00:00 Xenitemena mou poulia (an Epirus traditional song)
2:42 Nanourisma (an Asia Minor traditional lullaby)
'I went looking for new Greek music. A few days before my arrival, I received a link from a local friend to a traditional song reinvented in a flamboyant way by a young singer, Alkyone, from northern Greece. I didn’t even get to the end of the song that I was already looking for her contact information. Two weeks later, I was landing in Thessaloniki completely hallucinated after a pilgrimage to Mount Athos. On the bus back to the city, I managed to get in touch with Maria (that's her name) and ask her to meet me that evening to prepare a piece or two. She's a little unsure of herself, but she knows Blogothèque well and finally takes the plunge. We get to a friend’s studio, where Thodoris is waiting for us on cello, and the two of them launch into a gentle, epic performance, building steadily towards a finale of insane intensity. We do two takes, no more, it's in the box, I'm capsized. I'm back on the road, the magic has happened and all that's left is to share it. When the traditions of yesterday become entwined with such a young and sublime voice, unheard-of tomorrows open up once again.' @vincentmoon

"The magic has happened and all that's left is to share it."
Thank you Blogotheque
One of the best things I have ever found on the internet. Thank you so much!
Bewitching music ❤ ! Beautiful singer, litterally inhabited🙏🔥
Before something happened and made me stop singing, I was used to sing alone, often when nobody could listen, for example while driving my car. I didn't really control those moments, and the words were like children do, in a completely made-up language. The melody were so similar to the second song. I know it's silly and weird. But after singing I felt a great peace inside myself, the song was reverberating in the silence and inside me. For I am a very skeptical and "down to earth" person, I am feeling awkward to say that I believe that, in those moments, I was "channeling" something, perhaps from the past or who knows from where. Thank you, @alkyone4398 and to @vincentmoon for bringing this magic here for everyone.
My son was the same. Later he went to music school, since then his inner music has stopped, he only sings what he learns in school. I hope one day he’ll return to his own beautiful melodies.
That's beautiful. And I know what you mean.
I think it's in all of us, and I don't mean in any supernatural way. Folk songs and other traditional cultural expressions can be _so_ similar even though they are from completely different parts of the world. They seem to be more human than cultural. I think our ancestors have been singing and humming these melodies for hundreds of thousands of years, maybe even before we had language. It has become part of us somehow. There is something special about it that touches us in a way that no other artform can. It goes straight to the heart. Especially when you sing with your own voice.
being deaf don't mean totally deaf i i think. that part might confuse people a lot.
@@sodiufas I am not sure to understand what you mean, may you explain?
i can't open my comment, to what u replying, idk what i said

This is extraordinary. Thank you for making it possible for us to hear it.
absolutely transporting
Gunlerdir dinleyip duruyorum. Dinlemedigimde mirildaniyorum. Muhteşem bir ses ve his ❤ tuylerim diken diken

sarajevo loves you!!!
thanks for the tears this morning, Alkyone
There are so many stars in the sky, my pearl,
and shine one after another, and shine one after another,
so often my pearly eyes,
They cried for you, they cried for you
Come, good mother, love me too,
Cradle, good mother, the child for me...
I sigh, you don't hear me, my pearl
I cry, you don't pity me, I cry, you don't pity me.
Come, good mother, love me too,
Cradle, good mother, the child for me...
You were not born of a mother, my pearl,
You don't fear God, you don't fear God.
Come, good mother, love me too,
Cradle, good mother, the child for me...
What an emotional performance!!
Wow. That went straight to the soul. Thank you!
This girl is so talented!!!
Such beautiful and beguiling reworkings of these folk songs - effortlessly sculpted into understated / humble modern pieces without losing the essence of what’s made them survive to this day.. so good 🙏

Is there anywhere we can purchase/download audio of the second song? Incredible ❤
For the time being try getting the rendition of Katerina Papadopoulou as was featured in a turkish series ost. It's equally magical!
There are some websites that let you convert RUclips videos to mp3. There's also a clip of only the last song on RUclips. Just saying 😉
WOW...

~ this song talks about "the mourning of the mother"
when the her children leave for the foreign ~
Song in the beginning sounds like rewind
Can someone who speak greek please share the lyrics in the comments? 🙏
the first song is a traditional song from the Epirus region , about a mother who sings to her son who left to be a migrant. This subject is very common in the area of Epirus because many left for west europe and usa between and after the two WW.
Η ξενιτιά σας χαίρεται , // Foreign lands have the privilege of seeing you
τα νιάτα τα γραμμένα // and they enjoy your condemned by fate youth
μωρέ ξένε μου, //oh, my poor foreigner
// and they enjoy your condemned by fate youth
Τι να σου στείλω ξένε μου , // What shall I send you, my foreigner
ν' αυτού στα ξένα που 'σαι // there, in the foreign land you are now living
μωρέ ξένε μου , // oh, my poor foreigner
// there, in the foreign land you are now living.
Σου στέλνω μήλο, σέπεται, //I'm sending you an apple, but it gets rotten
κυδώνι μαραγκιάζει, // (I'm sending you) a quince, but it decays
μωρέ ξένε μου , // oh, my poor foreigner
// a quince, but it decays
Σου στέλνω γιε μ' το δάκρυ μου , // I'm sending you my tear
σ' ένα χρυσό μαντήλι // in a golden handkerchief
μωρέ ξένε μου , // oh, my poor foreigner
// in a golden handkerchief
Το δάκρυ μου είναι καυτό // my tear is hot
και καίει το μαντήλι , // and the handkerchief gets burnt
μωρέ ξένε μου , // oh, my poor foreigner
// and the handkerchief gets burnt
Ξενιτεμένα μου πουλιά // My (beloved) emigrated birds
και παραπονεμένα // complaining ones
translation by "Κακομάζαλη" at lyricstranslate
can someone translate the lyrics? I would love to understand that powerful song 👐💜✨
My Greek is rudimentary but the chorus of the second song is something like:
Come good mother love me
Rock* good mother the child
*I think like the verb in rocking a cradle rather than a stone/boulder
Actually I did some digging and found the following lyrics:
As many as the stars in the sky are, my pearly
shining one by one, shining one by one
so many are the times, that my eyes, oh my pearly
shed tears for you, shed tears for you.
Come on, my dear mother, love me too
lully the baby in the cradle, my dear mother, for me
I'm sighing, don't you hear me, my pearly
I'm crying, don't you pity me, don't you pity me
Come on, my dear mother, love me too
lully the baby in the cradle, my dear mother, for me
No mother gave birth to you, my pearly,
neither you are afraid of God, neither you are afraid of God.
Come on, my dear mother, love me too
lully the baby in the cradle, my dear mother, for me.
Come on, my dear mother, love me too
lully the baby in the cradle, my dear mother, for me

does she say Margarita at some point or I'm crazy?
She say "margaritarenia" that means my pearly one
I would love a recording of the second song! Is it available elsewhere?
im greek and a traditional music fan and i'll admit i've never heard of this song before! currently looking for a recording myself, if i get to it first i'll send you a link!!
She said on an IG comment that it may be recorded and released soon I believe
ξένος είμαι, τι σημαίνει το "κούνει" στο "κούνει, καλέ μάνα, το παιδί για μένα";
