As a Pontiac owner myself, I appreciate the owner of this Tempest keeping it original Pontiac all the way. LS engines are great platforms, no doubt about it, however it takes a dedicated person to go with a different platform, something old school that not a lot of people will try. My Butler Performance 505 Pontiac stroker in my Trans Am is a perfect example of what Pontiac can do and the owner of that beautiful Tempest should check out Butler Performance and see what the magic they could do with his 455. I guarantee he would be happy with the power and reliability of one of their stroker engines and it would give his Tempest a completely different attitude. That Tempest is one bad ass looking car and much respect to the owner for doing it himself and not doing something that everyone else has.
Thank you for the comments! And funny you should mention Butler Performance. I have been in contact with them on some ideas to give my ride some more HP. 👍

Nice to see sosomeone keep the Tempest name alive, and not claim it's a GTO. My first car way back in 74 was a 65 Tempest 2 door coupe 4 speed with a 67 400 GTO motor.
People talk crazy about tempest & LeMans, because it's not an "OFFICIAL" GTO...BUT...its just a trim package, literally the same body style, an I respect the fact he kept it as is
Exactly correct! It's just a trim package and for the Tempest it was the very bottom of the trim line. But the overall body style is the same between. 👍👍

Super cool video! My dad had a brand new Pontiac Custom S. Looked like a GTO, but sleeker without the ram air, unfunctional wing and stripes. The stock 350 was hitting 335 HP and would do 0-60 in 5 seconds. Not bad for back in the day. Unfortunately the car ended in tragedy after an accident bent the frame and broke off the motor-mounts off the engine itself. Hence it was totalled and my dad at the time decided it wasn't worth the expense to fix albeit the technology available in 1978. There went my dream-car, off to the junk yard. I would still have that car today if the decision was made to keep it. Any, back to this video. There comes a time where cruising down the street with a badass looking and sounding car, even though it is slower than others, that gives peeps the opportunity to enjoy the art while passing by. For what worth is it when a car goes by at twice the speed and makes you wonder what its all about when you get a 2 second glimpse? Just my "old school" thoughts. Beautiful car though with a lot of appreciation on the build!
Thanks for the compliments! Your story is very interesting and if we only knew back then what we know today, we would have scooped up so many of these classics and kept them. I'm not gonna lie, I wouldn't mind a little more horsepower, but I'm happy with what I have. I am more happy to own a classic car with cool body lines that I can cruise with my boys and pass the hobby and passion down to them. 🤘🤘
@@johnnyteunissen7707 Yes, it is a great story. In fact, my Dad also had a 65 Pontiac Bonneville 4 door that we used to go to church in every Sunday. I had 4 sisters, so the big car was necessary. Even so, I would be in the back-seat but leaning on the front-seat backs as my Dad would be doing 85-90 on the way to church. LoL. But that is where I caught the need for speed as well a a full respect on the muscle cars of the day. As for the Custom S, I forgot to mention is was a 1969 and only 700 or so were built. It was supposed to be my car at 16 when licensed, but my older sister took it to work about a year earlier and turned left in front of someone.... Hence the damage. It wasn't even a hard it, but was enough to do irreparable damage at the time. Some you win, some you lose, but never pass up an opportunity when you know its a great one! Hang ten, Bro! Love your work!
I have always loved the Bonneville! Such a cool cruiser of a vehicle! Man sorry about that Custom S!! With such a low production run that would have been such a cool ride to have today!! But like you said you win some and lose some, but hopefully at the end you are on the winning side! 👍👍
Love, love, LOVE the 64-67 Poncho's. Absolutely, positively 100 percent cooler because it has real Pontiac power. The stance is fantastic. Just an beautiful example of a BOP A body. Kudos to the owner. I would love to see him swap a manual trans in it instead of the 4L60E, but that's just me. It will still be awesome even with the auto. Can't believe I haven't subbed before now, but I am now. Thanks for another cool review.
The crazy little thing that brought back memories for me was the little slots in the bumper. For those too young to know it was where the bumper jack locked into so you could change a flat tire. If you didnt know what that was then I wont even mention the button on the floor by your left toe.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I once read that John DeLorean, while engineering for Pontiac in the early 60's, took a ho-hum company Tempest he was using as a commuter and had installed a peppy V-8 with a Hearst shifter into it. After he drove it for awhile, the execs found out and borrowed it from him. They had so much fun with it he rarely got to drive it again! The birth of the GTO and the rise of the U.S. muscle car era followed shortly. This video sure brings honor to this owner/builder. Thanks for sharing. Wonder if Mr. DeLorean is smiling from the grave?
Great story that I have not heard before! I do know DeLorean was involved in the birth of the GTO as well as Jim Wangers. And correct the 1964 GTO was the birth of the muscle car craze! 🤘🤘
Respect Johnny! Job very well done. Unique, one of a kind, sleek and sinister... Looking at this car, I'll take it over a Goat hey? When last did you hear of a Pontiac Tempest doing aurocross. Love that the car is built to enjoy, not just show, although it's a show stopper. Thanks for showing us Shawn
What I love about this guy and his build is he seems to not care about all the hoopla about how many horses/how much HP it has. It still has the drum brakes on the rear...that's awesome.. He doesn't care about the LS craze and just wanted a simple car he can drive and work on. That's the most rewarding part in my book.
@@johnnyteunissen7707 Yessir!! You have an awesome car. Helps give us regular guys hope who can't build a $500k Ridler car. To be honest, I don't want a Ridler car. If William Shakespeare could be asked for his input on this Tempest, I,m sure the Bard would heartily approve. "Yea verily! 'tis the hour in which to consume "racing fuel"!!!

@@AutotopiaLA I definitely like this Pontiac better than almost all Pontiacs because it looks like a Dodge charger from the side and two likes from my two channels
Built not bought! 100% gangster cool. Love the black on black
Billygoat gruff - that’s the word I was looking for - gangster!

AutotopiaLA - ‘morning!
Man what a beautiful side profile this car has!
Yeah, beautiful car and cool story on it
Thanks that what I love about the Pontiac body lines!👍👍
Sick ride Johnny! Shawn keep banging out the sick content. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Shawn is a great guy with a great channel!🤘🤘
Beautiful. Love the tempest and glad its pontiac
Nice to see sosomeone keep the Tempest name alive, and not claim it's a GTO. My first car way back in 74 was a 65 Tempest 2 door coupe 4 speed with a 67 400 GTO motor.
That's awesome! It was always my intent to keep it a Tempest. 👍
@@johnnyteunissen7707 finally, someone with common sense, that agrees, it isn't hard to switch the tail lights, as well as the emblems IF you WANTED too
As well as swapping the bench seats for your obvious bucket seats, an boom, no one would ever really notice UNLESS you said somethin, OR they read the title to the car
New Sub here... been following Johnny on Instagram. Best Tempest Ever! Nice video about the history, and #GarageBuilt, which I have done myself. Not easy. Great to see the commitment from Johnny to "do it himself". Awesome video coverage and interview too, which is why I'm now subscribed. Keep it up!
Thanks man appreciate that! Lots and lots of other cool videos here on @AutotopiaLA !!🤘🤘
Johnny - Totally agree with that!
That's my boy! Great video guys, and one bad ass car!
Thanks brother! And thanks for getting me started way back then! 👍
Another cool show another cool car owner thanks buddy keep them coming.
Lots more coming from us! Such a cool ride and Johnny is awesome!
@@AutotopiaLA I agree 100%. Beautiful car great guy. You keep putting out these videos I'll keep watching
Am speechless.. That Muscle Car is amazing Shawn, you have the best JOB. Stay SAFE
Thank you appreciate it! 👍👍
Beautiful build. Congrats.
Thanks appreciate it!!🤘🤘
Super cool video!
Cool comment here 👊
Thanks for the compliments!
At one point I had thought about putting a rock crusher in it. May do the manual trans someday, but for now I have a brand new 4L60E sitting there.👍
Johnny - rock crusher! 🤣🤣🤣 - ‘haven’t heard that for while! I guess for an IT guy, that the goto(!) ripost to the mention of slush box...?!
Soo awesome to see a old school Pontiac engine in it. Sick of seeing LS swaps.
LS swaps are great but this is refreshing to see it all Pontiac
That was always the plan to keep it Poncho powered!👍
The crazy little thing that brought back memories for me was the little slots in the bumper. For those too young to know it was where the bumper jack locked into so you could change a flat tire. If you didnt know what that was then I wont even mention the button on the floor by your left toe.
I'm old enough to remember both! I remember helping my dad jack up the car when we lived in Boston to put on snow tires each winter season!👍
Great that its kept all Pontiac!....and man...does that thing look good cruising down the street!
Thank you!!👍👍
I absolutely love this video he gives us Pontiac fans Pontiac hope thanks and good job!
I'm a die hard Pontiac guy!!👊👊
One badass Tempest I can dig it.
Very cool Tempest! Absolute credit to Johnny. Awesome job.
Another great video. Thanks Shawn 👍
He did a great job on this one...such a cool guy and ride!
Thank you!!👍👍
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I once read that John DeLorean, while engineering for Pontiac in the early 60's, took a ho-hum company Tempest he was using as a commuter and had installed a peppy V-8 with a Hearst shifter into it.
The most amazing thing is that bench seat 😂😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️and that rumbling is so beautiful dude
Thank you!👍
Love the car! My favorite Pontiac!
Such a good one and what a cool owner/builder
That's a badass beautiful car owned by a real nice genuine guy. 👍🙂🇬🇧🇺🇲🇬🇧🇺🇲

Dude this car has been my screen saver fo years
Wow! That's pretty awesome!!🤘🤘
May be the best car I’ve seen on here
Thank you for that!👍
klompsauce - I’d go with that...! 👍
Yep, always knew I wanted to have something nice, but that I could enjoy at the same time!👍
Love to see the old school engine build 🤘🏻
Thank you!!👍
What I love about this guy and his build is he seems to not care about all the hoopla about how many horses/how much HP it has. It still has the drum brakes on the rear...that's awesome.. He doesn't care about the LS craze and just wanted a simple car he can drive and work on. That's the most rewarding part in my book.
Thank for that! Definitely wanted something I could work on and have fun with! 👍👍
@@johnnyteunissen7707 Yessir!! You have an awesome car. Helps give us regular guys hope who can't build a $500k Ridler car. To be honest, I don't want a Ridler car. Yes, they're beautiful and all, but I'd take your "daily driver" any day over a trailer queen that I cannot drive. You've built yourself one sick ride. Congrats!!
@@2quedogg Completely agree! I love looking at the high end cars just to see what's possible when money is not a problem! But yeah for me, a working guy with a family and bills to pay, it's not that easy. Gotta save and prioritize what I want to do to the car!🤘
This is the coolest looking car I've ever seen
Wow thank you!!👍👍
Love it!! My brother is sitting on a 67 tempest all original with the 326 and 2 sp power glide.
Yep, mine came with the 326 when I first bought it!👍👍
If William Shakespeare could be asked for his input on this Tempest, I,m sure the Bard would heartily approve. "Yea verily! 'tis the hour in which to consume "racing fuel"!!!
To be or not to be. That is the question! 🤘
Johnny - All the world’s a stage...🚦
That is one fine Poncho. Makes me regret trading my '64 for a Corvette.
I love this car!
Thank you!! 👍👍
Incredible! Good job sticking with Pontiac power plant
Thank you! That was always the plan!👍
Beautiful car! I can imagine Batman driving this to get milk from the grocery store.
😂 awesome!!
Mick Bones - Dang! You nailed it!! So it wasn’t the movies it reminded me of - it was TV!!!
Those wheels/tires make it look like Mike Tyson prancin' around in pink fuzzy slippers.
Mike Tyson one of my favorite heavyweight fighters! Too bad he could have achieved so much more!👍
Beautiful vehicle!
Sure is and such a great story behind it
Nice - look - stance - sound
best looking GTO ive seen since Vin diesels XXX
Go to show you don't need a tire roster to fit in , badass is badass. Much respect.
Thank you!!👊👊
What a nice change, loved how different it is from the usual. Too many reviews are all about the power for bar room discussions, not enough of these real relaxed driver cars around.
I hear ya. We’re always searching for cars that make us say “gotta shoot that one!”

LOVE THE ORIGINA PONCHO ENGINE in there !!! A Pontiac should be Pontiac powered ! So expensive to make power out of Pontiac engines therefore a lot of people go to Chevy engines which is cool, but more cool to see a Pontiac powered Pontiac Hahahaha
Yep, the plan all along was to keep it Pontiac powered! 💪
Johnny Teunissen that car is immaculate!! Love it .. I’m a huge Ls fan but it is definitely cool to see a different type of engine lol
@@johnnyteunissen7707 Any chance you would tell me the tire size you have there? I am almost done with my first muscle car which is a 66 Tempest... Was supposed to be just a decent build but ended up frame off with every bearing bolt and bushing replaced... Rims and tires and I will be done by spring.. Very awesome to see your car, gets me more excited to finish mine..
I'm kind of regretting leaving the slots for the exterior side trim after seeing yours.. Not to mention the 50 hours I have spent trying to track them down.. Got front fender chrome and one single door trim so far and its making me nervous... \\ Nice car and I wanna steal your tire selection :) if you dont mind
