Im a stucco contractor for 20 years in NY, 99% of our work is EIFS, my question for stucco over cinder block is can basecoat with a fiberglass mesh for direct apply be used in Florida? instead of the scratch, brown coat system? typically over cement surfaces we will use a waterproofing membrane followed by basecoat and mesh and then an acrylic finish, the trim bands would be EIFS
Just go back to the way stucco...not plastering...is supposed to be run. Mike..stucco and plastering are 2 separate animals. I grew up in the family business in Palm Beach FL. South Florida building codes call for 5/8 on block and 7/8 on wire. It has been that way for as long as I can remember. What you have and most of central Florida are "paint grade" block meant for a block filler and then the top coat. You are correct about the porosity of the block for a mechanical bond...those block are not porous enough. The face should look more like gunite in a pool before marcite is applied for the correct mechanical bond.. The true stucco system is a scratch coat , brown coat and a finish coat that should be hydrated in between with a Minimum thickness of 5/8. Wire path should be ran the same way but with perlite added to the scratch and brown coats. This is excellent for insulation ratings on exterior walls and minimal checking . The problem with the industry today is it's not regulated like it needs to be... competency tests....etc. At the final C/O the walls need to be cored for proper thickness. The mounting plate you showed at the garage is actually a 1/2 inch" mud ring" designed for a 1/2 inch thick stucco. The arches will not crack, it was turned down and stubbed and if the stucco application is run correctly, it will last 2 lifetimes. I haven't watched the 2nd video yet , but I can hardly wait
This guy in yellow shirt is knit picking everything ,! Guaranteed he has never lathed or stuccoed in his life , he reads a book and think he knows it all , and yes masons all use sponge , trust me me bud, he would never last in Colorado , he would be run out of town ,
