Does anyone here actually use Polkadot? And did any of you actually contribute to the crowdloans???.... I did.....and it has been an extremely bad experience as a user and investor. In its current state, Gavin Woods ecosystem is going no where fast. Im interested if anyone...who actually uses this ecosystem, is having a good user experience?
I really like what Gavin said about intention and ethos. Decentralization could become meaningless if it is not used a tool to disrupt the power paradigm! Polkadot rocks!!
Was in the room listening to all of this at the time and instantly got it. Part 1 reminded me of three things: 1) the evolution of HPC distributed computing with temporal dependency and message passing-> linear scaling and embarrassingly parallel distributed compute+storage 2) scalar based compute -> SMP/SIMD vector/matrix based compute with scheduling for register access of instructions and the affinity given to each with clock cycle prioritisation 3) cloud compute resource consume pricing models Each evolutionary in revolutionising the fundamental units - compute + transport + storage resources Long live Polkadot, may it’s vision triumph
This is really visionary, i like the concept of cores and blockspace. It is also quite complex so it would need a lot more explanaition BUT it seems really oriented for the future! Oh and i also like how Gavin is talking a bit more straight about Polkadot being the only project capable of certain things - showing teeth.
It's clear that we're heading towards a bright Polkadot Future. This talk got us so excited, great to see Gavin wood back on stage too! Still believe that owning DOT is a front row seat to the most secure and soon-to-be agile blockspace on earth. And let's not forget Kusama, which stands to gain massively as teams can onboard more easily.
It's been a humbling and inspiring talk at the same time. All this will take time to be ready, but better change and adapt than slowly die. All the best to Gavin Wood and the rest of the team!
Polkadot supercomputer has 50 cores at the moment which can grow to 500-1000 cores in the nearest future. Oak Network is well positioned to provide on-chain automation for all of this and this shows how innovative and vital Oak Network is to the polkadot ecosystem. And with Dr Gavin Wood being such a visionary leader and seeing into the future about how this super amazing ecosystem called Polkadot could metamorphosis and explore its full potential there is no better time than to look into the Oak Network and explore all of the amazing features it’s bringing as a parachain to the Polkadot ecosystem
was exciting to be at my very first crypto event, very first Polkadot crypto event, and was bowled over by Dr Gavin's vision for Polkadot... complete with his hand drawn sketches of the visin.... top top top 💯💯💯

So correct me if I'm wrong, but it's like a pay-as-you-go blockchain cloud service, except it's decentralized, and because of interoperability you will be able to tap into any existing type of blockchain through Polkadot network?
"Always look on the briiiight side of life!" - Monty Python is who he sounded like. Crowdloans were fun.. made my profits and got the hell outta dodge. GL to the future dotters.
Oak is using a modular architecture that allows it to be easily customized and extended. This makes it well-suited for a variety of applications, such as decentralized exchanges, lending platforms, and asset management.
Hi, can someone give me a synopsis of what the talk is about and what Polkadot is aiming to do differently later on? Don't get too technical, just looking for a broad overview. Edit: I should say summary, not synopsis
I am usually able to learn stuff relatively quickly, but after 10 hours of researching on polkadot I still have not the slightest idea what it is about or how it works
Just a thought but with the new polkadot innovations, which I think are fantastic, but without the two year dot support, is there any use case for dot other than staking?
I proposed on reddit about this around 18 months ago, a Polkadot with guaranty for the developer, with out the hassle of renewing the parachain contract in certain period, glad to see things are turning that way. If I am a developer, why to gamble with my application's future by deploying it on a parachain with assurance of maximum 2 years? especially when there are other chains available, of course low tech, but with certainty. Another proposal from me was to have a common good chain by polkadot, where you can deploy smart contract, like in ethereum, to bring more authenticity to the project, I am not a crypto holder, but an enthusiast and analyst. This is what I thought as a layman following Polkadot from beginning. I really believe this proposal will do wonders for polkadot.
No, it's not what you're thinking.. He's not saying that Polkadot will be executed on "50 CPU Cores". He's saying Polkadot's relaychain will be reconceptualized as a "decentralized CPU with like 50 decentralized Cores". Each of these Cores will be tasked to validate/compute a parachain for a small period of time. In physical terms, a Core here would be a subset of validators tasked to validate a parachain for an allocated period of time. Each validator is itself an independent actor with $MM of nominated stake backing them. Furthermore, the Core's wont just be validating parachains for a small period, but really any app code that's willing to pay the fee for validation. What they're doing is building a proper "decentralized computer". This is what Ethereum was meant to be. Polkadot was already light-years ahead before this update, and now it's going into warp-speed again. Market will figure it out eventually.
Basically, the vision is Polkadot turns into AWS (Amazon Web Services) or something similar where you can pay as you go or pay for long term or get more resources if needed, very flexible design focused on the use of cores for computation and applications. In other words, Polkadot becomes a Blockchain As A Service platform (BAAS lol), which it already kind of is but limited to parachains leases or parathreads. So the design evolves to become more flexible! I think this is a phenomenal evolution of the network and does stick to the core vision. The downside is this should take 2+ years to develop but they'll probably ship it in batches as they always do. Another downside I can think of is this will create a lot of complexities that will require a lot of testing, and continuous extensive testing... so thank you Kusama for existing? Edit: Another thing he hinted was that Polkadot Relay chain can itself use a core to run smart contracts it requires. Since he forecasts 500-1000 cores, this should be easily implemented and wouldn't affect the whole system I would guess. I think this feature should probably be developed first just to showcase the use cases!
I have to agree about the portion concerning decentralization. I've always thought of this as a buzzword, but with actual intent and focus on ethics/ethos this could be the proper step in making the D word legitimate.
They’ve really nailed down what potential lies within Polkadot. I’ve found the young applications quite frustrating. HydraDX is the first one to really blue my mind and change the way I view the crypto space. Bravo Gavin!
Why is it not clearer for staking? The bonding nominating on ledger confuses the average retail investor. The dashboard is not letting me join a pool??? WTF.

Love the direction they are taking now. Much more aligned with the initial vision I believe and should be a lot more scalable.
