While I didn’t care for Richard Belzer’s sentiments either, what Dr. D did to Stossel was nothing compared to Hogan dropping Belzer on his head. I know people some people say that Belzer was on drugs during that time, but Hogan being a top guy and representing pro wrestling, was clearly being baited. As was Dr. D.
I didn't even know that Hogan choked a guy out until I saw this episode. Time has done a good job of burying that, because I've been a wrestling fan my whole life and never saw or heard of that incident. And there was literal video footage AND Mr. T was there, I can't believe I've never heard of this.

It wasn't so much asking the question, it was Stossel's condescending tone of voice IMO. Had he approached it differently he may not have gotten slapped. But that's not who John Stossel is. He's an arrogant prick. Him bragging about getting paid and constantly referring to wrestling as bullshit more than proves that. I wanted to slap him watching the episode.
I just watched Darkside of the Ring. I don't condone violence, but I understand someone wanting to hit John Stossel. He came across as so completely unlikeable. When he was younger doing his "investigative journaling" and older in this Darkside interview, in both cases he was unlikeable. I could understand why someone would want to smack him. You can tell he was humiliated after being bitch slapped and slinking away like a coward. He said his pain went away when he got paid, but you can tell he's still holding onto it and that's why his parting words to Schultz was "F you". His whole expose was unnecessary. They said they did a poll and 1/3 of the people thought it was real....so MOST people knew it wasn't, but he still felt the need to do this instead of just letting those people enjoy themselves. It's almost like he had a personal vendetta or grudge against professional wrestling and that's why he chose to go after it, not because they were deceiving people, but because of his own personal grudge.
As much as I respect John Stossel(believe it or not there are worse reporters than him), the slap was pretty hilarious. That being said, I hope Dr. D & Stossel won't hold a grudge forever. There's nothing worse in wrestling than a disgruntled wrestler who doesn't forgive what happened to themselves over multiple years ago. Thats how he proved to his trainer that he was ready to be in front of a crowd. Corny has never complained once.
