  • Hapag-Lloyd Europa 2 has been given the top ratings since its launch in 2013 and is seen by many passengers and cruise writers as the best luxury ship in the world. It holds 500 guests and has all outside cabins. Catering premium cruisers it has plush boutique hotel style decor. The ship is improved and updated every two years to keep it looking great and catering for the prestige traveller. I toured the ship in October 2017 just after some of the biggest changes and talk about and show these in the video.
    I would love you to give the video a "thumbs up" and if you subscribed to the channel now: bit.ly/TFT_RUclips2

    Thanks, Gary, for another great ship overview. Your videos and website helped me greatly as we booked our first cruise (Windstar Venetian Passageway aboard the Star Breeze). You've quickly become my go-to RUclipsr for travel advice and features. Cheers!

    What do you think if the ship? One you would want to sail on? Leave your thoughts!

    • @petrfrizen6078
      @petrfrizen6078 6 лет назад

      Naturally, I would like to sail on it. As I mentioned above, the design is very advanced. About the food: all those seductively looking pastries and other edibles - victuals: are there any vegan - vegetarian options?

      You remind me very much of a fellow passenger, who was travelling with Australian friends, I met on an Europa 2 cruise.

      Those green Murano chandeliers and pinkish red Chihuly-like chandeliers! Fellini-like dream lighting, yet restrained by the up-to-the-minute decor below. It is modern yet warm and inviting. And the exterior is elegant. In spite of all those balconies, it manages not to look like a hotel on a barge.

      You didn't say but I heard that this ship was more smoker friendly with smoking allowed in Sansibar and in the cigar bar as well as in stateroom balconies. Is this still true? If so this is the ship for my wife and I.

    One of your best reports Gary. I sailed on Europa 2, 3 years ago, and to be honest it was not perfect, but a bit fab!
    Style wise it is a bit Scandi/show home/sterile. Staff are great and have fine English language skill. 3 years ago entertainment was of a mixed quality.
    However Hapag Lloyd refit EVERY 2 YEARS! As Garry shows the ship is constantly improved and (boasting here) I will be back on it in a few days time.
    It could be perfect now? The parties 3 years ago were excellent! You do need to pay for your drinks (except during parties) BUT the choice is excellent and prices fare.
    Costs lots but if it is exceptional value for money as I expect I will let you know....

    I am back from the Sri Lanka to Bali voyage, my second time on this ship. Your video is perfect for the look and feel however the final value for me takes in things like pre board/ticketing (ours were sent to a couple in Belgium who not only had all our details but even knew our travel agents commission HL having sent them that to). Boarding, Tendering, and departing the ship were all bad once again. One coach short to get us to the ship, final port we had no berth at departure time and were crammed with our hand luggage into a tender. The excellent cabins have poor sound/wall insulation, and the complex (8) bed side light switches are still there. Due to German smoking habits it can easily happen that all day smoking and coughing can be on either side of your balcony. Restaurants are fabulous but stiff, you are frowned at if you unfold your napkin for yourself, and food plates arrive in tandem and removed the same. On a slow night (with lots of courses) dinner can take close to 3 hours.
    Entertainment is variable. Even with a great "International Hostess" to help non Germans there can be very few English speakers on board. True ALL the staff can speak English but it may not "flow". The bottom line is whether you would be comfortable with German "culture" so to speak, the food is "German/Continental" excellent mostly but after a while you may actually miss British/American treats. The scones were as only one example appalling. All water in restaurants must be bought by the bottle.
    The wine/drinks list is excellent and affordable. Friends did have a "sun bed fight" when all their possessions were moved and the bed taken over! The beach party outing was again quite amazing in style comfort and generosity, with drink flowing, it was unfortunate that the Doctor was not on shore when guests started falling down drunk!!
    An amazing ship, now improved ,and so well booked up by the Germans that I wonder if it would not be a lot cheaper for Hapag Lloyd to give up on encouraging "International" guests one day.

      Thanks for your experiences and insights. Really interesting to hear. They really want to attract more non-German guests but as you say at the moment the demand from them is so high. I’m on in July and will be interesting to see and if have same experience and issues as you (I hear a lot about the lights in the cabin and difficulties with working them out!)

      The lights will certainly test one's Zen like calm demeanour,
      With regard to the food, the selection in the Yacht Club buffet restaurant is very impressive, and there are also the Asian, and Japanese Sushi restaurants.
      I don't know what constitutes British/ American treats, but one can always order off menu items in the Weltmeere main restaurant.
      Afternoon tea in the Belvedere Lounge offers a good selection of leaf teas, and pastries.
      And then there is afternoon waffles, or ice cream, on the Pool Deck.
      For me, the food is one of the main highlights on the Europa 2.
      Another highlight, for me, is customer service.
      On one of my cruises, I had booked, via Hapag-Lloyd, a pre-cruise hotel in Hamburg for two nights.
      Two days before I was due to fly out to Germany, the hotel notified H-L that it was over booked, and my reservation was cancelled.
      H-L booked me into a comparable hotel, refunded me the cost of the original hotel, and paid for the replacement hotel.

      Need to correct what I wrote above , it was not Hapag-Lloyd who sent my tickets/private info to another passenger in Belgium, it was my travel agent!
      ps The number of English speakers on each cruise varies greatly but as has been said before there is a British Hostess on board who will look after non German speakers.

    Very beautifully designed! Is there the Europe One ship, Gary? If there is, - have you paid a visit onboard?

    • @tipsfortravellers
      @tipsfortravellers  6 лет назад +1

      +Petr Frizen I agree it is beautiful. Yes, there is a Europa 1 sister ship which also is supposed to be very attractive. It caters more for the German market and is less international. I have not been on that and only seen it from the outside

      Actually, the FRG serial “Das Traum Schiff” (“The Dream Ship”) is quite interesting. Have you watched it, Gary?
