- The Megavalanche always delivers an eventful race, This is what it looked like starting from row G in the main race.
The Megavalanche 2024 started from lower down due to weather conditions which meant they started the race in 2 separate waves. Luckily for me that put me on the front row of wave 2!

Here is a couple of commonly asked questions which you might be wondering;
How much does it cost to enter the Megavalanche?
The Megavalanche is priced depending on how long you plan to ride and the extra events you plan to compete in.
As a rough guide, the 8 day lift pass including event entry costs €150.
Here’s a breakdown for someone driving solo from Calais;
Event entry inc lift pass - €150 euros
Tolls - €100 euros approx each way
Fuel - 1.5 tanks of fuel each way £300 approx
BnB Accommodation - £499
Dinners + Beers - £150 - £250
It’s worth noting if you can fill your van and split costs, then this could work out a fair bit cheaper.
How do you qualify for Megavalanche?
Racers are split into waves of 100, the top 35 from each group qualify for the main megavalanche race. Finishers between 35 - 70 go into the megavalanche challengers and the remaining going into Mega amateurs.
Everyone races, if you DNF your qualifying race then you automatically get put on the back row of amateurs.
What is the age limit for Megavalanche?
Don't quote me on this but if you are 70 or over then the doctors certificate becomes difficult to obtain, this is what I've been told. Riders of 14 and over can enter the main race. Children younger than 14 can enter the mega kids event.
Where does Megavalanche take place?
The Megavalanche takes place in Alpe d 'Huez in the French Alps which is famous for it's legendary tour de France climb. The trail network also has some brilliant riding available.
How many riders are in Megavalanche?
You can expect around 1500 racers to enter the event each year. The races are run in groups of 350.
How many miles is the Megavalanche?
The total race trail comes in at 13.7 miles which equates to 22kms. Expect around 150mts of elevation and 2600mts of descent!
