    i bought one 2 weeks ago, even running it in, its a fantastic bike, so light and flickable on the twisties 😁
    After 32yrs of riding 1000cc+ bikes, i sold my bought new 2018 R1200GS 'Rallye' and bought a RE Himalayan and loved it, ..BUT this KTM390 Adv is going to be my 'little bad boy' 💪 , I live in the UK Lake district (Cumbria) and this excellent bike is going to show up some big bike riders on the local lake roads..just loving this bike to bits ❤
    At 56yrs old now, I finely realised that there is more fun riding a lighter, smaller engine bike fast, than a heavy, large engine bike slow 🤣
    I picked it up new on Thursday , got a rear rack delivered on Friday and took it loaded up with camping gear for the weekend..rode it 100 miles without a stop, the seat is very firm but also very comfortable , with more miles i travel the seat will break in EVEN more comfortable..this 390ADV is going to be my high mileage touring bike due to lightweight touring bikes are the way to go in my 3 decades of riding experience and nothing compares to the power that the KTM390 motor will give you 😄

      If you have a short ride to the trails pick up a 390 or even a dual sport bike like the 350 exc. Much lighter and still manageable off road.

    I'm a retired public safety officer (police motorcycle) and I have rode a lot of bikes in my years, Harley, BMW, Kawasaki, Suzuki and I have owned and ridden just about everything with the exception of a KTM. Well that changed last fall (2022) with my purchase of the new 2022 KTM 390 Adventure. I was looking to replace my R1150GSA with a smaller bike and wanted something around a 400cc displacement, figuring that was the size that would be fit my need of a light weight machine that could still ride the highways. When I found the KTM 390 Adventure, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. It is a blast to ride, easy to handle and I'm averaging right at 70 mpg / 30 km/l. I just wish there were stock heated grips I could purchase and then the bike would be perfect.

    I love the 390 platform. I own (and LOVE) my 1190 Adv R but it is heavy... and expensive to maintain. in 2017 I picked up a 390 Duke and "Adventurized" it... SO Freaking FUN! Just last month I added a 390 Adv to the mix as the suspension on the Adv is way better than the Duke. For the daily commute or ADV... the 390 is a great and "less expensive" option all the way around. Drive train on the 1190 is close to $350 while on the 390 it is closer to $150 and I have found this with many parts. Low on cc's but BIG on FUN the 390 is.... Looking for more!

      Why is everyone always searching for more power ? Why a more heavy, more complicated engine when this is more than enough.
      This bike has as much power as a 250F mx bike, everything more than that is overkill for 99.99% of all riders in the world.
      There's not even many that manage to get everything out of 40HP...
      The real difference is made by the guy on top of the bike, not the extra power or 1001 extra electrical toys, helpers etc.
      If you want to invest in something, invest in yourself and in good suspension, those are the topics you can improve most ;)

    Another year and the footpegs are still angled. I think the only difference between the 2022 and 2023 models is the spoked wheels.
    If KTM wants to step up their optional parts range, lower and flat footpegs and bar risers or handlebars with higher grips will go down well with riders who want to stand up comfortably. Finding aftermarket footpegs that are lowered and have a rubber insert is a real challenge. I don't want just a metal cleat because I'm not always going to be riding in wet or muddy conditions, and dampening vibrations from the engine is still important for comfort.

    My dream bike would be one similar to the 690 enduro, but with this engine. Weight under 150Kg (possibly 140), two versions (normal and big tank), 18/21 wheels, big ground clearance. Now that would sell a lot, I think. Basically something in the same category as the crf300 rally, but with a decent power. I mean, the 690 enduro has over 70hp and it's about 155Kg, why can't you make a smaller version of that one...

    The cast wheels were the weak point on this bike, I dented one up enough to break the bead and had to get a new one, then dented it a week later. If I knew they were coming out with a spoked option I probably would have thought twice about buying a used 890 R, haha.
    I'm going to miss my 390; I have a 690 Enduro as well and don't need a million bikes so it has to go, but I took it to some really gnarly places that I probably shouldn't have.

      I dented a wheel in a few places on the way to a camp trip and wound up breaking the bead and had to put a tube in. I didn't crash the bike, just hit a pothole and the tire deflated and I came to a stop. I bought a new wheel for $1000 and it had a dent a week later.
      I probably rode it harder than most would, it's not like I was beating on it, but it was enough for me to decide to upgrade to an 890R. Had I known they had a spoked option coming I probably would have kept it and took it town to Panama like my original plan.

    Finally we have now proper adventures tourer ❤❤. But KTM need to work on the seat height. If you are 6 feet then its perfect. Else you have to struggle

    I've been using it for 2 years.
    The rear suspension of an engine sold as an adventure doesn't explode on its own.
    The wind diffusers of the engine sold as Advanture do not break by themselves.
    The screen of the engine sold as adventure does not fog.
    I passed them all service is irrelevant

    Unfortunately the seat height on this bike isn’t on the low side which is really disappointing for shorter riders that aren’t overly tall.
    I really wish KTM had made the seat height lower on this bike. If it did it would appeal to more riders looking at getting into adventure riding for the first time.

      I believe the rider's common term would be Single Wheel, as in front only, when in the offroad mode selection.

    That's a crisp T shirt, straight out of the packet Birchy... Full factory. The bike looks great as well and not just for new riders with that spec. Be interesting to see how far it could be upgraded to progress with increasing experience, riding ability and demand.

    I just wish KTM would ditch the TFT that's used on these dad an I had two 2021 bikes rejected both at 147 and 269 miles full off issues mainly relating to PDI's but issues with one stalling no hazard lights lead to nearly getting took out by a van. An issues with the TFT Displays on both bikes full off condensation in the UK live near the cat and fiddle an on a winters day it was illegible I've had lot's off messages from others who are on 3+ replaced displays, so if anyone reads this from KTM put the display from the other bikes on it for the UK Market that's not in the problematic housing.

    Since my city road quality is inconsistent and road surface's traction is unpredictable, should I always use Offroad riding techniques on road just for safety reason? I have bought Chris's ADV Riding course, and I apply almost all of the techniques in my city roads, which is very fun. But I am not sure If I should do that or use road riding techniques?

    • @dirtrider9268
      @dirtrider9268 Год назад

      I'm no Chris B but after 40 years in the avid pursuit of better formal training for 2 wheels, i suggest to use off road techniques, like when turning with the bike moving counter under your position. That is how US highway patrol bike officers are trained too. And always lighten the front suspension when hitting a bump headon, use throttle and body. Stand up in the hinge position for potholes or sharper bumps. Dont grip the bars tight, especially when bike is jolted by bumps or in wobbles. Toes pointed in, gets you more leg leverage. Weight the outside peg. One or two fingers on front brake. Think of these as just bike riding techniques that works everywhere, unless you race on paved track days, then a couple other tips like elbows in and down like Chris mentioned, helps in street race mode primarily. Clutch feathering needed more in dirt. Practice emergency braking w both brakes and balance in tight turns. Practice these often.

      @@dirtrider9268 thank you very much. It means that I should asume that the city roads are all low traction, bumpy so I should use OffRoad skills all the time to prepare for all sudden change in road surface quality? Thank you very much for your tips. I really appreciate it.

    • @dirtrider9268
      @dirtrider9268 Год назад

      @@patrolduty8715 yes exactly. One of my trainers impressed, learn to ride in the dirt, (where its loose all the time) to improve race track skills. I studied w Keith code and Gary Jaene, and many others and i still set up cones in parking lots on weekends to practice tight turns and figure eights, running over mid corner bumps, etc. Thanks for listening.

      @@dirtrider9268 thank you sir. Today, at lunch time, I bring my bike to parking lot and try to practice tight turn with offroad techniques as you suggest. It feels so good and combine with counter steering, I finally can lean my bike so low while being straight body position with great vision. My chicken strips on both front and rear tires are gone. Haha. Thank you sir, again.
