it a more ”dangerous” drug. It’s also the codine that makes it a purple/orange kinda color.
Someone asked on twitter about the ending to this video clip and he said something along the lines of "it's to show what happens if you abuse drugs, you will die."
Lean is the drug as you know, it's a drink and it's purple in color usually. It's main part is codeine syrup, that's what gets you going, usually you add sprite, and jolly ranchers hard candy and ice cubes. Also, Juice was quite religious, he read the Bible and said himself he was God fearing. He references the Bible in a lot of his songs.
Codeine is a pers rip toon drug used for pain relief, often people are prescribed codeine cough syrup, you mix the prescription cough syrup and soda to make “lean”
Lean, purp/purple, promethazine, codeine, and cough syrup, are all the same thing, it’s basically liquid medicine used to treat coughs, it comes in a couple different colors each of the colors are different levels of strength that bottle has, purple is the strongest lean then there’s green, red , and yellow . Juice and most others consumed it by mixing a little bit of lean with a soda most likely sprite hence the term “ dirty sprite “ . Also cough syrup is extremely expensive. When juice died in the airport his private plane he was in had a lot of Percocets or “ percs “ he also had multiple pints of lean. I hope that helps you understand what he means when he says those things better .
Juice had fame and money but was still sad. He made this song at a very low point in his life and it was around the time he said he wasn’t making it past 21

He doesn’t
Your song gonna go brazy my friend 🔥
🙏🏼
The reasoning for the ending being his funeral. He was going for the idea that people think famous artist who died early hasn't actually died but rather faked their death and moved away to somewhere south living it up leaving their old life behind them.
Codine is a part of the cough syrup that you make lean out of. That’s what makes it a more ”dangerous” drug.
It’s also the codine that makes it a purple/orange kinda color.
Your music video is coming out on my birthday!!! I love your song "Workin on me" can't wait for this next song!🔥💯
Happs bro! Respect 💪🏼
Someone asked on twitter about the ending to this video clip and he said something along the lines of "it's to show what happens if you abuse drugs, you will die."
Thats the thing man he predicted his death to damn perfectly. Its like he saw how he would go. So many things like this. 999 LYJW
is my favorite song from him , i realy miss him
Lean is the drug as you know, it's a drink and it's purple in color usually. It's main part is codeine syrup, that's what gets you going, usually you add sprite, and jolly ranchers hard candy and ice cubes.
Also, Juice was quite religious, he read the Bible and said himself he was God fearing. He references the Bible in a lot of his songs.
Bro you right about a lot, I would love to chat with you about things in the video & more music.
He chooses the perfect beat no one ever wud think of
Lean is oxcodine mixed with sprite and jolly ranchers, oxcodine is commonly found in cough syrup which is why lean is purple
It's the line towards the end here that haunts me--"I'm a lion at the zoo." His whole catalog is a cry for help, and he never got it.
