Here are 5 types of bad shred guitarists - and some ideas on how you could fix these habits! Are any of these relatable for you? Which one did I miss? Let me know in the comments!
Great video. I misunderstood the format the first time so I had to rewatch your epic shreds. Your videos are so amazing. You have helped me have where I'm at as a guitarist.
How about the guy who doesn’t shred but quickly tells you about his buddy/teacher that can “really play that stuff right.” Always the unseen buddy or teacher who is the best ever.
Sounds great dude. I've had these issues in the past. I got into a bad habit of picking fast without properly developing my technique. I've been focusing on phrasing with my improvisation and working on my picking with the metronome in the mean time 🤘
Great to hear that you are focusing on phrasing & timing, two very important topics that are often ignored - I'm sure you are on a great way by doing that!
Well, I can't shred in more than... One... String. So, my top shreding is: almost random notes with bad picking and hammer-ons in each string (like 5-7-8 in 4 strings, ending in a vibratto on 8 fret of the 5th string of the phrase). My solos are majoritary slow, with one tapping section and a fast picking part too.
Omg I really really don't hear anything bad with the "bad synchronization" one. And hand synchronization is a big part of my practice routine, that's depressing...
You sound good even when you try to play wrong. You're just TOO good, man,if you want to display a bad shred guitarist i'll be glad to send you a more realistic video of myself playing 🤣🤣
if i could play as fast as that, then I would love to be called a one big happy bad shredder!!!,,, anyway, love your free lessons man, they are a blessing, keep it up ,tnx
Than more I watch the lessons of decent musicians, that more I realize how bad I am at playing musical instruments( electric guitar and bass). At the same time, I communicate with people for whom my knowledge of music theory and playing musical instruments is something unattainable... A strange feeling, however
NUMBER 2 - i see so many shredders on youtube that only just play as fast as possible going up and down scales. While this move sounds cool - it is only meant to be used sometimes. if you are wanking away 32nd notes picked up and down the scale - that is not a solo kids, that is a scale run. use some feeling!
Technical proficiency, good song writing skills, playing with feeling, and precise execution are four very different things, all of which are necessary for best results.
Haha beim 5ten sehe ich mich selber, mach ich gerne so. Aber was genau meinst du mit "No Hand Synchronization", ist da gemeint wenn man ich die Töne unterschiedlich oft anschlage ? MFG
Hey, thanks for leaving a comment! I found my pick of choice with the Jazz III size, those give me the most control with that playing style. As for the thickness I still love to experiment a lot, thin picks give you a more 'scratchy' and extreme sound (for distorted parts) whenever you need it while thicker picks also sound great with clean sections or acoustic guitar! Right now I work with the Dunlop Max-Grip Nylon Jazz III Stiffo picks :) Hope that helps!
Just slowdown the playback speed. I played van halen eruption on vinyl on a 16-33-45-78 turntable at 16 rpm (half speed, with one octave down pitch shift) to figure it out. This would have been about 1979 or so.
Just the fact that, all the absolute best guitarists of all time are kinda bad shredders, as perfect shred is unbearable listening to (especially for those who do not play themselves) - and this comes from a professional guitarist, songwriter and producer with 40 years of experience 2-12 hours a day of playing/practice routine! Just a sad fact :/ However, all that work and practice is essential for making it in the business, even playing just simple stuff. Would you hire Michael Lee Firkins, or that guy from Cutting Crew?? ;P
Yet there are many MANY famous guitar players who do alot of the same stuff. The video should be "my opinion" . Remember that there are plenty of " shredders" on youtube yet no one's heard of them becuase fast for the sake of fast gets old and stale real quick. Some of your stuff is good, other stuff just sounds like a computer starting up and the windows jingle at the end. Like I always say peopleu like Malcolm young are way more well known than MAB and Michael is probably the "better" player overall. So instead of alot of flashy stuff try doing stuff that can be used rhythmically and teaches instead of "here's a fast sweep that stales out becuase everyone used the same shape"
You can pick faster with a closed fit grip and resting the heel of your palm behind the saddles. A closed fist is smaller, and can be flipped back and forth with wrist action much faster than an open hand. Put your fist up in the air and wiggle it around fast. now open your hand and do it. see what I mean? less inertia - physics is our friend. You'll pick up a few BPM that way.

I'm guilty of number 5.
I started guitar playing year of 2000 but I can't build my speed, and aroegggio, sweep picking.
Plz help me sir
How do I get these courses ? Help me to find better course for me to improve my lessons.

I just realized i have along way ahead to finally become a bad shredder.

Yes.
Except for some sour notes, even your "bad" soloing sounds pretty damn good.
Must be hard to play "wrong" when you are trained to execute motions very well :D
I am Agree 😂
Music of Painting I am Bishal
I AM GROOT
Not as hard as you think. Go a little too fast and don't really pay attention to what you're doing - usually gets it done.

The worst shred you described is the best version of mine 😂😅
Still nice! xD
Lol I wish to be as good as his bad soloing haha
Yes, I would like to plays as his bad

0:53 - 1:02 man im in love. that's so beautiful.
Thank you very much, really makes a difference if you put your heart into a guitar solo :)
@@Bernthguitar yes, it does. can't make any song without heart in that.
Very impressive. I've been playing for 41 years. Pay attention to this guy, he knows a few things. Good stuff. Wish I could give it two thumbs up.

The “bad synchronization” is how I write solos lol. Our brains is just more evolved lol trust

Nice video it helped me find things I need to work on
Love your stuff broheim
I like that you had solutions for each type.
You make even the bad examples sound great..lol BTW..learned to play with the torn bicep.
So this is bad playing?! Oh god I have a Long ways to go till when I can say I’m a bad guitarist and not a terrible guitarist 😂🤦♂️
Not necessarily bad just stale. Without variety and good phrasing it just sounds like exercises, not music

Hast du da vlt ein paar Tipps wie man das am besten üben kann ?
This video, as entertaining as it is, really shows a wealth of information about habits to avoid.
2 LOL was my FAv that was me years ago, then i sat down and learned some theory
Very nice
Hi Bernth, can you explain what kind of picks and Pick thickness you mainly use to get such articulated shred control ? Keep going !

Impressive. Just asking. Can you play all of that slowly? Specially the notes employing alternative picking?
Just slowdown the playback speed. I played van halen eruption on vinyl on a 16-33-45-78 turntable at 16 rpm (half speed, with one octave down pitch shift) to figure it out. This would have been about 1979 or so.

I'm not even good enough yet to say that I feel personally attacked here
During this video I slowly realized that I’m a poor form voltron of all these
why is it so hard for me to do it like you
III. Bad vibrato and string bending
Marty Friedman joins the chat.
Marty Friedman: SAY WHAT?!?!
Im the one who tries to play some solo but sounds like scale..
I think you try to do bad shred to show people some examples, but you can t xD
Man ,no way ! You are an AMAZING GUITAR PLAYER
Damn. I'm very guilty of "raking" 😄
Bad synchronization example seems right and advance to me
The first: SWEEPMAAAAAN
That is so cool. I really can't label them as bad.
Holy fuck! Somebody slipped me the keys to the lamborghini after watching this!

Ibanez SHRG1Z HR Giger
Damn, I want to be a bad shred guitarist unu
But even the BAD versions of yourself still shred! 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
The closed picking hand is so strange to me. I rest 3 fingers on the guitar like mab

OK OK, I will practise more.
This guy is cool dude
6-th - finishing solo at a random moment
Your "bad" playing, is still better than most good playing imho.
I wish I was that bad
I love how his bad solos are better than most metal "lead" guitarists lmao
Alright so what happens if I'm all 5 combined? Will it be like having the Infinity Stones except every time I play guitar I lose half my audience?
I feel so f@$%ing attacked 🤬🤬😥😥
Even his bad solos are better then most of my best
Well I can’t even do the first one so guess I’m not even a bad shredder?
I literally make ALL of those mistakes AND they sound worse than he shows them.
I am that one sweep all the way
Almost no one I hear can shred with emotions, seriously if youre too busy on many notes, how can u emphasize an emotion.
I am number 5
When Bad sounds awesome...
