Thanks for the great video. Have you noticed the levels of your metering tools changing while adjusting your brightness or contrast on the monitor itself? Not sure if I have a faulty unit or not but mine suffers from this issue. Waveform, false color, histogram shift up and down while adjusting brightness/contrast. Can't judge exposure reliably this way!!
My first time watching your video. I love the breakdown of this monitor. Your setup and lighting are so good. Love the pacman light. I will check out this monitor. I have an A6500.
Thanks Stacey - the lighting setup is super cheap and simple 👍🏻 Got the Pacman light for Xmas and loving it too! I’ve always struggled seeing the screen on the A6500 so this monitor is the perfect pairing 👌🏻
Great review mate - the camera screen going blank could be a bit of a deal breaker. I'm looking into this monitor for my A7Siii - don't suppose you know if the same thing happens when paired with that camera? Thanks
Hi, liked your review and I really would like to purchase a monitor such as the R6. You mentioned 2 HDMI ports. Would’ve been great if you mentioned what they each were used for. Why 2 HDMI’s? You also mentioned about it being easy for adding your own LUTs which sounds great. After you add your LUT, is that it, or do you still need to add your LUT again in post-production such as ‘Devinci Resolve’, defeating adding your LUT through the monitor in the first place. I don’t know, I’m confused.
One hdmi is the input and one is passthrough output so you can hook up more hdmi monitors from this one or hook it up to video transmitters. The output is same 4k 30fps. This is just a monitor and not a recorder so the luts on the monitor just show you what your video will look like after editing. It helps you make camera changes for the look you want while recording. You still have to add the lut to your editing software.
Yeah, got the monitor and read the instructions to format the USB, which I did, and then after reading that I had to download a firmware update to the USB I couldn't find anywhere to download the firmware, nowhere, I mean absolutely nowhere. Email to Desview has resulted in no help so far. Not that impressed.
When I hit record on my A7iii, the monitor and camera screens go black for 5-10 seconds. Do you know why this occurs? It is pretty frustrating while shooting action shots because you may miss out on a shot.
@@StuartRodwell Thanks for your response. I’ve been searching for ND filters and I feel stuck not knowing which one to get. Can you recommend anything? Also, I purchased your LUTs pack and they’re by far the best one I’ve used.
Hey Cray, thanks so much for picking up the presets 🙏🏻. Yes I can help here, my advice would be look into step up/down rings. I bought a Tiffen for my 30mm, a Gobe for my 16, and a cheap Zomei for my 56mm. In summary, it’s a pain having 3 different variable Nd filters for each lens - instead I would look to invest in one decent variable Nd filter - then get get step rings for your other lenses - hope that helps!
@@StuartRodwell thanks Stu. I have both 56 and 16 and the step rings might work. Thanks for sharing the make of the ND filters you’re using, will check them out.
just started using the this monitor with my Lumix S5. when I switch my camera to 4k60 the monitor still works but turns everything blue and yellow. curious if there is any way around this or if you know why it happens. pretty frustrating because I shoot 60fps a good bit.
Hello I just got the r6 monitor and I i have an issue I think , I have contacted to my camera a7iii and when I turn on the monitor doesn't saw me a full screen but has a black bars on the left and right side !! What I have too do there is any settings? Thank you
the screen goink blank is not because of the montinor... there is an option or something on the camera... my Small HD was doing the same... it s something to switch in the option
Cameras only have so much processor power per dollar that any consumer wants to spend within their means. I have two Sony cameras (A73 and FDR-AX700) and they both have limitations on how many features shown in the menus that they will actually deliver at a given time. Reading the big 300 page manual intently actually has the information - not much fun to search for but it's there.
Good morning, I just bought the Desview R & UHB monitor, and I have a problem when I turn on the monitor, the camera monitor turns off, could you help me? thank you and greetings
I have a problem and cannot find a solution to it. While I can use the swipe up/down gesture to increase/decrease the brightness of the screen, it immediately resorts back to the automatically set brightness (from the light sensor) as soon as I lift my finger from the screen. I have absolutely no manual control over the brightness. If I point a torch onto the light sensor, it does automatically increase the brightness. To me it appears that the only thing that actually works if the fully automatic process, not the manual one. Am I doing something wrong here? Does your device operate the same way? Can anyone help?
I had a bad experience with Desview R5 before which was a huge problem, the gain output of the headphone jack of it is too low to monitor when shooting and even zero output when playback the footage. This is a deadly issue because most of dslr when output to a monitor through HDMI they also mute disable their headphone jack so the monitor's jack is the only option. Could you check whether this is still a problem with this model?
If you really work with your camera, don’t waste your money on this monitor, it feels incredibly cheap and plasticity. I can’t imagine this lasting long enough to get your money’s worth.

Great review! I currently have this in my shopping cart. Just subscribed!

Hi love your review, but can you use dc in and battery at the same time? What happens if you do that?
Can I see my video on this monitor if I recording at 100fps in ful hd? Or 50fps on 4k??
The monitor claims the NP-F970 is compatible. I was not able to use the battery. It would not fit. Have you tried them?
Hi @stuart, can the DC out 8V power the sony a6500(with a dummy batt) while recording?
It should. That's the main purpose for the 8.4 output is to power (2 cell 7.4V battery) cameras.
What you use for a sun shade ? i have Desview R6

Nice video Stu, btw been meaning to ask, do use ND filter for your 56mm wide open at 1.4? TIA
Thank you 🙏🏻. I have ND filters for all the Sigma lenses ...but lately I’ve been lazy and just end up cranking my shutter speed up

Hey man, did you fix this problem?
@@Viniciofilms I have not unfortunately. So I just only use the monitor for 24fps projects
I believe the R6 can only handle up to 4K30 input, whereas the U6 can handle 4K60.
Can you view the footage on the R6? I couldn't play the footage ,and the camera's built in screen only shows tv out
Hey, yes I can confirm that you can playback the footage from the Sony camera on the R6 display 👍🏻

the light sensor is on the bottom left hand corner of the front of the monitor
Seems like awesome !! 💯
It really is! My favourite new accessory!
Very helpful..thanks
Glad it came in useful 👍🏻
My screen dims by itself, is it anyway i can lock it at its highest brightness?
I'm using a6400
I've heard people say that blocking the light sensor (with tape, etc) stops it from auto adjusting.
