Great video BUZZ, glad to see you got the dial cord strung, at first I thought you were going to have a few choice words while stringing it...LOL My condolences to John, so very sorry to hear that.
Hi Goat...I must say, that radio sounds great. That speaker is in such great condition....It's beautiful...now on to part 2 , and to make the cabinet beautiful! You got a great deal on that radio for 20 bucks! I asked Doug if you would be pissed if I painted the transformer red, and he said "NO", that down deep you like red.. Is that true? haha🤣 I hope John comes back to making videos, if only for a few radio restores.
Hay Billy, Edie and I went to Drunkin Donuts, I was thinkin about you and your family. I know I watched every one of his videos and even followed him over to Odysse with the Thunderbird series. One thing that can be said of John, he is a man of integrity!

Great looking radio Buzz. I think a nice red grill cloth to go with a red painted transformer would look great. As well as upset the purists. Very nice tribute to John's wife too.
Great video. Thank you for the update about John. It was his early videos that taught me so much and got me to believe I could make my old radios play again. I always enjoyed the potato feud. Sad news about his wife. Maybe he’ll get back on RUclips someday. Thanks again.
thank you MyWorld for your comment.......John inspired me to start making videos..and I hope he will come back and do a few more for old times sake..🍺👍🍟
Nice video Buzz. It was good to see John again. I always enjoyed his videos. Hope he comes back again after his rough stretch. I watched his jukebox restoration from start to finish - that one took a long time, but it was interesting. Looking forward to the Crosley restoration. I have fought the dreaded dial strings many times myself. And remember as John says 'electricity is a caged animal just waiting to get out'!
Hi Bill, I sent him an email to make a new video....lets hope he will...The "electricity is like a caged animal. It always wants out!" is a classic and will live forever...In fact, I may use it in my next video..haha....The stringing segment turned out pretty good...I was pleased....take care!
Thanks Buzz, I saw a Crosley 8 at a garage sale a while back, it seemed much smaller than yours. A good looking radio, they wanted it more than I did. Restringing the dial can certainly raise the blood pressure.
Crosley made some damn good radios back then...Old64Goat got this radio for $20 bucks. what a deal.....The pristine speaker is worth a hundred bucks by its self. 🍺🍺
Awesome video Buzz! I had the model 517 many months ago, it was the 5 tube variant. It was a cool little radio, but instead had only 1 SW band . I'm currently working on a 1935 Zenith 807, fun stuff!
Restringing those dial cords are really frustrating my cramped up arthritic hands don't help any. I have to restring this 1937 G.E. Model E50 and also on the 1939 Motorola I have been working on. You got that one perfect Buzzerino. Luckily my chemotherapy is going well and my Doctor said all of my blood tests are returning to normal says I will be cancer free by June. A nice tribute to Johns wife who was my age 72. But as he said she went in her sleep we should all be so lucky.
Hi Buzz, it may have been a mistake revealing your address on the box, I have added it to my address book and redirected all my junk mail to you. I didn't add Old Goat though, anyone living on Farter Lane can't be good 😧 Good looking project Buzz, I have never seen anyone have that much trouble with a simple dial string 😂😂 I referenced John from Arkansas in a video once from a video of yours but have never seen his work. I felt for him losing his wife, it's inevitable but so sad. All the best Buzz, Cheers!
Hello David!....I welcome all junk mail here @ 620 Heterodyne Lane. 😂..The dial stringing was easy. but I had just finished off 2 cases of Tooheys old dark ale..🤣 Check out John from Arkansas' channel...His RUclips channel is joernone and is still up....He has over 900 videos.....Cheers mate.....man this Tooheys is good🍺
still nice to see youtubers do stuff together. I love the videos all the way up to the first glimmer of life especially the ones that are hard to figure out. Thats why so many of my radios once they come to life, they dont get completed because the excitement is over lol
I laughed uncontrollably at you re-stringing that thing. Anyone who has restrung an old radio knows how much of a pain they can be. Thanks for the update on John.
@@Buzz1151 Seemed like a simple string routing to be that difficult to do. You can put a touch of CA glue on the string before cutting in the center of where the glue is and it won't fray and will be easier to thread through a hole. OH!! lol Curious why you put more string turns on the tuner than was recommended on the stringing guide?
Good to see this in your hands Buzz... and glad you are doing the Dial String.... thats my favorite part of restoring a radio. I use forceps to hold string in place when doing this :) As John says... PIECE OF CAKE !!! What a lovely tribute to Ernestine , Buzz... god bless you for that.....
Hi Ron, Thanks...I emailed John last month and he told me about wifey. He sent me the link to the video interview, and sent me wifeys funeral card. I use to like to watch her and grandma in John's videos, and was sad to hear of her death.
There seems that tomorrow (the 11th) is your birthday. I do wish you a Happy Birthday along with good health, good friends, good beers, good songs and new projects.😊🎉
Excellent work on fixing the string dial chord. Old goat did a great job installing the caps and resisters. Put the finishing touches Buzz to this Crosley top of the line radio of the late 30's.
After reading your reply Buzz, I re-watch this episode, I watch it to the end. My condolence to John and his family. I miss watching his channel. Particularly the potato growing contest and the ribbing you two gave each other. John, if your watching, hope you get back on You tube someday.
It is my dream that one night I'll go to bed relatively healthy and then just never wake up. That is probably the biggest gift you could ever ask for. Both of my parents went other ways.
That grille cloth looks like it has bloodstains on it-probably from the previous guy who tried to restring the radio. Nice to see that update on John from Arkansas. I followed a lot of advice that John gave in his videos. Probably the best advice he gave was for his viewers to subscribe to a fellow from Oregon who was making the funniest radio repair videos he’d seen. Still have fond memories of the Great Potato Battle.
yeah, I was going no where, and John from Arkansas, and old64goat kindly mentioned my channel, and I got my first 100 subscribers... you know, that stain does look like blood! 😮
The diagram of the dial cord had the knob turning the opposite rotation of the tuning cap. I guess the standard is to have clockwise increase the band.
I love those fake addresses on the shipping label. Funny I know both of your names and where you live but I WILL NEVER TELL. The FBI couldn't get me to tell. Ha ha. Glad one of you can still do comedy and do it right. That goes for tube radios dial stringing too apparently. So sorry about John's wife Wifey passing. Classy tribute ending to this video.
Glad to see John from Arkansas. Sorry about his wife. Is he still making videos somewhere? Leaving RUclips he just hurt his fans and himself. RUclips could careless. He got me into radios and your videos. Too bad, he was doing good things to teach people. 😢
Ok, I really enjoy your videos, especially your comments and the sound bites. I DETEST Dickle, but I can scan over him. I really don’t like the underwear stains, otherwise your videos would be perfect!
Hey there Buzz, great video and looking forward to part 2. At the 21:52 to 21:53 mark in your video the speaker looks like it may have a crack along the edge? Bottom right edge at the 5 o'clock position? Or it could be me getting old and needing glasses.
you had me worried, so I checked out the video. that was a hair on the speaker....the speaker still looks pristine...but you win a free beer and fry! 🍺🍟
@@Buzz1151 Okey glad I was wrong about the speaker. It has happened to me and there is nothing worse then having to disassemble a radio again. Keep the videos coming, cheers!
A great Radio project for me to follow. By the way. For some years ago you have a potato competition. Will it be a "follow-up"😀. Have a great day from Stig Österberg from Dalsbruk in Finland.
I can't tell from where I'm sitting but I think the dial cord may be hitting the left side of that stabilizer bracket causing rapid wear of the dial cord you worked so hard to string. Hopefully we'll get to hear some action on the other bands.
Something about the stains on the Grill cloth scares/freaks me out, maybe because my eyes are thinking These looking like blood stains.BE SCARED,EVERYONE.
@Buzz1151 The reason I asked about the grid wire is that i am restoring a Hammarlund HQ-129 that had been modified to a tube that does not have a grid wire. So I am trying to remove the modification and return the radio back to factory. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks so much. John

Another great video Buzz keep them coming your dedication and patience are greatly appreciated. 👍
Thanks george 👍
Thanks Buzz,
I saw a Crosley 8 at a garage sale a while back, it seemed much smaller than yours.
Very cool..wish I had a Zenith to do. 🍺🍺
But as he said she went in her sleep we should all be so lucky.
thanks Larry......good to hear you are doing better! 👍👍
😂..The dial stringing was easy. but I had just finished off 2 cases of Tooheys old dark ale..🤣
Check out John from Arkansas' channel...His RUclips channel is joernone and is still up....He has over 900 videos.....Cheers mate.....man this Tooheys is good🍺
speechless.......I was wanting a busted radio restore and its already been recapped and made to work
aww life is sometimes rough...😢...in a couple months, I will have a bask-case that you will like.
still nice to see youtubers do stuff together.
Thanks for the update on John.
the re-stringing segment turned out pretty good in spite of my attempts ..haha
@@Buzz1151 I just did a 1941crosley 02ca. That was the first one I've accomplished on my first try. The hell with the rest of them.
@@Darryl603 I dont think that string guide was for this radio. It needs more than 1 tune to work
@@Buzz1151 Okay, I was just wondering...It's working now so, there you go : )
Ha. My pop-pop was a very mild mannered man - except when he gad to restring a radio dial! Well done!
🤣
Good to see this in your hands Buzz... and glad you are doing the Dial String.... thats my favorite part of restoring a radio. I use forceps to hold string in place when doing this :) As John says... PIECE OF CAKE !!! What a lovely tribute to Ernestine , Buzz... god bless you for that.....
Hi Ron, Thanks...I emailed John last month and he told me about wifey. He sent me the link to the video interview, and sent me wifeys funeral card. I use to like to watch her and grandma in John's videos, and was sad to hear of her death.
Hey Buzz I see you got the Goat's radio and it even works. Should be an easy fix for an old master like yourself. :)
think he will be pissed if I paint the transformer red? 😂🤣
@@Buzz1151 I don't think he will. I think he really likes red deep down. LOL
There seems that tomorrow (the 11th) is your birthday. I do wish you a Happy Birthday along with good health, good friends, good beers, good songs and new projects.😊🎉
thanks Boris...can't stop getting old.🧓haha
Me too 😂
I have no idea what you are doing or how it works, but it is fascinating to watch! Thanks for sharing! Liked and CONNECTED!
Thanks for visiting 🍺🍺
@@Buzz1151 You are welcome. Consider joining the club!
hi buzz i saw that video of john months ago on odysee a lovely tribute to his wife at the end i hope he comes back to youtube.
hi David...let hope he comes back for even 1 or 2 videos. 🍺🍟
6:25 CLASSIC!
😂🤣
Buzz, hello from Crescent City, CA Your not that far away.
hello to Crescent City, CA🍺🍺
Impressive
😂.haha u got good taste ! 😁
that was a sad note we aren't getting any younger buzz soon it will be me.
Hi Pete...this is true, I could go at any time too, but I try not to think of it. 🍺
So very sorry for John from Arkansas. Hope there’s a way that he can get back to RUclips somehow.
lets hope so 👍👍
Excellent work on fixing the string dial chord. Old goat did a great job installing the caps and resisters. Put the finishing touches Buzz to this Crosley top of the line radio of the late 30's.
that radio sounds great...it will sound better after I fix up the cabinet!.
Both of my parents went other ways.
much truth in you comment tarstarkusz
Exelente!!
Gracias César. Espero que todo esté bien con usted.
The diagram of the dial cord had the knob turning the opposite rotation of the tuning cap. I guess the standard is to have clockwise increase the band.
yeah, this Crosley is opposite.👍
I love those fake addresses on the shipping label. Funny I know both of your names and where you live but I WILL
NEVER TELL. The FBI couldn't get me to tell. Ha ha. Glad one of you can still do comedy and do it right. That goes for
tube radios dial stringing too apparently. So sorry about John's wife Wifey passing. Classy tribute ending to this video.
you got to laugh and have a good time working on these radios, otherwise why bother! here's hoping John will come back and do a few radios! 🍺🍺
Glad to see John from Arkansas. Sorry about his wife. Is he still making videos somewhere? Leaving RUclips he just hurt his fans and himself. RUclips could careless. He got me into radios and your videos. Too bad, he was doing good things to teach people. 😢
no, he hasn't made a new video in maybe 2 years....I sent him an email telling him to come back.....👍
@@Buzz1151 He did good work and we lose our. I miss his videos. He was a great teacher.
3:09 Oh god saw the transformer and thought he's going to paint it!
Buzz jest hid a hundred dollar bill in the cassy and call it a day.
😂🤣
Ok, I really enjoy your videos, especially your comments and the sound bites. I DETEST Dickle, but I can scan over him. I really don’t like the underwear stains, otherwise your videos would be perfect!
😮
Hello to Stig from Finland...my potato growing days are over, I'm afraid. 👍👍
I can't tell from where I'm sitting but I think the dial cord may be hitting the left side of that stabilizer bracket causing rapid wear of the dial cord you worked so hard to string. Hopefully we'll get to hear some action on the other bands.
ill check it out.👍👍
Something about the stains on the Grill cloth scares/freaks me out, maybe because my eyes are thinking These looking like blood stains.BE SCARED,EVERYONE.
haha, I thought the same thing! 😱
Buzz, Generally speaking, are the grid cap wires anything special (shielded for example) or just cloth covered wire?
they are just cloth covered wire., why?
@Buzz1151 The reason I asked about the grid wire is that i am restoring a Hammarlund HQ-129 that had been modified to a tube that does not have a grid wire. So I am trying to remove the modification and return the radio back to factory. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks so much. John
Looks bigger in person, said the actress to the bishop.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 hehehe
I seen you working on a 1929 philco model 86 lowboy.., from 8 years ago.. I have a complete chasis and speaker no cabinet...my question is it worth anything...😎
probably. but not big money
Are you a member of our club? NWVRS ,or PSARA

@@Buzz1151 Oh it seemed like you kept adjusting the volume for each station. Didn’t know if the automatic gain control circuit was working or if it even had one. I don’t know 🤔
oh..you're talking about the AVC....@@billdegener8105
