Fantastic, this adventure checked all my boxes. P500, camping, Esme, cooking..... I'd love to have been out there with ya. Amazing what the drone adds to your already great cinematography. Take care my friend.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Let me know what you think of the P500. It's a great machine for the money - and I have a few video's of how I have modified mine over time that you can take a look at. Best wishes, Michael
Great video! Your videos among a few others are what swayed me toward the P500. It's been a couple months and a few hundred miles and I could not be happier!! Keep up the great videos.
This was an awsome video! This has to be one of my all time favorite videos with the SxS, camping, and a man a his dog motif. I hope to see more of these videos, and keep up the good work.
Thanks Diddley - I'm glad it was a good watch for you! I'm planning more trips this year and will be sure to post them for everyone's enjoyment :) Thanks again for the kind comment!
It's funny, because I have seen this one before, yet I am enjoying it just the same the second time around. I live alone, and I hate to cook, but your concoctions in Camp have inspired me to experiment at home in a similar way. For example, today, I had rice, cut up and fried hot dogs, mixed together with some butter salt and shredded cheddar. Stirred it all up into a gooey mess and really enjoyed it. Haha.
LOL, when you pulled out that sleeping bag....that thing reminded me of a futon mattress i had back in the day!! Wow is that thing huge. No wonder Esme had to run alongside! "I had an opportunity at a grouse today, but that didn't work out so good." Hahahaha. I'm right there with you on that. Elusive buggers....
Yup - thats a big bag. Its old school with 3 layers of bedding inside it. Its rated at -45c and I think I've had it down to -38c and it works. I love that thing - There's lots of room and Esme sleeps in the bottom of the bag when its really cold. It will soon be grouse season again. I went vegaterian (kind of) over a year ago. If I don't harvest the animal myself then I don't eat meat. I call it hunterterian. Last year I got no deer - so its been a long winter :| - Hoping for better luck this time around.
Thanks! Esme loves the outdoors, just like Cooper. It's a great time to spend with a dog - no leashes or off limits areas, just freedom :) Thanks for checking out my video!
Wow that sleeping bag is huge! If you ever want something smaller look into backpackers sleeping bags, much more compact and still work well in the sub freezing climates.
Hi Phil - Yea I know its big and I do have other backpacking models too but I just enjoy that bag - Lots of room to move around and its a -45C. One of the great things about a side by side it weight doesn't matter (mostly) :) Thanks for commenting!
Love your videos and sometimes live vicariously through them. Always enjoy your laid back style and Esme is very photogenic. I live at the opposite end of your spectrum in the desert, but I have a new rescue dog "Bucko" and eventually will attempt a similar type camping experience with him and my RZR 800. Waiting for my Mavic Drone to show up so I can take the expensive selfies. I look forward to your reviews and write down the things I will need as a result of watching you. Warmest regards and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year goes out to you and your family. Greg
Hey Greg - thanks so much for the high praise :) That Rzr 800 will be excellent for desert travel and will carry enough gear for you and Bucko. The drone is a great addition but make sure you buy the $99 DJI care pack as getting it after 48 hours of ownership is a pain! The care pack allows you to crater the thing and have it replaced twice! Take lots of pictures and video - I'd love to share in your adventure too! Merry Christmas to you and family also :)
Did order the $99 care package and the Drone should be here in a week or two... Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to have you review my video when the time comes. It will be at least a few months before I can be proficient etc.
I'm very excited for you - it's a great tool and you will get a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment from it - it's the best portable drone on the market right now!
Looks like fun. Esme is adorable with a very sweet expression. One question, regarding the ground cloth; why did you not turn the reflective side up to reflect any body heat that may have gone into the ground beneath you?
I answered this on another comment but here's the reason:- To be honest I don't think it matters too much but I recently watched this on Survival Russia ruclips.net/video/B2zKbEuFAvs/видео.html - and he explains a little about which way up. Hope that helps! :)
Thanks George - the flashlight is a Petzl I bought many years ago but it has a built in retractable headband. I found you can use this on you wrist or arm too - its very useful. This is simular www.petzl.com/BE/en/Sport/CLASSIC-headlamps/ZIPKA
Hi, I have watched most all of your videos over the years with the Honda 500, the Argo and the Can-Am Defender, I realize you don't own any of them anymore but if you were to buy one of the 3 again which would it be?
Gahhhh - That's a tough question!!! Based on camping and exploring/trail riding I would have to say the P500. If you want to plow and haul lots of stuff around a property/farm, the Cam-am is the way to go. The Argo is for people who like abuse but love knowing they can go anywhere 😆
Hi, I used birch bark, pine sap & a touch of hand sanitizer (alcohol). This method makes sure you get a good start to the fire in cold and wet conditions. Hope that helps!
Off topic question, if you haven’t done this yet, have you considered taking off your rear swaybar. I hear it make the ride a hole lot better. I’m going to try disconnecting the sway bar link and give it a go
Hi Mooseman - I've done in the past on other UTV's but don't recommend the rear sway bar. The front is much better and it allows you to soak up much more rough terrain. It's something I'm planning on doing sometime :)
Awesome! I really enjoy your videos and the P500 and gear reviews. Beautiful country. I really like the P500. Two things that I wish it had. Larger fuel tank capacity (4.1 gals is kind of small) which leads me to ask do you carry any additional fuel with you when your out on your backwoods excursions? Also I wish it had just a tad more top speed. (I know it's not build for speed but a little more would be ok) I can live without it having a front diff lock. Good tires and a winch solves that. If you ever decide to try another machine in your future I would encourage you to take a look at the Kymco UXV 450i. I have a 2015 and really like it. Very well built solid little machine. Very torquey. Not much larger than the P500. 8.5 gal fuel tank and tops out at 48 mph. As much as I love it I have considered trading for the Honda P500. Really like the transmission in the 2017 P500.
I do carry additional fuel on longer journeys but I find the P500 very efficient and can easily last a full weekend. I strap a small gas can to the rear rack and it takes up little room. Top speed increase would be nice but I would like a locking front diff - I know I can winch through but I'd have to use it less with better 4 wheel drive. I've looked at the Kymco's before and they look a solid machine. Whats puts me off is they are not much cheaper than a Honda but the resale value is awful compared to a Honda, Yamaha or other top brand. If they were about $7000 they might make a dent in the market but not at $11,000.
The Emporium I understand. Prices must be much higher in your area. I got my Kymco UXV 450 with all my accessories (winch front an rear bumpers doors rock sliders roof an windshield and diamond plate bed rail covers for under 8500 USD I also added 26" maxxis big horn tires.
Sorry - I should have stated CAD not USD on the $ figures. The are the same list price as the Honda Pioneer 500. Sounds like you got a deal with all the extras.
Sure - I did a review of the jacket here ruclips.net/video/Z6YhunIJzYY/видео.html. I bought mine from www.military1st.co.uk/clothing/ - in the UK as they are hard to get in North America. Hope that helps.
Hi Thomas - I bought the Static V Insulated Ultra Light on Massdrop for $82 - So far it's been very good. I like they have a good warranty. At 2.5" thick - it gives good support from the ground. If you can pick it up on sale I would go for it!
Hahaha - she did. I don't think should would know what to do with anything she caught. However, when we go grouse hunting she naturally grabs the shot birds - but doesn't bite them. I should perhaps spend some time to learn how to teach her to retrieve. Thanks for commenting!
Question: I see you're placing a reflective tarp facing down under the tent. Would it be better to flip it around have have it reflect body heat towards the inside of the tent?
To be honest I don't think it matters too much but I recently watched this on Survival Russia ruclips.net/video/B2zKbEuFAvs/видео.html - and he explains a little about which way up. I was trying that method. Well spotted!
Thanks for the video reply. I use a Therm-a-Rest Z Lite SOL (has reflective) and I put a layer on top to keep the warmth trapped in. I think this why Survival Russia found that turning it upside down was better (have foam to keep radiated heat in - assuming his pad was reflective on both sides). But whatever works and keeps you from shivering all night! I look forward to seeing more videos :)
Hey Logan - I was looking at the Therm-a-Rest Z Lite to use as an under matt for my inflatable pads. They look pretty nice! How do you like them? Thanks for commenting!
Great minds think alike! When tent camping I use a self inflating pad with the SOL on top and it's very comfortable (I'm too old to sleep on the ground, or too spoiled). You'll need a system to keep them together. I used a cheap bed sheet ($1 ikea) and sewed it together to made a fitted bag. When hammock camping, I couldn't sleep without the SOL in below 10 c weather. Very difficult to keep in place but without it I would be shivering all night. Have you considered a hot tent for the winter?
Hahaha - indeed. I like the idea of the bed sheet to keep everything together - very smart! I have been researching a hot tent - I looked at the Canadian 5 man arctic tent ($300) but I'm still researching.
I knew it!! Fellow Albertan. I recognized the type of tree's that grow here. Oh! And yes the Molson Canadian Beer on the stump. Great video. Where abouts are you from in this dear province?
Fantastic, this adventure checked all my boxes. P500, camping, Esme, cooking..... I'd love to have been out there with ya. Amazing what the drone adds to your already great cinematography. Take care my friend.
Thanks Mustang! It would be nice to share with friends for sure - maybe one day our paths will cross ;) Glad you enjoyed the video!
I'm from Michigan and a new owner of a 500... you have a good knack for taking good video.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Let me know what you think of the P500. It's a great machine for the money - and I have a few video's of how I have modified mine over time that you can take a look at. Best wishes, Michael
Brother love your videos. Simple and to the point!! Keep them coming.
Thanks :) I appreciate the comment!
I have that same Stanley pot and cup set I love that thing.
Have you ever thought of using a insulated pop up ice hut to stay over night in? Just lay your tarp down for a floor after its up. They work great
Great video! Your videos among a few others are what swayed me toward the P500. It's been a couple months and a few hundred miles and I could not be happier!! Keep up the great videos.
Hi Eddie - I really think the P500 is a capable machine and priced right - I'm glad you are enjoying it :)
That was one BIG sleeping bag, lol Never noticed that Stick til you said it, lol
Hahaha - that damn stick! That sleeping bag is my favourite. I'll be using it this weekend. It's going to be a low of -26c and a high of -18c.
U are truly blessed my friend !
Thanks you :D

David - that sound like something I would enjoy (minus the hot dog) - great idea!
Your video (and audio) production here is absolutely top notch.
Very very well done.
Thanks SparkyMcBiff! :D
I love the outdoors and the quite, keep up the good videos.
Thanks Graham - I enjoy making the videos to share with everyone online!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. A common man, with a common plan, his doggy's got a pedigree.:)

Great footage and effort! Love it!!
Thanks my friend!
Great site, setup and campfire - and I think Esme approved of it as well.
Thanks! Esme loves the outdoors, just like Cooper. It's a great time to spend with a dog - no leashes or off limits areas, just freedom :) Thanks for checking out my video!

@@TheEmporiumOutdoors thank you for responding. The P500 is a great woods machine for sure.
Looked like fun 👍
Certainly was :)
Where did you get your camouflage stop at I've been looking for one thank you
Direct from Honda 👍
ive never seen a family size sleeping bag before ;-)
Haha - its big!
Too damn cold for me but nice video.
Very cold - but beautiful :)
Hi there,
Another great video! Keep it up.
I'd like to know what you used to light your fire. Thanks!
Hi, I used birch bark, pine sap & a touch of hand sanitizer (alcohol). This method makes sure you get a good start to the fire in cold and wet conditions. Hope that helps!
The Emporium Thanks, what did you use for your ignition source?
Great video my friend!!!! You have a new subscriber!!!!
Hey thanks for commenting Joe and thanks so much for the sub! I appreciate it! I'll subscribe over on your channel too!

I bet Esme makes a good foot warmer .
Hahaha - How can you tell :) She sleeps in the bottom of my big sleeping bag it's great for both of us!
Awesome !!🔥🔥

I m on massdrop too.
Thanx for the reply!
Has your Honda been reliable?
Very much so - never had an issue with anything so far. I'm up to 1200 km & 100 hours.
Puppy took off after something at 4:04, did she catch it lol?
Hahaha - she did. I don't think should would know what to do with anything she caught. However, when we go grouse hunting she naturally grabs the shot birds - but doesn't bite them. I should perhaps spend some time to learn how to teach her to retrieve. Thanks for commenting!
I THINK A FEW COOKING LESSONS WOULD BE A GREAT XMAS PRESENT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha - indeed it would - you can always learn more :)

Bucking for a Mary Brown sponsorship I see lol
Indeed I am - it's always been a dream of mine to be sponsored by a fried chicken establishment! :D
