A look at my Hardy cactus garden and a few non Hardy varieties in the Hudson Valley. #hudsonvalleygardens #cactus #hardycactus #agave #coldhardyagave #pricklypear
I tip my hat to you for the labor of digging up what cannot survive in the winter. I have lemon trees and a palm that I have to move each year. It's a struggle.
Well the majority of my palms stay outside with protection. Last year I did the same with two olive trees. Next spring I'm putting my Ponderosa Lemon in the ground for good and then building winter protection for it.
Of course I just tried to find my file and it's somewhere in my office. They are opuntias from Cold Hardy Cactus. They have a great website that you can look up by your planting zone and then pick what flower color you want. If you were local in NY I would just give you some. I always have too much of everything.
@@newyorktropicalgarden9364 Thank you, thats so nice of you! I wish I were but I'm on the other side of the ocean 😄 Thanks for the hint, I'm gonna check out what kinds of Opuntias they have in stock. I have four Opuntia ficus indica in my garden already but they are not cold hardy and require a lot of protection so I'm looking for some cacti that are fully hardy. I'm in zone 7b.
Hi there. I think they are very easy to move. I'm going to post a video in the next two weeks of me moving my now gigantic agaves. They are definiteyly getting too big to move so I will probably put them in the ground to stay next year, with winter protection of course
@@stashthevampede9480 I should know that! Haha. I guess that’s the only way I have ever heard it pronounced and never thought about the word origin. Gracias!
@newyorktropicalgarden9364 I like cylindropuntia sounds regal, I probably didn't spell that right. I didn't mean to sound snarky, just sayin. Lol keep on growin man ✌️
@@stashthevampede9480 not snarky at all. My thank you was sincere. I learn so much from interacting with everyone on here. And now I can’t wait to do a video about chollas and pronounce it correctly!
I'm always in awe at the beauty of your garden ♥️🇺🇸🙏🤗🌴🌴🌴
You are way too kind Jose! And I feel the same about your great garden.
The blue color of your pool and the Hudson River are beautiful.
Thank you Paulo!
Thanks for the glove reference when messing with cactus!
It helps. I always swear they shoot their needles at me. Sometimes I have no idea how I get them.

Hey, nice video! What are the cold hardy cacti called?

How much longer will you keep digging out the Madagascar palm? I have mine in a pot and it’s 5 ft now.
