I got back into playing guitar just to try to play his songs. When I started a year ago I could barely play them, now I can play and sing a lot of them. I recently just learned this one.
I love this video because nobody in the audience is talking at all. It just dead silent. God I wish I lived in England to experience a quiet concert and to see Dallas play hometown glory live!!
This guys is simply awesome! He has a voice tht just carries so well. You Sir are a true singer/songwriter thank you for not giving up! This also show the world you don't need booming bass and funky dance moves and other crap to make great music. Just real talent needed.
I was at this too. Must be honest, shed a tear during this song. The whole night Dallas seemed totally humbled by the experience and when he mentioned it was the first song he ever really wrote and put it in context I was just like "WwwaahhhhhhHH" aka cried like a little girl. Dallas Green is a genius. Anyone else find it hilarious yet a little embarassing when someone shouted out "because he goes balls deep" when Dallas was explaining why his lighting guy was a legend? hahaha. bad.
This is so wonderfully chilling I don't even know how to cope. This song just lets my soul bleed out just enough to heal back up. Thank you so much!! And how freakin incredible is it that he wrote this at 17! My god! Im 17 now and have a hard time even writing down hat I have to do for the day. COMPLETELY IN LOVE!
This song will get me everytime. He makes pain sound so beautiful. I have been fortunate enough to see him live atleast 3 times over the years.....I must say that if Jesus could sing, I believe he would sound like Dallas.
just saw Dallas and the Colour last nite opening for Pink in St Paul, MN. The crowd put forth a lukewarm reception (but weren't rude and, understandably, they were there to see Ms Pink) but I soaked in every minute. He was mesmerizing and his band was tight like a tiger....
The quality of this is amazing and its such a beautiful gig!! Plus I love that audience was so respectful and cheered at appropriate times and wasnt talking when he played. Thats the respect this man deserves. What a legendary artist he's making himself to be! Dallas is the man! Thanks for recording and uploading this for everyone! :)
@breaknthebeat I 100% agree. Like Knives hasn't ever been a favourite of mine, i've always liked it but never a favourite. It was incredible, I just sat there and cried! haha
And I will blame myself For holding on to what i hoped to keep you by my side I will blame myself If there's ever gonna be a beter line to express how you can feel about missing somebody i'm shore Dallas will make it.
He played this a little different back then. He use to use a pic and up'd the tempo a little more. As the years have gone by you can tell he's messed around with this song a little bit. Adding more licks to the guitar, and maturely emotionally through vocals. It's amazing what time will do to a song. Especially when you have unique talent like this man writing it.
After hearing this i think dallas should go back to sometimes and remaster all of them, just the little things that he plays differently are just amazing.
hey thanks man! and i agree. our drummers drums are really bad though, and it was this guys almost first time recording a band. so everything is really raw. but thanks for the opinion!
Hey dude, I went to your site, I like it, but you need a better recording system. I recommend recording each instrument individually, and multiple mics for the drum set, and if you can't afford that, invest in an electric drum set. Also, try to mix it a little better, the drums need to be louder, and the voice not so overpowering. Sick song though!
YOUR IN A THEATRE DONT FUCKING INTERRUPT SOMEONE IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG BY FUCKING CHEERING AND WOOPING THERE ARE CERTAIN PROCEDURES.. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S DALLAS GREEN! WAIT UNTILL THE END
I love that the crowd is completely silent when he sings. perfection
If I have kids and they come up with something like that, I will be the proudest and most emotional dad ever.
absolutely agree :)
The belting of can I have you at the end, chills everytime
To write song as good as this, and for it to stay relevant all this time later is a real testament to how talented he is.
I got back into playing guitar just to try to play his songs. When I started a year ago I could barely play them, now I can play and sing a lot of them. I recently just learned this one.
My favorite performer of all time
I love this video because nobody in the audience is talking at all. It just dead silent. God I wish I lived in England to experience a quiet concert and to see Dallas play hometown glory live!!
I have listened to him for over ten years too. I shed many tears listening to this song.
Beautiful. I like how he looks up at the end, quick smile and nod to the crowd as if he just realized they were still there. Haha love it!
Every time he sings "Can I have you" I got chills. Beautiful Dallas, simply beautiful
I love how audiance keeps silent, hearing his painfully beautifull voice. I just love this man.
Chills every single time I hear this song. Every single version.

The tuning of the strings/capo in this song bring that gorgeous bellowing hum out.
unexpectedly this was my favourite song of the night, great venue, great talent and a great lasting memory
Got goosebumps as soon as he sang the first lyric. Immaculate.

This should have 47 million views!
Edit: I can't believe he wrote these lyrics at the age of 17. I did nothing at 17. Absolutely nothing.
We did the same thing at 17..
Same, right here 🙋🏻♂️

What I wouldn’t give for his voice. Fawk!

And I will blame myself
For holding on to what i hoped to keep you by my side
I will blame myself
If there's ever gonna be a beter line to express how you can feel about missing somebody i'm shore Dallas will make it.
4:50 ... and that's where the tears just flow evrytime...
i'm glad you got all this, my battery ran out half way through this song. most emotional gig ever!
Holy crap! How could he write a song like this at 17?

Ha.....Dallas, you've got my ears forever dude~
total man crush.
I love how respectful the crowd was not to cheer during his singing
wow he has added some new guitar wankery parts to this. ill be playing this all day now :D
best moment of my life
I must say, I am truly envious of you :(
I am going to see him live in May and I want him to play this so badly but I know it won't happen! :(
love your description
Just for the record, it's "For holding on to what I hoped would keep you by my side"
His mum must have been so proud when he sang that to her.
17 years old...kill me right now.
The best of Dallas Green is when he sings his songs with only his acoustic guitar.
@MichiganPride3132816 . i was there too and had a similar view. was mind blowing!
Sounds like a choir of angels was singing with him
4:07 instant chills
Classy Dallas
After hearing this i think dallas should go back to sometimes and remaster all of them, just the little things that he plays differently are just amazing.
Fucking incredible
holy shit! he never does this live!
hey thanks man! and i agree. our drummers drums are really bad though, and it was this guys almost first time recording a band. so everything is really raw. but thanks for the opinion!

Lol, this comment didn't age well. This song's recording became famous all over the world.
I want to know that one person that clicked dislike.
