I feel like the whole retcon about Icon's spaceship being stolen by the Union doesn't really gel with what we know about him. Not only would this more violent Icon never let his only hope of getting home get carjacked (what, did they dig it up and put it on a train while he was out taking a leak?), but the guy has WAY more advanced technology that what we saw in his original series (including robots, a supersonic jet, camera scramblers, his info tool, and the intertia belt that originally came from his spaceship). And now Hudlin is telling us that the space lawyer was able to develop all of that PLUS multiple hidden bases (some of which were underwater)... without the spaceship that enabled him to build what meager tech he had originally. It's especially weird to introduce this as a reason for Hardware and Icon to cross paths when there was a perfectly GOOD reason for them to meet- the fact that Curtis is being blamed by the media for creating the very same Bang Babies that stomped Icon's ass back in *Blood Syndicate*. While I also think that including Benjamin Banneker with the time machine was cool (even if his background is clumsily introduced in the context- I would've had the infodump be made when Hardware discovers the book instead of while he's flying to Congress), the book surprisingly glosses over the **NUMEROUS** questions that the government having a *TIME MACHINE* below the *US Capitol* (not a blacksite as you stated in the recap) raises- especially since Hudlin went to great lengths to outline how the government were corrupt, xenophobic bastards back in *I&RS1* : -What it was doing squirreled away in the Capitol Basement for centuries gathering dust? Why wasn't it at the Pentagon, or the White House, or an ACTUAL blacksite like Area 51? -Who had access to the time machine while it was in custody? Historians? Presidents? Corporations? Scientists? -How was Banneker able to build a time machine before Quantum Physics were even discovered? Did he learn the secret on his own, collaborate with other famous scientists, or receive help from another time? -Is this the only machine, or was it ever duplicated? (probably not, given how intact the machinery is) -Was it *EVER* used to change the course of history before Curtis got ahold of it? For all Hardware knows, he could be living on a counterfeit time spoke where the government used the machine to beat the Nazis and the Soviets, or where someone like Alva used foreknowledge of wars or the dot-com bubble to enrich themselves. -Most damning of all, by NOT changing history but keeping the technology guarded, has the government indirectly condoned every atrocity humanity has undergone? I'm not saying we need all the answers to this laundry list of questions in the first issue, but it feels like the plot is glossing over showing us Hardware's critical, analytical mind in play at what's essentially a paradigm shift (his idol making a time machine) and philosophical threshold for him: "If it's possible to change the lives of millions, should I do so?". It also kind of glosses over -Icon's- Arnus' involvement in the story, relegating him to shacking up with Hudlin's OC when there could've been some dramatic tension between the two protagonists (like let's say when Hardware goes back in time he sits up in bed because the machine lets out an ENORMOUS amount of Positrons, and that causes him to show up at Hardware's lab just before he travels). I'm definitely going to buy the next issue because A) I'm curious where they're going and B) reading the events made both me and the guy who introduced me to Milestone laugh out loud (especially the part where Past Curtis is stealing the Quantum Juice from Alva's Lab *in a hoodie* instead of a labcoat or hazmat suit), but honestly? I'm just holding out hope that this is a clumsy first part and the rest will follow up on the trail of missed opportunities they left behind.
A very strong first issue I'm excited for the series overall hardware is essentially Batman meets iron man he doesn't trust nice things he doesn't trust nice people and he sees icon as useful but also as a threat
First off, you’ve got a perfect comic explanation voice man! Secondly DAMN mr metcalf don’t gaf about the timeline lol I love it, I didn’t finish the original 90s run but I feel like the boldness is very par for course for Hardware.
I read a book whose whole theme was centered on time travel. The author presented many concepts and ideas on rules of time travel. The main rule was that a time traveling device of any sort could not take a traveler past the point of the time traveling device's creation. So if such rule were to be applied here, one could understand the limitations that would present. That black scientist journal Hardware found appears to have notes and theories on time travel, but he probably lacked the resources and technology at the time to create and test his hypothesis. Hardware, whom does have the resources and technology, is able to create the time traveling device, but note: he would only be able to travel as far back in time to the exact moment the time traveling device was activated for the very first time. This may seem like a no brainer, but to me, I was mind blown by how much sense that rule actually makes. Unfortunately, I forget the name of the book.
On one hand I want to support these milestone titles because the stories seem awesome, but on the other hand, I'm worried these things will just end abruptly and not be given the respect that these characters deserve.
Hardware < Ironman is usually the sentiment and i know Icon is black Superman. Ironman would get run threw by the two Marvel Supermen Hyperion/Sentry unless he has a suit of armor i don't know about, or if he gets a new suit of armour, so if this fight is going to be believable than the Hardware < Ironman debate may become Hardware > Ironman or Hardware = Ironman.
The problem with the whole preventing slavery is, once you stop that you lose representation from blk Africans from around tge world. No Haitian, Dominicans, Trinidadian and so on, so while it's a great thing to do it does make others feel left out. Granted yoy could say Africans went out to go lived there to be their own independents but that just makes for more details that no one wants to explain.
False. Africans circumvented the globe first, so there were Africans, especially noting the Mali Empire and the Moors, that were over in the Americas before any European Imperialist nation. So Africans would still be represented.
@@KeanWolcott not necessarily seeing as Haiti and the other places I mention would not be represented, and while what you say is true that Africans were in other places in the globe. I really liked this issue, a lot of amazing character development and development to the milestone universe
Really been loving milestone since it's return. Didn't read it growing up but these comics have all been dope 💯
"we need to talk."
Icon hit him with the disappointed dad.
This sounds like a pretty nice start so far and the time travel could be interesting

Bringing back that milestone heat that these RUclips streets needed!
Is the third video I saw given the shout out to Benjamin Banneker, that is what's up he deserves his flowers

The name of the book was called "the psychology of time travel" by Kate Mascarenhas.
Bought my copy last week. I think I'm going to enjoy this series!
I am so happy we get a comic with these two
Hardware and icon
More like batman (+iron-man) against superman
So in other words, Hardware created a "Flashpoint"
This is why you shouldn't mess with Time Travel.
Never EVER🤣🤣
I EFFING LOVE❤️💕💗MILESTONE COMICS AND THE GREAT DWAYNE MCDUFFIE FOREVER ♾️
Thanks for the black history lesson. Knowledge is Power!!!!!
Milestone beef with big corp WildCATS would be perfect. There are so many reasons & the crossover would sell each book in a glorious fashion.
Big bro
Can u do more like this
Yo content be on point
Many blessings to ya brother
This was a very strong first issue
This comic is pretty dope.
I wish we can get a ICON movie
This was dope 👍
Milestone are the most perfect comics.
The old stories where better
I comment as sacrifice to the Automated Instruction deities, Algorithmia
Icon vs Omani man
So basically: flashpoint
So it's milestones version of flashpoint?
Imagine seeing milestone's darkseid
He looks like Superman. Is he sort of a Superman expy?
Kinda, but with a dash of Martian Manhunter.
But to be fair there are a lot of Superman archetypes in comics
Can you do more milestones comic

Totally agree, don't know if you read Blood Syndicate #6 but they literally already put a major plot thread to bed.
This was a very good way to start this series. Hopefully Hardware and Icon are used better than they were in the original Milestone run.
Who wrote that, Mcduffie?
@@matthewschwartz6607 I think so
@@johnwright9049It was mainly M.D. Bright and McDuffie

Yall never read the actual original icon
