Really enjoy the sound of a well tuned BSA A65. A good way to fit rings when you know how they squeeze into the bores. I only do single cylinder engines sans ring squeezer. Chainsaws are easy done, like so. I will be checking back! 👍💯%
@jackrichards1863 we are trying to be optimistic about this project and giving it good effort, but it's been fighting us the whole way. This particular engine was supposed to be "lightly stuck", but found out differently when I got into it. The cylinders were so bad we had to find another used set that we had to bore out. It will be abit until I actually get it running, one step foward 2 steps back with this one. The studs to this cylinder have been modified, so I'm dealing with that now. I also have many other jobs I'm also working on at the present time so I will be bouncing back and forth between them, but yes check back from time to time to see if I'm making any headway. Thanks for watching 🐲
You got the job done, but I’m surprised you didn’t use ring compressors. I have a 70 fire bird also and just took the head off because the head gasket was leaking badly. They are wonderful machines these BSA’s.
@Mr39knuck wow I thought it would take a little longer before someone said something about a ring compressor😅. This is just how I've always done it no matter what engine I work on, and I do quite a few of them a year. But I try to never work on British Bikes, I'm only trying to help someone out. Just trying to peice together a runner for him, he has been through hell the past 4 years trying to get this thing together. I think this is his 5th engine he bought, all have had serious problems. This one is mixed matched. Thanks for watching and commenting 🐲
@ call me the central scrutinizer. Because I’ve been doing my top end I’ve been watching all kinds of piston ring videos, and Paul Henshaw if you have ever seen him just did a nice video on using nylon cable ties over the compressor to put on the rings and it worked pretty sweet. The piston ring videos warn against not using a compressor, but hey, it’s a chopper!..man 😬 I have a lot of BSA’s and my 70 has given me the most grief, but I love it . Hopefully your friend has found the right man to get his bike on the road.
Oh yeah, if one is not well versed and experienced in engine building, I would think the ring compressor and videos about how to use it would be a good way to go.
