    I see him with San Diego. I gave up on wishing he'd become a NY Met.

    Dudes coming in league for minimum wage as a rookie. Not even a doubt he's going to the Japanese Dodgers errr I mean the LA Dodgers. Mets will be in bidding war for him years down the road when he can get real money and Mets are awesome by then. As of now it makes no sense whatsoever for him to not play for Dodgers unless he has bad blood with ohtani which he does not.

    I think Sasaki will select the Mets. He would be "The Man," in the Mets rotation and he would have a ton of commercial endorsement opportunities in NYC.

      Japanese players don't care about any of that. He will stay 8n the Westcoast.

      @@JoelC724Actually, it used to be common for Japanese players to avoid MLB teams that already had other Japanese players, which was the meaning behind Joel Wolfe's comments on the topic. They didn't want to compete for the roster.
      That said, West Coast is definitely easier for Japanese expats due to the availability of Japanese supermarkets, schools, restaurants, etc.
      And some Japanese pitchers are sensitive to climate/weather, which is something that Darvish, Kikuchi, and Ohtani have all mentioned. Ohtani grew up in Iwate Prefecture and played professionally in Hokkaido, both locations are known for cold winters. Which is why he didn't meet with East Coast teams when he was posted at age 23. Darvish attended high in Sendai and also played for Hokkaido Fighters, and Kikuchi is from the same prefecture and high school as Ohtani...so they all know extremely cold snowy winters. Sasaki was also born and raised in Iwate Prefecture...which may or may not influence how chooses a location.

      Not sure if Sasaki impacts the offensive additions all that much but if the Mets have ANY plans at all for another SP, they will definitely wait for Roki I agree.

    He is going to be a dodger i just to dont see how the mets can sway him away. Even if the mets have in recent times built a pitching lab that is getting more praise especially from roki himself, its hard to see him come here if he can go to LA with longer track record and the depth so he doesnt need to be the guy on day 1

    The Mets will sign Roki Sasaki to a minor-league deal, including a signing bonus of a whopping $2.55 million, so next season, Roki will have the best season by a rookie pitcher.

    I believe METS are the leading choice for Roki...He knows Senga, there are already built-in translator(s) and he relishes the opportunity to improve in the Pitching Lab which Roki has highlighted as important to his future development plan...Lastly, the initital mandated/capped contract is unimportant because he and his people know that he will command a record contract after his first contract and Steve Cohen has the wherewithal to set that record-for-a-pitcher deal

    • @TrueMetsTalk
      @TrueMetsTalk  Месяц назад

      He has to perform to get that record contract, though... thus wanting the best situation he can possibly walk into right now. I think the Mets have all the tools he would want as well but not entirely convinced that draws him away from LAD when it's all said and done. Mets will at the very least be a strong consideration for what it's worth.
