Battle of the Shortland Islands: Part 1

After detecting a large enemy force off of the Shortland Islands, preparing to head through the New Georgia Sound, Japanese land and carrier-based aircraft amassed to perform multiple strikes on the force. Despite heavy cover from possible fleet carriers to the north, Japanese floatplane bombers managed to land multiple 800-kilogram bombs on an American escort carrier, sending her to the bottom.
