Yes “fix your truck for a quarter” was invented by Ron. To many other RUclipsrs are posting this not mentioning that fact.... RIP sir you are still teaching us!!!!

To Ron's family, I hope you understand how far reaching Ron's love of diesels went.
Gone before his time, his videos keep him in the forefront of our minds.
I've said it before, I'm sorry for your loss.
While the diesel community continues to morn the thought of you loss of husband and father saddens me deeply.
You all are still in my thoughts, be well....

I am new to owning a diesel truck and my truck had these exact issues. I watched his video not known by he had passed. I pulled the valve cover only to find someone before me had traded this fix but with a thinner washer! Plug was unplugged driver's side aft part of the plug. The washer measured 0.052". My quarter I pulled out of the coin holder measured 0.065". The washer came out easy. The quarter went in quite a bit tougher. Put it all back together and started right up. To Ron's family, I am so thankful for him. I didn't know about the accident until I went to post this tonight. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to share knowledge like this.

I am so grateful to come across Ron’s RUclips videos. Today finally fix my 7.3 when I find out that the passenger manifold was warm to the touch and drivers side hot. The quarter trick belong to Ron.

I have one of these in my shop, not being a diesel tech I just did a high pressure oil pump and it started running exactly as shown in this video. I did the buzz test and once again it sounded exactly as he described. I didn't need to pull the valve cover, I checked the external connection on the passenger bank and felt it click in to the proper position. I guess I must have bumped it pulling that stupid aluminum air tube out or putting it back in. But this video gave me (a professional mechanic) the information I needed when the information we pay for left me high and dry. I am a gas engine pro, but not many diesels come through our doors here. Thanks for the help, and after reading the comments I see that he has passed. It's amazing that nowadays we have the technology that someone that is no longer counted among us can still share his or her wealth of knowledge. Thanks again for the help and Happy trails, No more tool bills for you, rest easy!!

I found this channel after buying an F550 for a small business. This and other videos Ron made have helped me so much. I hit subscribe in hopes that it will help someone Ron cared about as much as he has helped me. I hope everyone does the same. Also I started out watching videos by Stephen Cox. He gave Ron Credit for his knowledge. I thought that pretty honorable. That’s rare today. Or maybe not, I hope.

I know this is several years old now, but wanted to say thank you anyways. Very well laid out, solid information without any of the guessing and internet assumptions you see in many videos.
I have this exact issue, but has been hard to chase as it is intermittent. Cuts out 4cyl (always drivers bank) but usually running fine by the time i limp it back home. Checked UVCH twice, inspected entire harness, pulled IDM to check connection for corrosion, checked PCM for any signs of corrosion/damage, Replaced CPS for good measure (it was a grey aftermarket style, and has been working for over a year but replaced with Motorcraft anyways) and now I am to the point where I am fairly sure I have a bad IDM. Either that or an injector is shorting internally. I do not have a way to buzz test, but am sending off IDM to get tested and will have to get a shop to buzz test if the IDM comes back good.

Ron, thank you very much for the instructions. I had the check engine light and 1316 code, running/idling rough (not as bad as your example). Found the plugs backed out of both banks, the passenger bank was my problem. Fixed my truck for a quarter and did the PM for another quarter. Appreciate the hot tip, I've subscribed to your channel as I'm going to keep this 2002 for a while longer.

After watching your video I once again pulled the drivers side valve cover and looked at the harness connector. This time I took my time checked the connection which was loose and put a Quarter in it to make it stay. (Last time I pulled it in a hurry and pinched the connector closed without realizing it. I have a 97 F-350 4X4 7.3L it is unsafe to drive, as it just quits driving down the road, then it won't start for 1 to 2 hours, and then sometimes it only goes 1/4 mile and quit again or sometimes it will go 200+ miles but we never know when or where it quits, sometimes it has codes one is P1316 and another code, and the parts store looked them up and said that one code list 28 parts it could be and the other 30 parts, he said that's 90% of the engine!! It doesn't run ruff like in this video, it runs great when it's running but it just quits... I took it down to the rip-off places near me that charge $250.00 just to read the codes! Saying that's Diagnostic fee, and gets a "OUTRAGEOUS" $150.00 BUCKS AN HOUR!! NO ONE DESERVES MORE THAN UNION PAY OF $25.00 PER HOUR!! Especially when they charge to replace a part they say will fix it, and it doesn't fix the problem!! Called Ford they won't even look at it, or even give me an idea of what it would be... So I will NEVER EVER buy a Ford again!! I called the Chevy dealer near me and said I had a 97 pickup truck and they said bring it down! I'm Handicapped and on a low fixed income and after replacing 3 parts that "THEY SAID WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM" and spending thousands of dollars and finding that I could have bought all those parts for under 100 bucks on the internet... I need to help my neighbor go from Vegas to NH to take care of her sick sister and she has her grandson with her as well, so this needs to get fixed... So I need someone that has had this problem and list what fixed it... Or get someone that will fix this for a reasonable price, and I will film it... Please Help...

Ron I need to prob your brain! =]
I gotta tear into my 1994.5 and figure out where my miss is. I hope its a wiring harness but i fear its possibly the solenoid because it keeps giving me a check engine light and looses power big time when the light comes on. Seems that the IDM is cutting all injectors back. It runs fine until the light comes on other than a slight miss. But as soon as the check engine light comes on it looses power big time!! On the 1994.5 it doesn't do the buzz check. Plus it has two harness plugs on each gasket which if one looses connection you might very well loose one or two cylinders instead of the whole side.
    Great video man!!

*****WARNING******* DO NOT USE A QUATER FOR THIS REPAIR. USE A STEEL WASHER!!!! I used a quater and dropped into a deep crevice next to the push rod. I had to pull the rocker and rod out. And stil struggled to get it out with some very long hemostats. Had I used a steel washer it would haved literally saved me hours! I could have just used a magnet to retrieve it. Also my clip was so brittle it had broken. So I had to use some RTV to glue it together.

Ron, love that quarter trick. However I have a 97 Powerstroke that sounds exactly like the quarter trick truck. Had local ford dealer scan the truck for 150.00. Teck changed CP's for test then said injector 1 and 3. I replaced valve cover gasket on that side and harness plugs. Also changed injector 3. This resulted in no change in performance. Went to passenger side removed valve cover and disconnected injectors while the engine was running. 2 cyl made little change and other 2 almost stalled the engine. Decided to swap injectors 2 and 4. After the swap problem did not show up. Now 3 out of 4 disconnects made a large drop in rpm. Next move to replace valve cover gasket and harness plugs on the even side. Anny suggestions?
