  • Here's how I made my dividers for my 20 gallon long divided betta tank! They are opaque and create closed systems for the safest possible shared tank for betta. I hope this helps you guys create a divided tank for yourself! If you do make these, post it on Instagram or TikTok and tag me (@PNWBettas), I would love to see!

    Definitely considering this for my dorm. I want to take my two bettas but don’t want to worry about two separate tanks in such a small space so I’ll probably divide a 10 or 15 for them

    Hi I found you on TikTok and you have inspired me to purchase my first 30g fish tank. You are doing an amazing job, keep it up

    Little tip its easier to measure the width on the outside of the aquarium.. hold the board up to where the glass starts and where it ends. Idk if that makes sense but I'll try link a video I watched of a girl making a mesh divider but she explains how to measure the divider to fit into the aquarium.

    Good job, but I will have done one more thing. At the bottom of your divider, I will have drill few holes to let the water flowing from one section to the other. Then, because of your space limitation, I will have created, on the top of your aquarium, a filter box (you can use a planter with media, foam... and few terrestrial plants). A small pump in your RH section to the top filter and the return in your LH section. You will have created a full cycle and unique planted top filtration = efficient, beautiful and easy to maintain... You can also add your heater in the LH section where your water is returning from your filter. Due to the water flow, the warm water will go through your 3 sections.

      I actually very specifically wanted no shared water! I siliconed these dividers into place to have three separate sections. Because I run so many tanks with so many fish, I like to have high levels of biosecurity. I limit cross contamination between fish as much as possible. My python for example is only used for clean water, I manually syphon water out with a sanitized syphon. This has saved me a lot of heartbreak with myco + tanks. Myco in bettas is unfortunately not as uncommon as people think, with some studies recording 14-25% of clinically healthy fish swabbing positive for marium or other strains. I’ve been able to prevent a lot of loss with keeping my systems as separate as possible!

    I really hope you went for sponge filters, that way they could all be run off 1 pump, (just get the appropriate airline connectors at your local aquatics shop) which would be much cheaper to run. Also I'd be curious about what happened if you just heated the middle tank, or the 2 sides, by my thinking you probably wouldn't need 3 heaters on the go, sure there'll be temperature fluctuation, but I wouldn't have thought it would be a concerning amount...

    • @pnwbettas
      @pnwbettas  2 года назад

      I run basically all my tanks on sponge filters. I have a much larger fish room then when this video was originally made. I used to use individual heaters for each section yes. Three small 50w preset heaters. There’s not enough heat exchange when you silicone the dividers to heat other sections, as there is no water flow at all. My old fish room was also very cold.
      I actually heat my entire fish room now, so I don’t bother with heaters at all.

    Hey! I have a 10 gallon tank for my betta and the water is kinda cloudy? I have a heater and filter but the water is still cloudy? I did a 25% water change as well

    • @pnwbettas
      @pnwbettas  3 года назад +1

      It’s probably a bacterial bloom. They normally go away on their own if you just don’t touch the tank.

  • @gwensanimals2899

    I have a question. If they are water tight then wouldn’t u need 3 filters and 3 heaters?

    • @jessicab4991
      @jessicab4991 3 года назад +1

      She said that at the end of the video. But I honestly would guess that if she used two heaters one on each end... It would heat the middle regardless. I think three heaters might actually be too much because they may not share water, but they are in the same tank so the temperature will still be somewhat shared even if the water is not. But being as her fish room is cold she has to heat both sides or one side might actually become colder than the other. Either way. Three filters and at least two heaters are needed.

  • @Movrart
    @Movrart 3 года назад

    Since the water isn’t shared, do you use 3 separate filters and Heaters? I was hoping to put one divider in my 10 gallon tank and get a new Betta, but I wanted to use only one filter and one heater

    I’m confused. This is foam poster board? Is this not going to disintegrate over time?

    • @pnwbettas
      @pnwbettas  3 года назад

      No it’s foam PVC board. It’s a hard plastic-y material and won’t break down in the water even after years

    • @pnwbettas
      @pnwbettas  3 года назад

      It needs to be secure in the tank. If there are gaps You risk the fish being able to get between the sections

  • @kenthomas4668
    @kenthomas4668 Год назад

    We used plastic embroidery sheets with edges from report binders. You used WAY too much silicone it didn't need to be water proof just hold in place

    • @pnwbettas
      @pnwbettas  Год назад

      I’ve done that method but really disliked the outcome. It was far too see-through even with doubling up the embroidery sheets.
      I siliconed them to maintain bio security. Prevents spread of disease between fish if any of them get sick. Prevents infecting all of them. I don’t *need* to, but after years of keeping bettas, it’s what I prefer.
      Also I know the silicone is messy, this video was my first time ever siliconing dividers into place. It looks very nice when I do it now. Doesn’t really matter tho, it’s in my house. If it’s messy it still is functional for me

      I’ve used both. It’s the same material, it’s just weather cost or simplicity is more important to you. A set of 2 for a 20 long is about $40+ shipping. This cost me half of that
