The Evo mr9 6 speed is actually the less desirable transmission, Mitsubishi outsourced the transmission production to another Asian company, & the 6 speed are known to break gears if the car is modified beyond 400 or so bhp, giving that trans the “made of glass” moniker. The 5 speed in the Evo GSR is actually a stronger transmission and less prone to damage, capable of handling more power with a modified engine, despite its gear set. Also, the 6 speed was only restricted to the MR9 for the US market, European, Asian & Aussie markets had access to the RS with a 6 speed
This. I bought my GSR in 05 instead of the MR cause the. Transmission was more fragile. I still to this day get confused driving my friends six speed hyundai.
@Lassi Kinnunen Closer ratios keep the boost level up because its easier to stay in the sweet spot rev wise. I'm not sure its as applicable to US drivers due to how the US road networks arranged. They'd be more suited to Japanese/Euro side roads with winding twisty bits kinda like a special stage.
Having the gearbox as the weakest component its some serious oversight by Ralliart, you'd want it to be something cheap and easily accessible that fails first like a driveshaft. My neighbour back in the day had an Evo 6 which he played with extensively. When he'd finished it had a sequential box and an anti lag system. It was oh so loud and fast with a serious thirst for 99 ron.
If you have the chance, drive the EVO on a twisty mountain road. The way this thing handles through the bends and is able to accelerate out of tight corners is amazing.
I want that wheel for my Evo! I taught my wife and other friends how to drive manual in my Evo. She calls it a deathbox on wheels 😐. My grandparents hated my RS until I brought them to church in a snowstorm. Right after I pulled out of the driveway I did a couple donuts with them inside and they loved it after that.
I had a 02 Lancer OZ Rally edition that I poured a lot of time and money into. I drove that car to the 300,000 mile mark without major issues with the engine and trans. That car saw each and every terrain I could throw at it and it never complained. That was until the rear oil seal blew and that set the entire engine on fire destroying everything in the engine bay. Me not being Tavarish I didn't look at it as my next project so the poor thing ended it's long life there. Still to this day I miss it and seeing the interior of the car in this video brought back a lot of memories. Thanks Tavarish for the trip down memory lane and keep up the good work.

I think the sedan boot gets in the way of the rear wiper usually. My details are probably not complete accurate but it has something to do with that.
Yep, love my Mitsu's.... but yeah they're falling right off the map this last decade. :( They've killed off every car that made the (car division) company great.
Hey, something I actually know about. Those VGs create turbulence in the layer of air next to the car. This keeps the flow from separating from the roof of the car as early, reducing drag, making that rear wiper less necessary, and making the wing more effective.

Hi Tavarish, rear roof mounted vortex generator is there to stabilize the trunk mounted rear spoiler from vibration that happened in precious generations. That aluminum piping under the hood is the intercooler piping (hot side).
I finally got my short term dream car , a mazdaspeed3 (2011) and ive got to say, not having a rear window wiper my entire life, I had no idea how convenient it can be. I was planning on doing a rear wiper delete until I was like hey this is actually awesome.
6 speeds are glass in Evo’s like 5 speeds are glass in WRX’s due to narrower gears. Evo’s don’t have plastic piping for the intercooler, they have aluminium piping with those woven fabric and rubber looking joiners. The ACD works in the opposite fashion to what Tavarish states, in tarmac mode the centre diff is basically locked, in gravel it allows a little slip so the rear doesn’t want to overtake the front constantly on dirt and snow allows significantly more slip. Man, I really wish I can win this. I never won anything in my life. My younger brother just bought a really cool S4 B5 and I want my dream car (Evo9 MR) so bad too. I choose the 6 speed above the 5 Speed because here in Germany you actually need that one more gear to save SOME of your money xD

For people wondering, Matt Farah’s is giving the Lexus to Freddy; and Freddy will turbocharge it, and if motor blows up, then Freddy has to turn the engine block into a coffee table for Matt.
Ayeee Matt's milli Lexus😃 . . . anyways , dude that Evo is gorgeousness🙉🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👌
The Dodge SRT-4 and Lancer EVO are 2 of the most fun sport compacts to ever hit the streets . Both very different but both animals.
Ooff, Prime Driven are moving from Mr Regular to Freddy
I was proud to have owned my 2006 Evo IX MRSE for as long as I have. She was a pure joy to drive. Wish I could've kept her but my salary back then was not up to par on keeping her. Terribly miss it.
Buy it😂😂😂
Charlens davis ➡️ in order for tavarish to buy the car ., it has to have a book 📚 load of problems ., since the car has no problems it’s in almost new condition therefore he’s not buying
Just a point about the rear wiper. At 180mph it flips over due to the wind which I found out in mine on an RAF runway in the UK. We had to gaffer tape it down!!
Hey Tavares huge fan I’m from Jamaica 🇯🇲 lol your video reach far lol, anyways my friend have a evo 3 and he’s kicking over 600hp so a eco 9 can easily surpass that to the wheels😌 what do u think🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
I love that stretch of road. Perfect area to drive that car!
I love an illegal raffle
Frank peterson
🙄 nothing illegal about it.
Nice review!! The respect level for the Evolution is right up there with two giants in the industry, the Supra and the Skyline. I totally understand the driving experience of the Evo. I have an '06 MR (wicked white) First owner. Bought Nov '05. I remember telling the salesman, "I know I want it. I don't need to test drive it." I bought my Evo with 14 miles on the odometer. Awesome car. Put a lot of pricier sports cars to shame for sure :)
Ive had a tuned Evo 8, best car ive ever driven, still cry every day of having to let it go.
6:06 the “lancer gauge” lmao I died with that one 😂😂😂
I actually bought one these Evos when I was younger it was silver with a manual and I loved it was never really a ricer guy but man did I love my evo
Lol do you even know what rice means?
that little gauge cluster in the center is really geared for cars that are right hand drive hence them being the opposite way around you should be able to remove and swap them around with a little know how
