BMW driver veered left a 3rd of a meter as soon as he saw the errant tyre but wasn't at all required to slow down to let the Merc jump in front of him as he tried to. Since when are you expected to drop your speed coming off pit lane to let a rival move in ahead of you. ?
Whichever way it happened a racetrack is no place for revenge especially taking intentional revenge for what was clearly initially an accidental contact ....I think Mr BMW was more upset about losing a position than the actual contact, he was determined to get back on track ahead of Mr Merc

It looked like the car would have merged safely in front of the BMW, but it is hard to tell from this angle. Both drivers should receive a penalty for causing a collision. Regardless of the tire, you must always be in control of your car in the pits.

This typically happens in California. When a BMW and Mercedes approach an intersection simultaneously, they both feel they have the right-of-way.
