It's "waist" level, as in your belly area. In other words, you hold the camera down at your waist (belly) rather than at eye level. However, that said, there are numerous optional prism finders available for 45 degree and 90 degree viewing at eye level.
Hasselblad focusing screens are absolutely terrible. It’s nearly impossible to focus on your subject. The best way to focus with it is by “zone focusing”. f/11 to f/16 and the use of a tripod. Trying to get focus at f3.5 or f/4, good luck!
They were easier to use with a prism finder. They had two differnt ones. One had a 45 degree angle eyepiece.
It takes a while to get used to a waist level finder. Especially as the image is reversed. I find it easier to use a tripod.
