Qui-Gon was and still is my absolute favorite Jedi. He followed the force like one follows their beliefs or religion, he didn’t merely bend the force to his will like the rest of the Jedi. He let the force guide his actions and ultimately let the force decide his fate.
There's a theory that he saw the future, knew he had to die to let everything happen the way it did so Vader could kill Sideous. He was also the first force ghost in that Era cause of his connection with the force and he tought it to Yoda I believe who then tought Obi-Wan or vise versa
He also would've beat maul in a duel but his stance isn't good in small areas which is why maul lured them in there. Also maul is hunting him the whole movie because he's the only one strong enough in the force to see through Palpatines illusion. One of the only jedi that could've foiled Palpatines decades of planning
I disagree with the religion part, religion and faith are two different things. Religion is adherence to dogma which Qui Gon did not do. Faith is the adherence to a personal experience of spirituality which Qui Gon did practice.
Qui-Gon is, without a doubt, the one character I would wish to meet and sit down with to talk about all sorts of things with in the SW galaxy. (within his timeline that is)

Qui-Gon almost fell to the darkside too after falling in love with a Jedi who died, and Obi-Wan would've left the order for Satine. The two weren't really that different. Also I hear "father figure" too much, Jedi don't need father figures, they need mentors. Obi-Wan didn't have one, in fact he was placed with Qui-Gon because their renegade natures matched, but it forced Obi-Wan to start being the more reasonable of the two, so Qui-Gon wasn't his father figure, he definitely wouldn't be Anakins, he'd be his enabler which would move him into bad habits a whole lot sooner.

All the failures of Qui Gon including almost falling to the dark side due to losing the one he loved only brings him closer to being able to relate to Anakin as he also lost his mom, was tempted by the dark side and feared losing padmae. Qui Gon navigated through and ultimately rose above it all. As for the father figure stand point, that is mainly because Anakin just didn't have a father to begin with so this would also allow him to become closer with Qui Gon. All of the qualities and life experiences that linked qui and obi are very similar to qui Gon and Anakin. Both Anakin and Jinn lost someone they loved, were tempted by the dark side, saw legitimate reasons to want to leave the order. There's so much common ground that when palpatine tempted Anakin, he would have felt comfortable enough to confide in qui Gon jinn his doubts and insecurities in turn letting his would be master in this scenario help him navigate through his inner conflictions

It's possible he had grown as a person and was in a better position to teach Anakin than he had been w the previous apprentice. It definitely seems like he was more aware of the dangers this time and ready to make sure he guided Anakin well. He'd have a better idea how to prevent his fall in theory

A father figure was part of the issue, while MOST Jedi don't need a father figure, Anakin isn't most Jedi. Where the Jedi adhered strictly to their code and shunned the Dark, going so far to as to suppress any teaching of it, Qui-Gon served the Force and had no issues teaching what the Force dictated. Qui Gon noticed the darkness in Anakin early, and would have been able to teach him how to manage and control it, unlike the Jedi who told him to suppress it and ignore its existence. Fear was always Anakins greatest enemy, and Qui Gon was really the only person who could have helped Anakin at that phase. MAYBE Mace Windu could have as well, but it's hard to say.
This actually makes Qui-Gon seem more qualified to have been Anakin’s mentor. The fact he succeeded with training two apprentices and failing with one makes it seem he has enough experience handling Jedi of different temperaments he knows where he did right but also aware of his failures and mistakes so if he was going to train Anakin and knowing he made mistakes with Xanatos Qui-Gon would know what to do differently training Anakin. Sadly since this is the ‘non-canon Legends’ stuff it will no doubt be ignored and Qui-Gon Jinn will be touted as a glorified saint that can do no wrong all because it came from Filoni’s mouth. I respect the man for making Clone Wars as that was what got me into Star Wars as a whole but I find it hard to believe that people who bashed Qui-Gon for years suddenly say he would have saved Anakin all because Dave Filoni said it himself without any concrete proof in the story even in most iterations that detail Anakin’s life tv shows comics or any story involving his Jedi training doesn’t show that Anakin had any feelings about Qui-Gon after he was dead or at least enough to give the impression Qui-Gon was someone Anakin cared for. The closest was where in the non-canon Clone Wars series, the 2D series made in the early 2000s when Anakin angrily yells at Obi-Wan that despite his wisdom ‘he’s no Qui-Gon Jinn’ and while it may seem Anakin is being hurtful it shows that Qui-Gon was someone important to Anakin for him to make that statement and shows how even years later Anakin missed Qui-Gon.
That is a good point. But Another way you could view it. He successfully accepted the total of three apprentices, where two of them ended up on the dark side.
I think that either Qui-Gon or Mace Windu would have been best for Anakin. I think Vaapad would have given Anakin an unbeatable technique that harnessed all of his special force abilities and total tenacity in a light sabre duel.
I mean, I felt like Qui-Gon would've been better for Anakin before I ever even saw Dave Filoni's Clone Wars. It feels pretty well hinted at in the Phantom Menace... I dunno, just saying, there were some of us that really liked Qui-Gon before.

Her leaving the temple I understand and even her not contacting Anakin since she probably didn't even know what she was fighting for or still looking for answers.
As with any teacher / student relationship (or parent / child, for that matter), there comes a point where the student is responsible for their own successes and failures. That said, every parent of someone who grew up to be a monster can't help but feel shame and blame themselves. no matter what point the child turns from the path the parent tried to put them on.
Overall, I agree. However, the foundation the teachings are supposed to instill is what guides the choices of the student. It's kinda like the karate kid there is no such thing as a bad student only a bad teacher
The books containing Xanatos not only changed the way I saw Qui Gon but Obi Wan as well. It was such an interesting series in general and I have fond memories of reading it in my childhood!

Qui-Gon is one of my favorites and this is a great back story, and you make a good case for it being his greatest failure, but I still think his biggest mistake was letting Anakin know that he was the chosen one. He should have told very few, maybe even just Obi-Wan and Yoda. Much is said about how fear, anger, and even attachment can all lead to the dark side, but it's seems clear that arrogance is almost always a major factor despite rarely being mentioned. Many people say Qui-Gon could have kept Anakin from falling to the dark side if he hadn't been killed by Maul, and maybe they're right. But knowing you're the 'chosen one' would simultaneously put massive pressure on you and make it nearly impossible to avoid having a massive ego. I think keeping that a secret, at least until he was mature enough to handle it better, would have instilled enough humility for Obi-Wan to have at least had a fighting chance at keeping him from the dark side. Of all the factors that combined to lead Anakin to becoming Vader, this is the only one Qui-Gon had complete control over, and he absolutely made the wrong call. (IMHO)
Love this. I think this would have made an incredible story film of some sort. Even computer animated version. One thing I'd like is a "What if scenario" where Anakin becomes a Dark Jedi, but never joins the Sith, but maybe early on chasing his passions.
There's no such thing as grays, dude. Jinn just actually followed the will of the force, unlike most Jedi who, being raised in a dogma, don't think too hard about why their order is such a political institution.
I would say, it was the first few years of obi-wans training. It was almost like he choose the answer most likely to make obi wan question many many things and never even explaining parts of training he REALLY should have, like why the other padawnas were moving on to other forms and why he wanted obi-wan to focus on the more basic lightsaber style/maneuvers
QuiGon should’ve been the one to train Anakin. Don’t get me wrong… Obi Wan was a good mentor to Anakin. And a good brother. But Anakin needed more of a father figure. And QuiGon was the perfect father figure.

Xanatos kind of reminds me of Dooku. Both were born into wealthy Powerful families and both would return to claim their families legacies. I wonder if Xanatos would have caught Dooku’s internet if he had lived untill the clones wars where he may have seen him as an potential Alley and Darkside apprentice. There would also be that sentimental factor with Xanato being Qui Gon’s apprentice
I like how the story of Zanatos (Xanatos?) mirrors Anakin's story. It also kind of tells us what would have happened if Qui-Gonn was on Mustafar instead of Obi-Wan.
His biggest mistake was that he chose to defy all that he believed in and his belief in The Force when he forced the dice to roll a winning roll to take Anakin away. My belief is by doing that, he contradicted his entire ethic of leaving everything to the desire of The Force and in doing so, it was then that The Force began to balance in favor of The Dark Side. If he had not forced the dice, he would still have won if the boy was truly the chosen one and The Force had wanted it. I think that is the beginning of Qui-Gon's demise. Even so, he is my favourite Jedi.
The ones who really try to help and always see the good in people never cease to be the one's who get villainized the most. Let's talk about the guy who pretty much pupettered and brainwashed an entire generation of a goodness culture, and used all of them to his advantage.
I think giving a undecisive, unstable and arrogant kid a ultimatum as a last test of loyalty is really stupid so the council is more to blame than Qui-Gon.
Sometimes a "rotten egg" is just a rotten egg. You can't do anything with it except toss it out. (which in this case, it tossed itself) This wasn't a failure of teaching, it was a failure of learning. \m/
I feel bad for Xanatos because he didn't have to go through so much pain and trauma over what Qui Gon did to him. I just wished that he and Obi Wan would get along. Xanatos would've been the one to cloud Anakin's mind to the Dark side.
Q: Was Qui-Gon Jinn responsible for Xanatos fall to the darkside. Or partially, for Anakin's? A: Not directly because both of them had high force potential they would have likely used it anyway without training. The Sith would have also, likely, found them and trained them to be the next in line of the Rule of Two. Qui-Gon Jinn tried to train Xanatos to be a Jedi but this apprentice craved more prestige and power. This could be a inherent character flaw or a case of absolute power corrupts absolutely. Probably, both. Qui-Gon is no more responsible for another’s actions than anyone would be. For the theory that if Qui-Gon didn't die, Anakin would have been trained to a point where he wouldn't do evil; the Xanatos apprenticeship shoots that theory down. Anakin tells Padme he craves power and prestige in the Prequels. It goes to his head that he is the Chosen one and he destroys everything he supposedly cared about to gain power, especially Padme. Anakin turns to the dark side and tells Obi-Wan, "I am not your failure... you didn't kill Anakin... I did." And it's that moment he chooses to be Vader. I personally think Anakin's slavery as a child, the way him and his mother were treated, the fact the Jedi didn't handle his situation well is the environmental push towards his descent to the dark side but he also might have been mentally ill and also suffering from various forms of untreated PTSD. In the end we all make choices that can create value, or destroy ourselves and harm the ones we love. We are responsible for our own fate so Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are guilty of thinking something was wrong with the way the mentored their respective padawans. The Jedi were guilty of being warriors instead of peacemakers and they made blundering decisions galore. They did not see the evil under their noses until it was too late. The Force seems to only want balance so too many of either dark or light users makes it re-balance itself. It works to constantly do this and neither side seems to get this...
The difference is Xanatos had more family he was aware of then Anakin did his parents and his siblings he left behind and he was born in a family of wealth and power while Anakin only had himself and His Parent and I guess 3PO too and Anakin was a slave not born into a family of riches and high power plus Qui Gon had less experience when he had Xanatos then he got Obi Wan and then later found Anakin so plus Anakin craved a Father Figure and Qui Gon before his death filled that role then once he got executed Palpatine took over had Qui Gon lived Anakin would of had the Father Figure he needed and wanted and as a bonus this Father Figure would of eventually freed Anakins Mother afterall he believed in following the wills of the living force over the code or council or republic so if Anakin told him the force was giving him visions then Qui Gon would of had himself and Anakin go to Tatooine to check up on things and possibly fix stuff yeah.

Not really, finding Anakin was the will of the force. Fans forget that Anakin was the chosen one that would destroy the Sith. Exactly what he did when he tossed Palpatine down the chasm on the second death star to save Luke. He fulfilled his destiny and turned to the light side of the force just before he died. Disregarding Disney resurrecting Sidious for the travesty trilogy.

If Qui-gon was still alive things would have probably been very different and he would probably been less influenced to join the darkside.

Technically Obi-Wan wasn't his last apprentice because he trains Yoda and Ben to become force ghosts.
Obi-Wan is Ben Kenobi and he didn't teach Yoda to do force ghost, Yoda taught Obi Wan.

Qui-Gon is one of my favorites and this is a great back story, and you make a good case for it being his greatest failure, but I still think his biggest mistake was letting Anakin know that he was the chosen one. He should have told very few, maybe even just Obi-Wan and Yoda. Much is said about how fear, anger, and even attachment can all lead to the dark side, but it's seems clear that arrogance is almost always a major factor despite rarely being mentioned. Many people say Qui-Gon could have kept Anakin from falling to the dark side if he hadn't been killed by Maul, and maybe they're right. But knowing you're the 'chosen one' would simultaneously put massive pressure on you and make it nearly impossible to avoid having a massive ego. I think keeping that a secret, at least until he was mature enough to handle it better, would have instilled enough humility for Obi-Wan to have at least had a fighting chance at keeping him from the dark side. Of all the factors that combined to lead Anakin to becoming Vader, this is the only one Qui-Gon had complete control over, and he absolutely made the wrong call. (IMHO)
Love this. I think this would have made an incredible story film of some sort. Even computer animated version.
One thing I'd like is a "What if scenario" where Anakin becomes a Dark Jedi, but never joins the Sith, but maybe early on chasing his passions.
Anakin's fate was sealed when Qui Gon died.
Technically, for the shortest almost non existent time, qi gon did take upon Anakin therefore 4 people, counting that short time with Anakin...

There's no such thing as grays, dude. Jinn just actually followed the will of the force, unlike most Jedi who, being raised in a dogma, don't think too hard about why their order is such a political institution.
Qui-Gan Jin is the pinnacle of what being a Jedi was about. Him and Plo Koon are the by far the greatest Jedi there was.

I would say, it was the first few years of obi-wans training. It was almost like he choose the answer most likely to make obi wan question many many things and never even explaining parts of training he REALLY should have, like why the other padawnas were moving on to other forms and why he wanted obi-wan to focus on the more basic lightsaber style/maneuvers

QuiGon should’ve been the one to train Anakin. Don’t get me wrong… Obi Wan was a good mentor to Anakin. And a good brother. But Anakin needed more of a father figure. And QuiGon was the perfect father figure.
Right on! Yes Qui-Gon was the one who should've lived to train Anakin and be a father figure to him as well. Obi-Wan was more of an older brother who was very strict on him.

Xanatos kind of reminds me of Dooku. Both were born into wealthy Powerful families and both would return to claim their families legacies. I wonder if Xanatos would have caught Dooku’s internet if he had lived untill the clones wars where he may have seen him as an potential Alley and Darkside apprentice. There would also be that sentimental factor with Xanato being Qui Gon’s apprentice

I like how the story of Zanatos (Xanatos?) mirrors Anakin's story. It also kind of tells us what would have happened if Qui-Gonn was on Mustafar instead of Obi-Wan.

Blame the Jedi Counsel for keeping Xanatos and making him Jins Padawan. They knew he had too much attachment from the very beginning.

I don't see any of it as a failure for Qui-gon - if his second apprentice chose the dark side, he chose the dark side. It's on him.
His biggest mistake was that he chose to defy all that he believed in and his belief in The Force when he forced the dice to roll a winning roll to take Anakin away. My belief is by doing that, he contradicted his entire ethic of leaving everything to the desire of The Force and in doing so, it was then that The Force began to balance in favor of The Dark Side. If he had not forced the dice, he would still have won if the boy was truly the chosen one and The Force had wanted it. I think that is the beginning of Qui-Gon's demise. Even so, he is my favourite Jedi.

The ones who really try to help and always see the good in people never cease to be the one's who get villainized the most. Let's talk about the guy who pretty much pupettered and brainwashed an entire generation of a goodness culture, and used all of them to his advantage.
I think giving a undecisive, unstable and arrogant kid a ultimatum as a last test of loyalty is really stupid so the council is more to blame than Qui-Gon.

I feel bad for Xanatos because he didn't have to go through so much pain and trauma over what Qui Gon did to him. I just wished that he and Obi Wan would get along. Xanatos would've been the one to cloud Anakin's mind to the Dark side.

A: Not directly because both of them had high force potential they would have likely used it anyway without training. The Sith would have also, likely, found them and trained them to be the next in line of the Rule of Two.
Qui-Gon Jinn tried to train Xanatos to be a Jedi but this apprentice craved more prestige and power. This could be a inherent character flaw or a case of absolute power corrupts absolutely. Probably, both. Qui-Gon is no more responsible for another’s actions than anyone would be.
For the theory that if Qui-Gon didn't die, Anakin would have been trained to a point where he wouldn't do evil; the Xanatos apprenticeship shoots that theory down. Anakin tells Padme he craves power and prestige in the Prequels. It goes to his head that he is the Chosen one and he destroys everything he supposedly cared about to gain power, especially Padme.
Anakin turns to the dark side and tells Obi-Wan, "I am not your failure... you didn't kill Anakin... I did." And it's that moment he chooses to be Vader.
I personally think Anakin's slavery as a child, the way him and his mother were treated, the fact the Jedi didn't handle his situation well is the environmental push towards his descent to the dark side but he also might have been mentally ill and also suffering from various forms of untreated PTSD.
In the end we all make choices that can create value, or destroy ourselves and harm the ones we love. We are responsible for our own fate so Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan are guilty of thinking something was wrong with the way the mentored their respective padawans.
The Jedi were guilty of being warriors instead of peacemakers and they made blundering decisions galore. They did not see the evil under their noses until it was too late.
The Force seems to only want balance so too many of either dark or light users makes it re-balance itself. It works to constantly do this and neither side seems to get this...
Having a good father or brother can't save you from the repercussions of a bad government, basically.
The difference is Xanatos had more family he was aware of then Anakin did his parents and his siblings he left behind and he was born in a family of wealth and power while Anakin only had himself and His Parent and I guess 3PO too and Anakin was a slave not born into a family of riches and high power plus Qui Gon had less experience when he had Xanatos then he got Obi Wan and then later found Anakin so plus Anakin craved a Father Figure and Qui Gon before his death filled that role then once he got executed Palpatine took over had Qui Gon lived Anakin would of had the Father Figure he needed and wanted and as a bonus this Father Figure would of eventually freed Anakins Mother afterall he believed in following the wills of the living force over the code or council or republic so if Anakin told him the force was giving him visions then Qui Gon would of had himself and Anakin go to Tatooine to check up on things and possibly fix stuff yeah.

Not really, finding Anakin was the will of the force. Fans forget that Anakin was the chosen one that would destroy the Sith. Exactly what he did when he tossed Palpatine down the chasm on the second death star to save Luke. He fulfilled his destiny and turned to the light side of the force just before he died. Disregarding Disney resurrecting Sidious for the travesty trilogy.
@@dudejrryan Not quite. The Prophecy said he would bring g balance to the Force. The Jedi thought it meant that he would destroy the Sith, because they were so blinded by their own arrogance that they couldn't conceive of themselves being what kept the Force out of balance.
Also, Palpatine's revival wasn't just Disney it also happened in Legends, though there was a lot more to it in Legends. And there CERTAINLY wasn't any "granddaughter" bs. I don't even hate the concept of a hidden family, I just hate Rey. She did nothing to earn her powers and just pulls out op bs after op bs in a desperate attempt to try and make her interesting. Disney should have just stuck to Legends and been done with it
