Say what you will about Gene's ego, Gene is actually a really nice man with a great heart. I went into my KISS meet and greet, and while Tommy and Eric were very nice and cordial, it was Gene who treated me like a King, and I didnt expect that from him. I wont go into too much detail, but I suffer from a mental illness, and while Paul Stanley was cold and evasive, Gene gave me a big hug in full KISS costume and makeup, because he could see that I was a longtime fan and was in tears over meeting my heroes. Gene hugged me, and I told him thank you so much for being the soundtrack of my youth and getting me through dark times, he pulled away and told me that KISS would not be where it is without the love of fans like me, and he thanked me for my years of support. He signed everything I had and later on during the show, threw me some guitar picks as I was in the front row on his side. He is a class act and I dont care what anyone says. Gene is an extremely smart man, and KISS has been around as long as they have because of hard work and because they love what they do and who they do it for. KISS may be coming to the end of their career, but their legacy as icons will live on forever!
I bumped into Paul on the street once and being aware that these guys are probably totally sick of being approached by fans, I simply said hi, shook his hand and told him how much his music had meant to me and intended walking away. He asked me where I was from and chatted for a couple of minutes, rather than the 30 seconds I'd intended. He seemed warm and genuine on that occasion and I'm sorry to hear that you felt let down by him, particularly in a situation where (I assume) you'd paid to meet them. If he was in a bad mood etc, then there was no excuse for his behaviour towards you but I did recently stumble across a video on here called "Asius Technologies Stephen Ambrose demos ADEL™ MAM with Paul Stanley of KISS®". As I said, I have no idea of the circumstances of your meeting with him, and if he treated you poorly just because he could then there is no excuse, but particularly if you were in a noisy environment you might find what he says in that clip about social situations interesting.
@@ajo3085 I dont hold anything against Paul. I'm sure he's a good guy, and yeah everybody has bad days where their just in a bad mood.
Dude, that’s a great post. All power to you. 👍
I met Gene and Paul at KISS Coffee House in Myrtle Beach in 2006. They both signed my old KISS cards and thanked me for being a fan. Ace's daughter Monique responded to a quote I made about Ace and was nice and cordial. Thanks for sharing your KISS story. I love talking KISS.
@@surfsup5757 I was there that day also. I was lucky enough to be standing in the very place where they entered the coffee house and as they went in they both stopped, shook my hand and wished me well as they went inside. It was a nice gesture for them to do.
Kiss has been on a farewell tour longer than most bands have careers
No. Check your facts before commenting.
@@Jimmie_Rudolfsson I am sorry there Jimmie but Ben is right...How do I know... there have been to 2 different farewell tours ...lol

I recall seeing a KISS retirement tour in 1996, then again 2003 & 2016....
You should research the matter before you make an emotional response.

I know. I have a farewell concert shirt from the year 2000!
Gene has a million and one stories and I'd listen to every one of them. The man is a genius.
I went to the farewell tour like 20 years ago..thought I would never see them again..GENE I WANT MY MONEY BACK !!!
Rest In Peace, Larry. A beautiful, hard working man who can finally rest. Praying for Larry’s family.
I want to Specially appreciate you for being a big fan. Thanks for your nice comment on my post, it means a lot to me.
Kiss: 20 years career, 30 years of farewell tours😆
U will never have ANY TOURS, heck u be lucky to have a job at all.
No.
@Logan Tyler 2000? We are in 2020 and they are still on a farewell tour. 😆
@@e-rod1596 you don't pay attention do you? They had a farewell tour for the original lineup in 2000 which ended in 2000. They are on another farewell tour for the band as a whole right now, that didnt start until 2019.
@@natecannon6746 KISS is over, they are afraid to record a new album. When you live off the past you ARE OVER. If you want to be STUIPED and let them milk you of money for old over done music that's your choice, I quit when they refuse to make new KISS music. Fuckem
Gotta say, I find Gene quite inspirational! Love his 'take no crap', work hard, play hard attitude! Think the guy has a heart of gold!
Even without shades, Gene is wearing shades.
Nah. It’s stage makeup.
Haaa - just the right lighting
At some points, it almost literally looks he’s wearing glasses lol, I thought I saw the glare off the lenses a few times while watching this
LOL... great comment.
Yeah but he really needs them. He can't be in the make up all the time
"It's always sunny on Planet Cool" - Gene Simmons
''You should quit when you are on the top''. 15min later ''You should play 'til you drop dead''
He was talking sportsmen! The arts aren't quite the same thing!
@@DMSProduktions It's irrelevant. He was making an analogy about knowing when to leave the stage. He then reverses himself totally by talking about B.B. King and Chuck Berry, who played until the end.
@@DavianSinner Well duh!
@@MichaelGiordano777 That was NEVER a secret!
Gene was previously most well known for the girls he slept with and his massive ego, but you gotta admit, he is a very intelligent person who ran his business (Kiss) very very well.
The fact that he did all of this from nothing, he came from extreme poverty. I didn't realize the similarities he has with Geddy Lee. (Mom in holocaust, bassist, singer, super hard working) I like Geddy a lot more because of his humbleness, but Gene seems to be getting more genuine in his later years which is a good thing.
So Gene conned you too pal? He's a narcissist and egomaniac. Until his dying day. PT Barnum was right.
The difference between Rush and KI$$: when Neil Peart passed away Geddy and Alex said no more Rush, no more tours. KI$$? Hey, replace the drummer and lead guitarists a few times, we got a cash cow goin' here!!
Love Dennis, Love Gene, hope they both keep doing what they do for a long time to come.
This was a great interview. I grew up with Kiss from the early days. I have so much respect for his outlook (that I'm only seeing as of lately). God bless him!
A very smart man as well as a fine musician. Just love listening to this guy being interviewed.
Fine musician indeed. The McCartney of metal. Good songwriter, and the master of playing and singing simultaneously.
Very Smart and knowledgeable 👍🏻
Great interview!!! Enjoyed it . He has my Respect.
Yeah. "She", "Watching You" and "100,000 Years" showcase Gene's bass skills.
I’m so old - I can remember when KISS WAS the biggest band in the world, and when Dennis Miller was funny.
Yeah, it's been a great ride.
IS the biggest band un the world. IS, forever. Regards
Looks like Gene lost weight.
ABOUT TIME.
@Logan Tyler NO I'M A MARTIAL ARTIST AND WORK OUT 5 DAYS A WEEK SNOWFLAKE.
He’s gettin old
@Logan Tyler no not hurting here snowflake
@Logan Tyler TAKES ONE TO KNOW ONE FLAKEY BOY.
My parents survived the Great Depression. Gene is right, we're doing well. My father was in the CCC camp to keep working. My mother was a little girl. She had one toy that got broken. Her grandparents (her mom had her hands full) raised her. She ended up making her own toys. She met my dad just after WWII. My dad was definitely older than my mom. My husband and I live like kings compared to them. My parents had to leave school at very young ages. The jobs were minimal for my dad. We were poor. I cry some days because I want for almost nothing now. Yes, we are blessed. Kids go to school until at least 13. My dad left after 3rd grade. His dad died young. He had no choice. He was the man of the family at 10. I'd listen to Gene talk all day without a problem. Kisstianity.😆
We joke about the multiple farewell tours of KISS but aside from that, I admire Gene's remarks about the American dream. I think everyone should sit down and reflect about how lucky we are and stop being so politically divisive against our country.
Gene is amazing! So genuine. He gives 110% to his craft and it comes across. We can all learn from Gene and Paul!
Love him or hate him Gene is Awesome He tells it like it is
Hey I miss Dennis Miller !! Good to see him again. :) Great interview with Gene.
Not a big KISS fan but I have learned to like Gene and Paul. They are both extremely hard workers. They made a 47-year career out of their band. People said they were finished, over the hill, kaput, long ago. And yet they forged ahead. Made some awful mistakes but never got truly discouraged. They are survivors.
And Gene is the ultimate capitalist, coming from such humble beginnings. That gave him the drive. He might make the century mark. I wouldn't bet against him.
His mum made 93 not out! Pretty good innings considering the HARD life she had back in Europe & Israel!
Man I love Gene Simmons soooo much! Kiss 80s videos are sooooo great! That vibe is the best stuff ever made in pop music.🎉🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️
Wow 😳, I met. Pete Best! In Ohio. I talked one on one with him and I still have his Autograph! I Loved his sweet humble heart. He said he was surprised when Ringo took his place. It was in the 80s.
The fact that he said rock and roll is dead.... I almost cried and no it will never die I’m listening to kiss Rn on Spotify
He's right though it's doesn't mean he can't come back to life but think about it what new giant band is playing stadiums around the country or around the world right now that's new within the last 10 years I don't mean as part of a show with a bunch of other bands??? He mentioned the Foo fighters right they're a great band Dave grohl but they've been around a long time
Gene is a great man he deserves all he has rock on buddy your band made me a drummer , thanks for it all buddy 👍
I can't be the only one who thought that he was going to say that Kiss was the last great rock band. lol
So did i.. lol
They were never great
Yea dude KISS is garbage
Gene actually looks good, looks like he lost some weight.
His weight has always bounced up & down over the decades!
Yeah he lost some weight. But just wait until after the new farewell tour. That will put some bread on the shelves again.
@@snakemasterthorno dude, that was funny

Its like the store that has been going out of business for decades.
Yeah like the old Electronic stores with the big "Close out Liquidation Sale!" banners up for 3 or 4 years. I wish they would do a real final farewell tour since Paul is not even really singing anymore. Sponsored by Preparation H.
Great interview. ! Thnax. grew up during your beginning. when you played. Hartland. Michigan. Ice rink back in. 1973.... God love. Kiss 🇺🇸
Both these guys are awesome! Great interview, video!
Would be interesting to hear what Gene thinks TODAY in 2022 about all that “Mr. President, respect the office, respect the electoral college” stuff.
Gene's face at the end. He looks pissed he got cut off. Was actually a nice story.
I Always thought he was the most conceded man I ever heard, but now I hear wisdom.
He probably was at one time, from what I have heard, but yeah, he is more wise now. Not judging, I might have been too if I were in KISS back in the 70s.
I might concede your point, but my conceit prevents that. Get it ? Got it? Good.

As a young boy in 1980, Kiss was my appetizer, and then I found Rush.
One of the most interesting and insightful interviews,;now I have such a different understanding of Mr. Simmons, thank you.
Two of my faves. Great job, los dos.

The new farewell tour is so successful that kiss is going out on top
Bring back Rock 'n' Roll and the record business! Give bands a chance! Allow them to grow. C'mon people! NEW LEGENDS. LETS DO IT!
p.s. KISS were on their 4th album in 1975 when the band broke and became superstars.
What a nice real interview. Gene is an amazing human.

Dude I’m 33 and consider myself pretty well versed in music and old school Hollywood and I never heard of a other, older actress named gene Simmons. Wow learn something new everyday
This is the best interview with Gene Simmons I have ever listened to. My favorite part is him talking about when he first came to America and how everything was so different from Israel at that time. Gene did extremely well in his career.
He walked on water, n fire n brimstone
With all due respect to Gene's expertise....there are still great bands around.....most of them are in Japan and they may never approach the success of KISS...but there's more to life than being rich
Sad part is he’s absolutely right about the last great rock band. Killers, Blink 182 and GVF certainly are nowhere near as legendary as the Foo Fighters.
No he isn’t.
Gene has always meant that bands can’t make a living in Rock N Roll anymore, from that standpoint he’s 100% right....
I would honestly say Alter Bridge is just as legendary...if a tad underrated
@@aboxofissues1369 bro I kinda get it, but if I was to put anyone it would be the Killers and LINKIN Park.
OASIS, The arctic monkeys, The Verve...
Kiss will never end their farewell tour.....they've been saying farewell for damn near 40 years
And then Covid said “Hang on a second, boys. I got other plans!”
I respect Mr. Gene Simmons for his honest story I glad I grew up in KISS 8track tape era 1973-1979. The music industry is destroyed and gone forever he is 100% right. Gene Simmons buys Bitcoin too

Very intelligent . 👍🏻
The “Rock Star” in this case is also a philosopher, a theologian, was a teacher (pre-KISS), and is just all around with it.
Why isn't he wearing shades anymore?
As a capitalist and entrepreneur I can get onboard with Gene's principles, work ethic and determination. He's right when he states a lot of it is good luck and timing - but the major component is hard work and diligence. I started my first company in 1999 and worked 16 hour days for many years to make it successful. Sure, we had setbacks and pitfalls...but each time we stuck to it while regaining momentum. People scoff at Gene's ego and what they wrongly perceive as salacious greed - and that's their problem, not his. Ego is an integral part of the driving force behind success.
This was great! Love Gene's story.
My first time seeing KISS was mid/late 80's: Ted Nugent opened: and Ted was amazing!!!!!! Totally, a better performance than KISS. 35 years later, I saw KISS in Raleigh, and it was truly, "the best".
I was lucky enough to see both, on more than one occasion. 👍
Ted WAS amazing!!
I would love to see the unedited version of this.

Yaaay! Another KISS farewell tour. For those who didn't get a chance to see one of their other farewell tours.
Really deep moment at 12:26 - Gene talking about his Grandmothers last words gets skipped over by the totally souless/spiritually inept interviewer. Great words of wisdom from Gene which I wouldn't have expected years ago.
Yeah the interviewers response and look on his face after what Gene said didn't really seem appropriate for the gravity of that story. Then the automatic 180 of to a way lighter subject made it feel worse.
Gene was or maybe still is the highest rated interview in NPR radio history.I remember listening to it. btw the Wright Bros Bicycle shop was in Dayton, OH for their inventions. Kitty Hawk had ocean breezes and sand and was close enough that's why they flew the first time there. they made no inventions there. NC first in flight. Dayton, Oh birthplace of aviation. but I take his meaning.
No Gene, rock is not dead. AC/DC dropped a new album that just saved 2020
Gene Simmons has had a glorious and spectacular career as a bass guitar performer for all these years, especially in the 1970's. I rank him as the 6th greatest bass performer of all time:
#1. Paul McCartney
#2. Peter Cetera
#3. Greg Lake
#4. John Paul Jones
#5. John Entwistle
#6. Gene Simmons
#7. Sting
#8. Chris Squire
#9. Bill Wyman
#10. Geddy Lee
First McCartney?.🤢🤮
@The Wraith It is the total package that counts. Gene was a totally original bass performer who played with tremendous energy and expressive power. And Gene was a great lead singer and front man.

Dennis Miller is one of the most awkward interviewers. His fake laugh and irrelevant interruptions just ruin any interview I’ve ever seen him give.
Maybe you seen all his bad ones, Dennis is a cool dude!
@@leekenney9214 Maybe it’s just my taste. He comes across as always desperately trying to fit in with the person he’s interviewing. It reminds me of a freshman in high school trying to be accepted and fit in with a group of upper class man and trying to sound cool without really being cool by using words like Groovy and Dame.
@@Cards-In-The-Closet well he is a entertainer, and we all kinda change up for different situations.. I know I do.. easy example is I don’t cuss at my grams house.. or no homophobic jokes around someone who is.. I admit he does try to hard at times but overall he’s a pretty entertaining person..
My wife & I saw KISS on their farewell tour...in 2000.
Gene's show from Amstwrdam where he and Shannon visited the Anne Frank house was one of the most important T.V. segments I've ever seen. I broke down right along with him while I watched. 😭 ❤
Gene Simmons eyes light up likes a replicant.
Gene is channeling Cyndi Lauper at the “We Are The World” recording session, when her clanging bracelets prompted a retake.

He’s looking great ,thanks for the Glasgow show totally amazing...👍
He was very proud of himself for that double entendre 7:57 😂
Gene takes a lot of credit but it was Paul that kept KISS going in the 80's. I met Gene Pre-Show back stage during Hot in the Shade and he was pretty cool. Talked to me for about 5 minutes. Bruce Kulick is another classy guy but he would never have looked good in the make up eras. Goes to show you that in Rock & Roll staying away from drugs means that you are still coherrent when you get older unlike Ozzy & Keith Richards.
That was the time when Gene was trying to start an acting career. I prefer those albums when Paul was running the show as well, particularly Asylum.
@@Dehmitz I remember Gene's acting career with the exception of "Trick or Treat" it was pretty unmemorable. I liked Animalize better than Asylum but Crazy Nights is among the bottom. I liked the Elder more than I liked Crazy Nights. The Elder was not what Kiss should have released at that time but it was good just different.
To be fair, Ozzy & Keef never sounded hugely coherent to begin with.
@@aflsteve9139 true, you could tell that at least Gene finished High School and went to College.
How many farewell tours are they going to have?
Gene is a great marketer of product. KISS merchandise sells almost as much as Star Wars toys and gear. They have made a mint from their personas, image and Logo. Probably millions.
Simmons has achieved the American Dream and as he states this is the Promised Land. The Land of Milk and Honey.
Ace left on his own twice. Peter was fired twice. Get it right Gene!
Right on all but Peter the last time. Peter wanted an equal share of the money & they didn’t renew his contract!
Ace did quit the band twice and Peter came back after they fired him but Peter came back focus and determined to make it right but the two barmiztfa boys CHEATED THE CRAP OUT OF HIM and when Peter started to fight for his rights they threw him under the bus. So happy that Ace and Peter were inducted into the hall, instead of the two "Mimics" that imitate every move that they did.
Money before the music. Something they've has always lived by. Go KISS
When people are raised in poverty/difficult times, the issue of money becomes critical to survival, my father was raised that way in Mexico city, he came to what he called "the greatest country in the world", America and he did very well, started his own company, yet he was always very careful and sensitive about the topic of money, he would pick up a dime if he saw one on the street and just like Gene, he had deep respect for veterans, the flag meant something very important to him, only immigrants can truly appreciate the greatness of America
what a great interview!!!
Nice show! I enjoyed Gene's perspective.
An old interview but a good one!
Great freaking interview, Dennis Miller did a good job
Say what you want about Gene, but I am so glad he lived the American dream and was able to provide for his mother the way she deserved. I am Jewish, so his story has always touched my heart. Since I was 12 (I’m 61 now), KISS has been a part of my life. I remember driving to Cactus Records and Tapes, when I was 16, to see Paul. My mother let me miss school to get KISS concert tickets. I went to a meet and greet in Houston. Peter Criss was there. It was an outside venue, and it rained. By the time I got backstage, I looked like a drowned rat. I was so worried I was going to be disappointed, but I wasn’t. Such nice people.

One might sense a bit a lack of depth in the interviewer's character based on the depth of knowledge and experience, and also the confidence Gene is talking about things. Monumental figure.
Great story. People come from around the world to get in this country. Unfortunately there are some rotten apples trying to spoil it right now.
This is what the 25th farewell tour? It's a genius way to have everyone think it's the last time they can see kiss.
