    Thanks Bootsowen. I have a 1992 T4 Westfalia with the 2.4D AAB engine - Your uploads have helped me no end keeping up with its constant maintenance. It's 31 years old and runing grand. Best of luck with your channel 👍

    I did laugh at this. You're a man of so many talents. You helped me sort my washing machine and now i discovered you're aT4. it didn't click, i recognised the accent!

    I angle ground a larger hole in the belly pan to reach the oil filter from outside. Worked fine.

      That is a great idea. I have done about 20 oil changes on this van and I still have it. You could even hinge the cut out piece back on as a little door. But I’d only be making work for myself! I think the grinder is coming out for the next oil change.

      @@bootsowen You still have to hold an oily slippery filtre with one hand while it tries to bury itself below the sump, but it saves dropping that giant steel bucket off the van.

      @@bootsowen Have you swapped 5th gear in your TD? I did ours and it's so much better on long motorway trips.

    I idle the car for 5 seconds after the oil is drained out. That way the oil filter is empty.

    Hi, @bootsowen! I'm having trouble with the same engine (I'm like 95% sure mine is ABL as well). While driving, the oil light starts to blink and beep. When I restart the engine it goes off and doesn't light up for varied amount of time. What would you recommend to do in order to pinpoint the cause of the issue without replacing the whole engine in the process? :) Do you know how to find out what's the proper pressure I should read if I replace pressure sensor(s) with gauge? And most of all - how do you not lose your senses because you just don't want to drive another car than VW T4?

      Hi there, what colour is the oil light that is flashing? Yellow or red?

    • @bootsowen
      @bootsowen  5 лет назад +1

      I think red is pressure low and yellow is oil level low. Obviously check the oil level first! I have had the red come on flashing recently (2 years ago) and found that it was so cheap to change the sensor that I did this first along with an oil and filter change and that fixed it. ( i made a video of this in my vw playlist) I had a fault about 7 or 8 years ago with the yellow oil light coming on or flashing, can't remember which, but it also had the rev counter doing strange things, reading low or nothing, turned out a set of brushes in the alternator cured it. Tomas Exocvds (on youtube) is helpful if you want data like pressures. I just replaced the sensor because it was cheap. (eBay).

      @@bootsowen it's a '93 Multivan, old dashboard - I only saw it red. But with low oil it's solid red with no beep if I recall correctly. The oil level is good, doesn't smell nor feel like it's leaking diesel into oil. It doesn't go off if I floor it, only restarting fixes it for a while.

      Up to you then, I would replace the pressure sensor, and see what happens, it is very cheap and when you are in there testing it you might as well just put in a new one!. I have made a video on this, it is in my VW playlist. Thanks

    Looks like you've got a coolant leak at water pump gasket

    • @bootsowen
      @bootsowen  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, indeed, there are quite a few pink smudges around the engine, higher up too, but it runs sweet. That pump was replaced 4 years ago, still going strong, doesn't lose coolant, so I'm not worried.
