About 15 years ago I bought one of those 10hp Chinese Diesels... got her up and running just like you did. I hooked it up to a Harbor Freight 10,000 watt generator head, mounted them both on a small utility trailer. Ran it for about 5 years on 100% Veggie oil. Never gave me any problems until I blew a head gasket.. Easy fix ! Cylinder head looked clean as a whistle too !
Thanks for watching. I used to run mine on vegie oil but the injection pump would get sized if it sat unused for month or so. Only run off road in it now.
@@kevincrawford2027 Mix small amount of MMO in veggie oil...or thin with peanut oil whichever is cheaper. Early diesels were designed to burn nut oils or bio fuel.
Veggie oil... I remember my old gas tractor could be ran on gas or kerosene.. I had 2 tanks and 2 fuel switches... did you have to add anything to the Veggie oil
Be cautious. i ran mine today and it dropped the exhaust valve, thankfully it did no severe damage and i had to pull the head to re attach exhaust valve assembly.
It's actually better to run it full governed speed during break-in. As the piston rings scrape against the cross-hatch, you want to move that ridgeline up as high as possible. To do that, you want the engine to see full RPM during that process. I would warm it up, then change the oil. After that, run it for a full tank of fuel.(Could take several hours, diesel engines are more fuel efficient than gasoline) then, change the oil again. At that point, the engine is ready to go to work. Load it for ~5 hours, change the oil again, and after that, go to the normal recommended oil change interval. A good break-in and early and frequent oil changes in the beginning is the difference between a 400 hour and a 4,000 hour engine!
These chinese diesel wont run 4000 hours. Probably more like 1000 hours i guess. Saw a video about someone with a different chinese Diesel using it as generator he said after 700 hours it started to burn oil. If you need an engine for long life, you should buy a Hatz Diesel, heard one running for over 49.000 hours.
I had 10hp one mounted in an 8 wheel Argo. It was essentially a Yanmar clone. Air filter, fuel filter etc , was all the same as Yanmar. Was like a tank, almost unstoppable, but too slow. Got a lot of looks and enquiries though.
After draining oil, fill 20%, dry crank engine to wash engine, drain it and refill to full. You rinse that dirty oil with clean oil, new oil stays clear longer!
just bought one popped it out of the box drained oil out ..added the same motor craft 10w 30 oil in diesel in ... yea the priming the diesel is key ..it wont just start without kickin my rump on the compression snatching the rope back .. had the whole engine heald up by the rope start ..fipping the compression release down before every pull gets tiresome quick...gunna bolt it on a old garden tractor tomorrow and prime the fuel line
That's a neat little one! Almost looks like a honda clone but its a Diesel! I like how the air filter looks like an oil bath air filter, that's kinda neat! Also, I wonder what the wing nut on the top of the muffler is for? Does it come apart for some reason? Will be neat to see what you guys end up doing with it! Maybe you need to put a big flywheel on the output to see how slow you can get it to chug lol!
Can this be made into water cooled by adding an water jacket to the cylinder? I think I could weld aluminum jockey to the cylinder to harvest that heat.
I’ve owned a lot of boats over the years , and tried almost all the Oil Changing systems at one time or another there is one made by Tempst that works on a Manual Hand Pump that creates a Vacumn and it comes with a decent assortment of pick up tubes some fairly skinny i mention this because that system must had expired on the Patent nd now the Chinese have been cloning them with all different brands and colors might be a good one to suck out hreCrankcase oil on those motors from new nd /or something you could use ft er the motor is mounted into whatever project you put it in FYI it does have a ContainedCanister for the usedOil and i’ve been ble to do some pretty clean oil changes in a couple of my Vessels the Canister also includes a pour spout for transferring it into other containers in my Area some of the Marinas and Servie Sttions for no charge will properly dispose or recycle used Motor Oil for free nd that what i do with mine it’s actually a State run Program that’s Federally subsidized to keep the Oceans and Watersheds clean of Hzaedous Contanimants
I got one that looks exactly the same as yours I'm doing a full tare down on it and I was wondering how is yours doing? From looking at the components inside they look like decently well built engines but the quality control was terrible as well as the worst most pathetic excuse for engine oil i have ever seen! I had everything from finger tight bolts to bolts that were so over tightened that the lock washer was beyond flattened and had a metal shaving that could have came off into the OHV and threads on bolts that were polled! Nothing that wasn't fixable but I think if I wouldn't have taken mine apart it wouldn't have taken long before something to go wrong as well as the torque specifications were all over the place. But as long as the quality control is taken care of I think they will last a long time they're great little engines I wish Kohler or yanmar could make one like this that was exactly affordable I would buy one in a heart beat.
So far so good. I haven't run it a lot. I did pull the side cover off and found minor swarf inside. Even starts fairly easy when around freezing. Good luck with yours.
Well in thailand here we have small diesel engine from Kubota we used in iron buffalo tractor. Very affordable and also easy to use as well. Very reliable too as I had used for around 20 or 30 years
Check your valve clearance. If the valves have too little gap, there's a lot of valve overlap. That reduces the chamber compression pressure, reducing the temperature rise @ top dead center. That makes it difficult to reach a high enough temperature for auto-ignition. If possible, try blowing a hair drier or heat gun into the intake. The compression will multiply the temperature of the intake air, making it possible to start, even if the compression isn't that great.

You can direct the exhaust to where you want by loosening the wing nut.
On of my go-carts is getting a diesel LOL.

I think yanmar does make one this size, but if not, they definitely make a 5hp/one size up from this engine.

Check your valve clearance. If the valves have too little gap, there's a lot of valve overlap. That reduces the chamber compression pressure, reducing the temperature rise @ top dead center. That makes it difficult to reach a high enough temperature for auto-ignition.
If possible, try blowing a hair drier or heat gun into the intake. The compression will multiply the temperature of the intake air, making it possible to start, even if the compression isn't that great.
Is it possible to turn that into an electric start?
Never seen any with electric start.
Ive seen bigger models with electric start there like 500$ on amazon
