I shot/edited this video & had the pleasure of making the artwork Charles’ newest album. The best thing about Charles is he is as genuine as his songwriting suggests. A true gentleman and a genuine human being. We NEED more people in the music industry like Charles. I’m so glad he’s getting the attention he so rightly deserves!!!
This song is true story about his grandparents which makes it even better. Definitely recommend anything else by him, especially Cranes of Potter off his new album.
That’s awesome! Sorry For The Wait was the first one I heard and it hit so hard. Both my guy and I are involved in mining in Canada. The Last Bite and Hardwood Floors were next, but I just listen to everything now. He’s unreal.
I discovered this guy a couple months ago. I’ve listened to him almost nonstop since, and introduced my friends to his music. He’s a masterful singer/songwriter/musician. I love his music.
I've been listening to him since he was in the band Vandalia way back in like 2014. I'm from West Virginia and my hometown is like 25 minutes from Seneca Creek. My mom is from Onego, WV the same place as Wesley's grandfather RC Phares who he is singing about in the song. He also mentions the 1985 flood which was the worst one we ever had. The line "In 85 the creek did rise but it only took the other side" literally hits home. My parents lived right by the South Branch of the Potomac River. I was only a couple months old when it happened and we lost our home to it. This is real music and true storytelling at it's finest.
Godwin is one of my favorite artists. His new album is fabulous, most especially, in my humble opinion, Jesse as well as Needle Fall Down. At any rate, have you heard Cole Chaney yet? He’s an absolutely fabulous young story teller from Kentucky. Coal- shooter is a great one to break down.
Get to hear Cole play Thursday with Logan Halstead. Then get to hear the two of them again Dec 18 with Charles Wesley Godwin and Drayton Farley. Great way to end what has been an incredible year of live music.
Although Cole has a very very similar sound to Tyler Childers in my opinion. Charles Wesley Godwin has more of his own sound in my opinion. Both are very good I just prefer the latter right now...
YES!! I’ve asked for this for ages!! I know this dude! He’s great! The songs the true love story of his grandparents who lived in Onego WV. The ‘85 flood was a major disaster in that part of the state. My grandparents who lived 10 miles from there, lost their house at the time.
Was turned onto Charles Wesley Godwin by Grady Smith's RUclips channel last year and have loved his stuff ever since. His new record is fantastic if you get the chance to check it out!
Charles Wesley is a fantastic artist and an amazing story teller. You should also take a listen to “Sorry for the Wait”. I had the pleasure of working for his father in WV who introduced me to his music a few years ago. The stories Charles Wesley takes from life in Appalachia are moving and his ability to tell those stories is absolutely incredible.
THANK YOU!!!! I have been waiting on this one for a while! Can't think of a better start to my day than a Palmisano Godwin review, and hot cup of coffee of course.
I went to state wide science fair from Elkins, WV Jr. High with my project on the 1985 WV flood. I remember that flood very well as a young lad. This is definitely a true story and love this guy! Maybe biased as I named my daughter Seneca and love my State. For those that hear this song and want to witness a piece of paradise, visit the Seneca Creek area....Cheers
I got to meet and photograph Charles in Luckenbach, TX a couple of years ago. Just him and his guitar was it and he blew my mind! This man doesn’t need a band at all but unfortunately uses one for his records. He’s got a hell of a voice and great writing and is a hell of a nice guy as well. I hope he sees a ton of success as it’s well deserved!
Man, I love this channel. You showed me so many great songs and artist I never heard of. In Germany country is so so so unpopular - yes, it is a shame - and I am so glad for this channel because it inspires my daily playlist a lot. Thx
Yes! I am glad he is finally getting some of the attention he deserves. Personally I think some of his best guitar playing is on Sorry for the Wait, but every song of his amazing
Yeah this guy is great man!! Thanks for the discovery. Two years and only 61k views??? The real music is out there and a shame these artists aren't promoted out front ahead of who actually is.
Late to the party here, but you should check out "Sorry for the Wait", also by Charles. The storytelling is awesome on that one as well. Also just wanted to say that the little solo at 5 minutes was awesome, sounded great and fit in so well.
That one person here, singing perfectly for the song and playing simple yet poised chords on an understated acoustic guitar, can choke me up with emotion, is testament to Charles’s talent for story writing, singing and playing. Sorry for the run on sentence. Thanks. I will be listening to more.
I’m so happy you saw this, I suggested it some months ago just through RUclips comments but hes really grown with his new album. One of my favorite singer/songwriters by far
My guy is from a town that has a mine in Newfoundland, Canada, and I’m from Oil country in Alberta Canada. The first song I heard from CWG was Sorry For The Wait. I couldn’t stop listening to it and I couldn’t stop tearing up every time. Then the Last Bite. Then Hardwood Floors. This man is so gifted. To me he also has a Colter Wall vibe, but also vocally White Buffalo, and Knopfler as far as his story telling power. Those are all staples for me and Knopfler is my all time favourite. Period. I can’t compliment CWG any more than I have. I’m obsessed.
I had the pleasure of meeting him last week when he opened for Zach Bryan. He is seriously has such pure soul that is filled with kindness. Story telling songs are my type of jam, too. His song Sorry For The Wait cuts me to the core.
One of my favorite artists for a long while, and just now saw this video - dont know how I missed it! Last Bite and Coal Country are two excellent songs as well. The man is a lyricist; really enjoy listening to the story.
Good thing I don't have Mr. Godwins guitar(I do love that thing)cuz it would have been wasted on Me. & Mike, great courtship story, I wasn't that precocious w/signif-other.
Michael, I'm with you on great lyrics that tell a story. My wife and I are in the winter of our life together, and these lyrics ring true, especially taking trips just for the hell of it. Charles Wesley and Michael, keep doing what you're doing. GT
Before I saw him live, I had only heard his name. We took a road trip to Nashville to see Ward Davis at the Ryman. CWG and his band opened. It's not very often I am completely blown away by a band whose songs I don't know, but that was what happened that night. Charles Wesley Godwin opening was a gift from Ward Davis to his fans. Incredible show!
I am such a big Charles Westly Godwin fan I have been listening to his stuff almost as long as it has been available and his songs Hardwood Floors and Strawberry Queen are some of my absolute favorites on top of Seneca Creek. I am so happy you discovered him
Thank you Nelson, ALL y’all. I’m being exposed to music and wonderful people that I never would have heard b4, and learning to boot. PeacePlz. Love youZ…
This is great. I've never heard of Charles until this I kept listening to the lyrics and I recognized Seneca creek and of course there could be others then the Gandy then the flood in 85. Charles lives in morgantown. From my area of wv. Awesome song!
I'm from WV Born and raised. He is a WV native. This song is about his grandfather and grandma. And the flood 85 was devastating to many WV residents. Especially those around Seneca.
Thank you for the introduction to Mr. Godwin! A haunting melody and vivid imagery--it's truly moving. It reminded me somewhat of Billy Bragg and Wilco when they teamed up for Mermaid Avenue, Vol. 1, putting music to Woody Guthrie's unfinished songs (especially the track "Ingrid Bergman").
Came across CWG by chance on spotify in 2019. Saw him live a few weeks later in Buckhannon, WV. Been hooked since. Seneca was such a great album, i didnt know how he could possibly top it. But i guess How the Mighty Fall is how he tops it. Incredible album!
Wow! I’m here checking out CWG because he is headlining for another artist that I’m a fan of Justin Wells. Amazing what we can find if we open our eyes.
He's from near you. Morgantown wv, his song coal country gives me chills. Probably because I'm from wv and know how accurate the "details" are as you like then.
Hi Michael absolutely awesome what you do. Thanks so much for this stuff. And by the way in all your videos I can tell you are the most humble and sensitive man out there. Always gives me goosebumps too the exact time when you get emotional. That really is encouraging to see that someone of your talent and incredible knowledge appreciates the little details in those tunes. Please keep on making these videos, always great to learn from and really heartwarming. Thanks so much
Highly recommend his new cover of Chris Knight's classic The Jealous Kind from The Church sessions. It's an amazing story-song elevates an already great song to a new height.
Dang. That hit hard. What a song. What a man. Also, you should check out Keep The Wolves Away by Uncle Lucius if you haven't heard it. Great song and story.
Love this review! I would love to see you review his songs Sorry for the Wait or Cranes of Potter. Especially Cranes of Potter cuz it is such an interesting story
That was great!! Thank you! Very beautiful. I agree he has a gorgeous guitar. I'd like to request Luca Stricagnoli 's version of Sweet Child of Mine. Or many others on Candyrat Records like Calum Graham or Tobias Rauscher

Great work
Lovely lighting
Thank you its beautiful
LOVE THIS DUDE BEEN LISTENING TO HIM FOR AWHILEEEEEEE
This song is true story about his grandparents which makes it even better. Definitely recommend anything else by him, especially Cranes of Potter off his new album.
I listen to that song first on your recommendation - can't wait to hear the rest - so good:)
Yep RC Phares was his grandfather
Cranes of Potter is amazing!!!!
That’s awesome! Sorry For The Wait was the first one I heard and it hit so hard. Both my guy and I are involved in mining in Canada. The Last Bite and Hardwood Floors were next, but I just listen to everything now. He’s unreal.

A little lower in the state than yall but howdy neighbor

Cole Chaney is phenomenal
Get to hear Cole play Thursday with Logan Halstead. Then get to hear the two of them again Dec 18 with Charles Wesley Godwin and Drayton Farley. Great way to end what has been an incredible year of live music.
Ill Will Creek is a personal favorite
Although Cole has a very very similar sound to Tyler Childers in my opinion. Charles Wesley Godwin has more of his own sound in my opinion. Both are very good I just prefer the latter right now...
Charles Wesley is one of the greatest hymn writers of all time. This man is aptly named
This channel has sent me down so many music rabbit holes. Forever grateful.
Yeah brother!
this guy accomplishes in a just over 5 minute song what most movies don't accomplish in 2 hours - thank you MP:)
YES!! I’ve asked for this for ages!! I know this dude! He’s great! The songs the true love story of his grandparents who lived in Onego WV. The ‘85 flood was a major disaster in that part of the state. My grandparents who lived 10 miles from there, lost their house at the time.
You oughta check out his song Cranes of Potter. Haunting
Yes! Amazing story with more technical guitar stuff going on. Favorite off his new album
Plus it’s a murder ballad. We know you love those
Was turned onto Charles Wesley Godwin by Grady Smith's RUclips channel last year and have loved his stuff ever since. His new record is fantastic if you get the chance to check it out!
That little solo you tossed in at around 5:15 was rad. Love these breakdowns. Charles Wesley Godwin is one of my favorite country artists.
Yeah that little piece from Micheal seemed to really fit in there and sound great
Charles Wesley is a fantastic artist and an amazing story teller. You should also take a listen to “Sorry for the Wait”. I had the pleasure of working for his father in WV who introduced me to his music a few years ago. The stories Charles Wesley takes from life in Appalachia are moving and his ability to tell those stories is absolutely incredible.
I wish I could listen to this song for the first time again. Absolute magic.
I love that the whole song is just about him, Ruth, and the creek. Just a passing mention of the family, but it's all about them.
Yeah man.
THANK YOU!!!! I have been waiting on this one for a while! Can't think of a better start to my day than a Palmisano Godwin review, and hot cup of coffee of course.
Loved it! Thanks!
Tears are pouring

How he makes it all rhyme… 😯
How many times can I “like” this?? Damn. Glad you did this one… he’s one of my favorites of late.
hell yeah!
Man, I love this channel. You showed me so many great songs and artist I never heard of. In Germany country is so so so unpopular - yes, it is a shame - and I am so glad for this channel because it inspires my daily playlist a lot. Thx
Hauntingly beautiful voice, this guy is super talented
He recently just released his second album “how the mighty fall” it’s also stunning.
I am so thankful for your channel! I have been turned on to so many great musicians through it. Thanks for what you are doing!
So glad you finally got to this one. "Take my hand, Ruth my dear" will level a building
I’ve been listening to him for years now. Glad to see him getting acknowledgement.
This is true talent! I've been listening to him several months ago now and I'm glad you featured him!
I learned about Godwin a while back listening to colter wall and have been listening to him since
Can’t wait to see this guy in DC January 21st!
Late to the party here, but you should check out "Sorry for the Wait", also by Charles. The storytelling is awesome on that one as well.

Absolutely beautiful!
Love this love song. It always makes me tear up.
I learned about him when I saw him open for Zach Bryan. I’ve been a huge fan ever since!
Proud to be a WV native and listen to this man still. Loved him in union sound treaty
Hardwood floors is a favorite of mine by him. I've been listening for a few years. So glad he's gaining traction he deserves it.
I’m so happy you saw this, I suggested it some months ago just through RUclips comments but hes really grown with his new album. One of my favorite singer/songwriters by far

I love all of his work. I do have a personal favorite in West of Lonesome…gives me chills no matter how many times I hear it.
He plays a great show too! I saw him open for Zach Bryan I didn’t know he was opening for him and was stoked when he came out! Hell of a show to see.

I've learned about his music in the past year or so. I'm always happy to see you covering such worthy artists! Thanks for doing what you do, Michael!

A must see live. Even better.
#wildandwonderful #almostheaven

Yes! I'm so glad you got to this dude! He's amazing!
He’s even better live. Had the privilege to see him twice. Had a beer with him during his opener. My favorite singer hands down.
Before I saw him live, I had only heard his name.

This man is finally getting his due attention and praise
Tasty little solo you threw in there at the 5:10-5:30 time frame…
I actually love when you play along
It very much gave me the vibes of solo Knopfler work, especially with Michael coming in with his slightly distorted fills. Just great.
Saw him in concert opening for Zach Bryan. Definitely one of my new favorites!
Had the pleasure of seeing him in concert with Zach Bryan. Fabulous show. Introduced me to CWGs music.
Beautiful song and an amazing response to it. Thanks for bringing forth another wonderful artist.
His whole album is great and flows well. I love seeing you give WV artists the love you do.
This is great. I've never heard of Charles until this I kept listening to the lyrics and I recognized Seneca creek and of course there could be others then the Gandy then the flood in 85. Charles lives in morgantown. From my area of wv. Awesome song!
Charles is incredible. Jesse from his new record is my favorite.
saw him in concert with zach bryan, absolutely phenomenal
Saw him open for Zach Bryan and he blew my mind
I'm from WV Born and raised. He is a WV native. This song is about his grandfather and grandma. And the flood 85 was devastating to many WV residents. Especially those around Seneca.
This one got me. What an amazing song, thank you for sharing!
Thank you, Cody!!!
His new album is absolutely amazing.
So I watched him in concert and he told the story, that’s his grandfather and it’s a real story. Dude is unbelievable

I suggested him to you in a live one night. He is incredible
Going to his album release party in Morgantown this coming weekend!
Was there too, what a night
We need this song with a Michael ft because that sounded so good when u were playing to 😂🔥
Came across CWG by chance on spotify in 2019. Saw him live a few weeks later in Buckhannon, WV. Been hooked since. Seneca was such a great album, i didnt know how he could possibly top it. But i guess How the Mighty Fall is how he tops it. Incredible album!
well that made me cry!
All of CWGs songs are awesome. Gotta do Sorry for the wait or any of them off his new album.
Reminds me of Gordon Lightfoot. Loved it
He does a KILLER version of ‘Sundown’!
I heard Lightfoot, too.
Hi Michael absolutely awesome what you do. Thanks so much for this stuff. And by the way in all your videos I can tell you are the most humble and sensitive man out there. Hardwood floors by him is also great!
Iv had the opportunity to meet CWG after a Zach Bryan show and am thankful that I got his signature along with BJ Bruhan he is a great performer
Damn, that hits right where he was aiming.
Highly recommend his new cover of Chris Knight's classic The Jealous Kind from The Church sessions. It's an amazing story-song elevates an already great song to a new height.
I don't know if you take suggestions here or not but "doc watson-sittin on top of the world" is one I've never been able to figure out
Michael, this was a great video, as usual. It would so cool if you did an episode about the RKL song Scab on My Brain! Hope you get this message.
In 1985 there was a flood that effected most of wv, I was only 3 but that's my first actual memory, I'd say this is about his grandparents
How is this video not bigger yet? Should be!
Finally some love for CWG!
Beautiful song, singer, player. Sigh.🌸
If you like this, and Colter Wall and all these story telling Country Music artists, listen to The Wilder Blue - Dixie Darlin'.
