It's hard when CC, the best player in college, was drafted by the worst team in the league and has to struggle, while Kate, who didn't even think she'd be drafted, goes to the best and may be part of a three-peat WNBA champion.
I didn't think Kate would get drafted, but she made perfect sense for the Aces, with Chelsea Gray probaly unavailable until after the Summer Games. Quite the strategic pickup by Vegas.

That's the only way sports can be competitive. The lv Aces got a still with Kate Martin and they know it. She will get plenty playing time and be a super contribution. The former San Antonio star team was bought-out by Vegas MGM and also was a still with Kelsey Plum.
Caitlin Clark was not the best player in the 2024 wnba draft. She was the best shooter because of breaking Kelsey Plum's record. She has to learn defense or it will prevent her from developing into a complete player. If not, she will just be a perimeter shooting threat that can be minimized by oponents good defensive play. A first round pick one simply because of shooting has nothing to do with talent or skill. Anyone can shoot 1000 free throws and 3-pointers a day and get good at it. That's not physical talent nor defensive skill which she didn't develop in college. She's currently one dimensional where all other 1st-rd draft pick [guards] are multidimensional will get turnovers and steals. She can develop into a multidimensional guard if it's in her ❤️
@@freddiesettles1568 Agree with most of what you wrote, but beg to differ on one point. CC won the Naismith Award, universally accepted as honoring the BEST women's college player for the season, and she did the last two years in a row.
Yes, she has to play better defense, but she had a pretty good defensive game last time out, her best so far as a pro. She's even said she has to become better at defense, so it's not something lost on her. But she's not really expected to play lights out defense as a point guard. Her skills are best suited to spread the offense around and hit open players with her vision and court smarts. To me scoring should be secondary. All her fans want her to shoot logo 3's every other possession, and think the coach is "holding her back" by not letting her play "her game". This isn't college where she's going up against some scrub transfer from Wichita State. Every team is putting their best defensive players in her face the whole game. They pick her up before half court most of the time and try to smother her, so her chances of open 3's is not going to come that often.
I think she's finally starting to figure out the pro game, but her teammates need to step up and actually "finish" the passes and looks she sets up for them.
Indiana should have picked up Kate in the 2nd. That would have brought more chemistry with Caitlin.

I loved both Kate and Caitlin as players with Iowa, so it was really great to see Kate have a strong performance in the Aces' win over Indiana on Saturday night. By all accounts I've seen, she's a terrific young woman and I'm hoping she has a great WNBA career.

No comparison between Martin's team and Caitlin's team. If your team has a few weapons, then the defense can focus on the few. However, if you have a lot of weapons, then lesser players have less attention placed on them.

What would be the odds of Kate Martin having a better career than Clark?.
I went all in on CC and watched five WNBA games but can't do it anymore Clark is just an average player now and the WNBA is a joke. They may keep attendance and viewership up through the season but have to believe they will be back to where they were pretty soon.....broke! American's have short attention spans and will quickly lose interest if CC is not lighting it up.

Love Kate, Caitlin, and Kelsey Plum. That said, the WNBA is very hard to watch. They are airball and dropped pass machines that can't dunk and look slow. Clark is the best thing to happen to this league because so many of us are interested in watching her play but good god, they're terrible. My HS team would have killed the Aces.
