I've been on the hunt for a solid free/open source granular synth for a little while, as I might be starting an electronic music class at work in the near future. (my day job is in the office for a symphony orchestra and it's music school) This looks great! Thank you very much for introducing us to it.
This totally has that Dawsome flavorings with the FX you added!!! This is so amazing. I'm gonna grab this one for sure. I hope they make an FX version someday as well
I use the granular engine in Pigments a lot, but this seems like an interesting approach which is definitely worth checking out at the price! I would also stick it through a free granular delay like Bubbler or Emergence, because you can't have too much granular IMO! 😉
i have a question: at 8:09 the rate of the sine lfo was lowered which made sense, but the actual speed of it lowered at the same time. how was this done? when i lower the rate of the lfo then the rate itself is lower, but the dot thing indicating the speed of it is still as fast as it is before lowering the rate - if that makes sense
@@DashGlitch yeah, the sound and visual speed of the dot doesnt change like how it did in the video when the rate of the lfo is lowered, not sure if bug for me or if i forgot to do something
Today I tried the demo of Korg Collection 4. I must say that I haven't heard such mature sounds for a long time. Something completely different from what you hear in today's hard candy trance. A whole lot of organic sounds of great quality. While listening to the samples, I went crazy. I haven't heard so many possibilities in one package for a long time. Triton extreme, modwave rip off my head. Maybe one day you will pay attention to Korg collection 😉
As a sound designer I look more for features than factory soundbanks, Korg stuff is great I have explored it a lot in my early years, triton was a classic in 90s
anyone know if this is close to being like sound guru's "the mangle"? of all the tutorials of different granular plugins i've watched, it seems to be. i loved the mangle. but it's defunct, now, and there's no mac M1 compatibility. would have been easier to follow what it was doing without the massive amounts of reverb.
Well, it does seem to be a lot more intuitive and easy on the eye then The Grid’s own onboard granular sampler. Can poly AT be used to modulate the play head position per individual note?
@@DashGlitch Please do. Most seem to look at granular sampling more like a box full of Lego pieces. Let’s see what happens. Nothing wrong with that but granular can also be used as a scalpel with which one can ride through the harmonic content of the original sound being able to keep the best of it and restart from there. 🤓😄
@@marcbrasse747 ok so I have some interesting findings, there is a global control for the envelopes, but EACH of the grain slots (from C through to B) have their own envelope, which can be addressed individually by MIDI. So it's different to Poly AT in terms of traditional voicing, but each of the slots is individually addressable, so you can get some very fine control
@@DashGlitch Thanks for the info. This grain slot concept seems to be very well thought out. In the mean time I also asked my question on thie rown RUclips channel. The developer liked the idea but The VST alas does not provide poly AT / MPE yet. He did however say he'd put it on the Github list and maybe even implement it himself if time permits!
Ngl youre the better virtual riot with these videos. He just stretches them out to like 30-60mins and you actually explain shit lol. He just shows already existing methods and stuff and you expand upon them, for example with the Au5 serum resonator technique. Thanks for making actually good videos with no bs
Thank you for the video. I would have liked to hear how smooth it could be with maximum number of grains per milliseconds as this is where most granular synth fail. They don't have enough grains per milisecond to truly oscillate.
@@DashGlitch thank you for your answer. But for me the right illustration of what I mean is Rapid. As with its granular oscillators, you can reach a point where you don't hear the grains. If I missed this with phaseplant, I'd really love to understand how to do it, as I'm a legit user and was disappointed for the first time by Kilohearts. I expected an exceptional granular oscillator and this update only reached a sampler with granular effects. And as I could read, I'm not the only one who felt that way. So really, if you could do a video explaining this, that would be awesome. ( I know that you already did a video about Phaseplant granular oscillator but I couldn't see / hear what you explain about it now) BTW, thank you so much for all the knowledge you share, you bring so much to us all.
Hey Dash pal, I'm probably being stupid but I don't understand why syncing the grain env doesn't fit the 'project tempo' - it's close but deviating maddeningly. Is this to do with my amp envelopes / duration or something? Thanks in advance for your help!
Just confirming what Dash said. I simply put 0 in the price field and I didn't have to pay a cent or enter any other info than my email to get the download. It's definitely still free.
oh man I 'm not ready for music in the future. I really disliked OTT (still do but ppl work around it now) and now pitchmap is there to put on everything. 😐 I know it came here to stay but it really sounds like overdigitized bitcrushed organs to me. with some OTT and reverb it really becomes what everyone is gonne do the coming 10years and I already hate it. 😅
This sounds great actually, and great presentation man. I alwayslike your genuine and informative approach, no bs like many other youtubers
Thanks!
agreed. but also makes the plugins look really useful.
You always have such wonderful and inspiring demonstrations.
Cheers mate, you always make me want to play with our software just for the fun of it.
thank you for showing and sharing this with us , you are great

What a groovy little plugin. Thanks! 👏🏻
I just love granular synths ❤️

im using granular a lot recently , very useful tool for resampling loops.
You had me at "free plugin" haha thanks Dash
Lol facts 🤣
I like your straight approach
This is very interesting! Thanks for showing - will definitely give this one a try!
Great in-depth video, thanks for sharing!
I love this for my Ambient / Psybient productions in the near future.. Thanks for this!
WAS USEFUL! Showed how to max out this plugin!
Mate this one is crazy! TNX
Great video! I'm going to check out Grainbow for myself.
I like this over the Waldorf Microwave 1 plug-in. Thank you sharing. Great for partnering with Texture Lab.
is the Waldorf granular?
@@DashGlitch Possibly with my Blofeld Keyboard since it can load samples but I haven't tried it yet.
This definitely has some interesting features
This synth is Very Good!
at 830 if u took the supermassive off it would be a great psytrance lead

it could just be a visual thing, because speed is rate, does it sound like there is a difference?
@@DashGlitch yeah, the sound and visual speed of the dot doesnt change like how it did in the video when the rate of the lfo is lowered, not sure if bug for me or if i forgot to do something
And you did assign the lfo yea? Otherwise for the main playback rate play with the geainenvelope on the left
Great recommendation, thank you

Good question, I didn’t check that tbh will have to double check

Bless you! I'm glad it's not my stupidity!
I only got it for the clouds
@DashGlitch any tipps for granular fx, for drums ? PsyTech breaks style?
for drums try syncing grains to tempo for more programmed glitches
Thank you for the video. I would have liked to hear how smooth it could be with maximum number of grains per milliseconds as this is where most granular synth fail. They don't have enough grains per milisecond to truly oscillate.
Phase plant can literally oscillate grains at audio rate ;) this isn’t as clean but a nice complement because of the pitch stuff

How cubse copy abaltone arp randome option ?
I don't understand the question

Cool ❤☮️
What keyboard is that?
Arturia Microlab

oh lol its a cooler master kb550 mk2 :D thanks!

yea I think the Sync is slightly off, I'll post a bug report
PitchMap is really nice! But the price is killing me. Anyway, GRainbow was never under my radar. Cool stuff.Thank You!
7:37 this video is actually getting me high
what a coincidense, I just have Pitchmap!
Have you ever checked Avenger?
Yea it's not for me, the GUI is a bit of a mess and Phase Plant exists
from 14.00 shit gets epic AF but pitchmap is a bit overkill and beyond expensive.
Yea it is I know, there's a cheaper version also by zynaptiq, but yea it's also kinda pricey for it being a sort of one-trick-pony, but it's great
not good in fl studio keep crashing
Latest version of DAW? Updated?
@@DashGlitch yes, only crashes when I use the keys on the plugin, but if I use the piano roll in fl studio then it works
Maybe submit a bug report, those really help smaller developers who don't have beta teams :)
😊😊😊😊
Kewl😎💻🎵🌈
tbh it always sounds the same in all the demos so far. will test it still
It's a granular synth - based on the sample you load in, try it and see how it works for you - it's free
@@DashGlitch ofc the source sound is crucial, maybe this demo wasn’t the best to represent it. will try it :)
try putting in a full song, the drums and everything else all in it make for some very interesting grainsssss
Am I missing something or do you have to hand over your credit card details for this "free" plugin?
Nope, if you enter $0 in the gumroad you shouldn't have to do anything but log in to your gumroad account!
Lemme double check, did you put 0 in the price?
It’s still free dude, put 0 in the price option

Rip are you sure?

I like free stuff. I could do without the dumb rainbows though. Thanks for sharing either way.
