Hi Keith. Thank you for providing this tutorial. I hope you are still active in maintaining these videos. May I know more about the rarefaction curve that was generated? Why does PAST not showing a full graph of all the samples? Or the graphs is already the full representation of all the data? Can we then proceed with our interpretation based on the graph that has been made? In your sample data, with the graph showing only up to 27, is it enough to make an interpretation that there are other species that might not have been detected? I ask this because I also tried using PAST for my data. I had 6 species and 24 samples (the daily trapping effort), and PAST would only show a curve up to 7 samples. I hope you can clarify.
Hello Keith. Thank you for this great video. I'm a phD student and it's my first time using PAST software. I want to do PERMANOVA analysis for my microbiome data but when i try to do the analysis, a message pops up and says ''zero within-group sum of square'' and it doesn't allow me to continue. Can you help me to solve this problem? Thank you in advance
Sorry I can't do more but it's some time since I did any of this. The PAST manuel doesn't help. The best I found were the books that came with PRIMER/PERMANOVA.
Dear Keith, Very nice and informative video. Can you please tell me how to indicate missing values in past? Should we leave it blank or something else? Thank you in advance.
+Adriane Tobias The data table should have the taxa as the rows and the columns as the different samples. If you want to group samples from a site, do totals in a spreadsheet before pasting into PAST. Diversity wants the data table rotated compared to the format used for other analyses.
Thank you so much Sir McGuinness. I would like to hear some of your recommendations. I have data regarding the number of species per Quadrat and the elevation. What are the possible statistics that I can use for my study. Thank you so much.
+Adriane Tobias You need to ask specific questions or propose particular hypotheses (to test). And these must be appropriate for the data. Then you can determine what statistical methods to use. Unfortunately, I do not have time to provide further advice on this.
Hello Keith, Can you make a video about TAXDTEST and the interpretation? Thanks

I am reired. Try googling "rarefraction ecology".
Thanks a lot

Sorry, retired, with no access to software.
@@kamcgnt Ok, thank you very much.
I have a vague memory that one of my other videos may deal with this. Unfortunately, I can't remember how.

Does anyone know how to calculate standing diversity using the range-through method?
How we can estimating species indicator by using Past 4 ?
I am retired! Sorry! No access to software or manuals. Try searching "species indicator past".
... on RUclips, I should add.
it is very helpfull thanks for it.

How to input data for the computation of diversity indices? Thanks.

very helpful indeed, thanks! (:
+JA B Thanks.
+Keith McGuinness Don't feel like doing my butterfly biodiversity coursework for me do you? ;) hahaha
+JA B Nope! And I'm on vacation. Anyway, got to work with my students on their biodiversity projects.
