Im looking this up because I never did it also but I think im put glue down and push the metal ring dowm... so when I push the speaker out the ring holds it secure... idk.. bit I have 3 13w7s that I need to do...
Just refoamed my W7 and can't get the o-ring back on. Literally put it in the oven, coated it with lubricant, and spent a couple hours trying with no success. I'm thinking of just cutting it to make it fit since the retaining ring fits tightly over it. I figure I could put a small bead of adhesive on the seam of the retaining ring if it comes loose. Or worst case scenario, a self-tapping screw with a square nut in front of it. Thoughts?
@@HifiVega I've spent hours trying to tap it in, heated it, lubed it, etc. I suspect the replacement foam is slightly thicker. Do you think my "solution" is sensible?
I'm suprised it works with no voice coil former scraping or rubbing considering you didn't remove the dust cap and center the voice coil with shims inside of the magnetic Gap to center it.
@@HifiVega Good job dude, i like the video, i would of went the harder way just because of the risk, whats strange is how these subs mount, having to remove those two metal rings and then flip the surround up to mount the screws inside the frame, like thats even more impressive when people mount that and it still doesnt rub after the fact, those subs must have one stiff spider.
analogaudio rules JL definitely recommends that you just pull the surround back a little instead of flipping it up, but we all know a lot of people just flip the surround up.
Where can I get the center dust cover with the w7 logo on it. I have the foam surround but am having difficulty finding the dust cover. Thank you in advance.
Good job. I will try to do the same but also the center piece ha a crack in it I was thinking about a little fiberglass resin to hold together anyone think that’s good ?
Hi, i live in Turkey, i need a JL Audio 12w7 repair kit, can you send it to me via cargo, the original of this part is not in Turkey, because can you help me..
I don’t even know how to get it out of the box…this is still a new release $1,500 W7 JL stated selling again. Anyone in the PHX area have the skills for the repair?
Thanks for this video Robert. I have a guy that is going to pay me to do this for his sub. He has a 12w7 that is 15 years old. These must be really great subs to last this long. I have 2 questions. How long did you manually hold the cone up to the surround before you could let go and it stayed stuck? What should I charge him for doing this? I almost feel like telling him whatever he wants to give me. He isn't exactly my good friend, but he is s fellow bass head. Any way, thanks again for this video.
Russell Burgan I held the cone up for around 5 minutes and then used some tissue to make sure it stayed up. I dunno what I’d charge him... it’s not too bad of a job to do
Bro I have a problem .. i just did mine and everything looks great until I tried to put that ring around the foam ..it no longer want to go in 🤷🏽♂️🤭🤭😬😬
If you’re watching this with headphones on, keep your eyes on the video! Do NOT look away! Or else what you’ll hear is a man with this smooth voice over a porno movie background track, talkin’ ‘bout how he’s gonna do this dirty speaker real good and gentle... 🤣
Great video man!!! Gave me confidence and I did mine today. Let’s pray for the best!!!
I'm still using this sub and it KICKS!! I love JL. Awesome job on the refoam too brother
BigDWiz got that HIFIVEGA custom! Ima have to check it out at the spring meet!
I may have the Ranger ready...at least some version of finished. Hope I can set aside some time to finish it off.
Bro all I've ever had is SPL subs How good is that w7 sound? They have got to sound phenomenal much as they cost
You made that look easy! Hell of a good job! Like how you showed us everything you didn't cut the video on the details. Good Vid
Removing old foam & glue .. “separation anxiety” .. U got it .. the apex predator ...

A lil smooth jazz for ya!

It’ll fit you just gotta bend it to shape and use a rubber mallet.

Seems wrong not spacing the coil. I wonder how many people do it this way and the coil robs after they’re done

I’ve seen it happen before, but most of the time if you’re careful you can get away without having to do that.

Josh Davidson I couldn’t find a stock dustcap anywhere myself... I looked because it’s common to mess them up during a refoam
@@HifiVega I have replacement dust caps for the W7 subwoofers what size do you need?
Rzabo2004 Thanks for the offer, but I ended up doing just fine and not messing up the dust cap. Good looking out tho man thanks

What did you use to keep the cone up for the hour of glue hardening?
Stuffed packing paper in there
Maybe it was shirts. It’s been a while so I can’t remember
No glue for the middle of the cone?😯
Jlaudiomustangs10 8:40 I didn’t show me putting it on there but I did get it lol
Where did you get the refoam kit?
Simply Speakers

dope vid homie, boutta do my 13
Thanks!
How do you line up the coil so it doesn’t rub?
Carefully, but you can also use small pieces of paper as spacers
How has the 10w7 been working after these few years because I am about to do my 10w7
Krustywho Big D has been bumping it in his Accord this whole time with no troubles.

DontMatTerSz sometimes you gotta reshape it a little
HifiVega reshape the ring..🤔 I kinda want to use a screwdriver but don’t want to poke the foam and have a bigger problem..😬
DontMatTerSz I just took mine completely off and worked it by hand until it got perfectly
HifiVega yeah I’ve been trying it but it’s a no go 🙅🏽♂️ doesn’t want to go in ..😭
DontMatTerSz man that sux!
You do good work there. Great video..
wade hicks Thank you!
What type of glue is?
ROBERTO ROSAS e6000 black
How long did you wait before you played music on it?
Eddie Parrilla I wasn’t sure how long to wait, so I gave it a few days because I wasn’t in desperate need of it.
@@HifiVega yea i figured but the video seemed like you just played it right after,,great video btw
Eddie Parrilla thanks man! The magic of editing 😂
If the foam isn’t damage can I reuse it
erwin lopez I wouldn’t go through all the trouble just to reuse some old foam because it all has a shelf life
Why are you replacing it if it's not damaged?😂
Is it worth it ? Are these w7 worth the reform
Absolutely
I have 2 10 and 2 8 inch that’s been sitting because it needs refoam . Jl audio are known to have foam failer since the 90s .
Never Refurbished a speaker but yet you make a RUclips video lol
Some people like to learn with a person who has never done it so they can also learn from mistakes I made
Nice!
