i came here looking for an example of this in music because it’s my favorite thing when something like percussion makes everything else quieter for a short time, and i had basically no good way to describe it 😅
also while i’m here, is there such a thing as being able to control your ears attenuation somewhat? i can only do it with one ear and i have no idea how to tell how i do it, but it makes a weird kinda low pitched white noise inside of my ear

Try forcing a Yawn and concentrate on the rattling vibration in your ears, I believe this is the same phenomenon.
Crazy story but once I did LSD and could control it and it was going on its own on and off all night, I think it may have damaged the natural reflex... So it may be something you don't want to play with beacuse now I have trouble hearing conversations with background noise.
      Good luck !
